  1. We are 8-2-1 in our last 11 games. If we go 8-2-1 in our next 11 games then we should be good to go for the playoffs. Demko is 8-1 in his last 9 starts. Forget what happened in February. We just need to replicate what we’ve done in March and do it again in April. What people need to understand is it is very hard to score on Demko right now. We got 4 goals tonight which should have been enough to beat Montreal but Demko was not in net. I don’t see us losing too many games with Demko if we can score 4 goals in a game. In Demko’s last 8 wins he’s never allowed more than 2 goals in a game. So even 3 goals should get us a victory. Let’s hope Petey and Beagle get back quickly. Without them we don’t have a chance really. We need Petey to get those 3 goals per game and we need Beagle to anchor that 4th line and our PK.
  2. Probably has to do with Luongo and what he’s doing behind the scenes really...
  3. Gaudette isn’t a 4th liner or a centre so he’d have to get on that 3rd line which means taking out Vesey or Virtanen. At this point I’d take Virtanen and Vesey over Gaudette. I’d also take Vesey over Roussel. Hawryluk has played his way into the lineup and provides more on the 4th line than MacEwen. We need to give Vesey a few games as I think he has the potential to be a good 3rd line player for us. With everyone healthy we actually have good depth now. We can fill a 5th line with Roussel, Gaudette and MacEwen. This puts Eriksson permanently on the taxi squad where he belongs. You need depth to make the playoffs and do something once you get there. With Juolevi we also have a guy who can step in right away on D as well.
  4. When Petey comes back I would put Miller back on the wing with Petey. Let Miller take the draws. When Beagle comes back we can move Sutter to play with Vesey and Virtanen. Put the Lotto Line back together and Horvat with Pearson and Hoglander. When everyone is back from injury I think our best lineup is the following: Miller Pettersson Boeser Pearson Horvat Hoglander Vesey Sutter Virtanen Motte Beagle Hawryluk
  5. The good news is Holtby got his game in and it wasn’t a total disaster as we got one point. Now we can ride Demko again for the next 4 games until the next back to back against Winnipeg.
  6. Too bad our franchise goalie wasn’t playing tonight, the score would not be 4-4...
  7. Vesey Miller Virtanen I like it. Does Toronto have any more leftovers that we can use?
  8. I think I'd go with Demko tomorrow. Ride the hot hand. He did not look burnt out tonight at all. 3 more games and he gets a week off. Ride him until we are firmly in a playoff spot. Holtby will have his turn. If Holtby sh*ts the bed tomorrow we could ruin weeks of momentum and fall 3 points back of Montreal. Tomorrow's game should be treated like a playoff game. You don't take your starter out in the playoffs and play your backup.
  9. I'm not sure how it's possible to build a Stanley Cup contender when 4 players take up half of your salary cap. You end up with too many scrubs in your bottom 6 and 2nd and 3rd pairing on D. Looking at their roster they have 8 players who are UFA this summer including their #1 goalie and they only have $14 million in cap space. They will have to sign several players to league minimum contracts in order to stay under the cap. Are they going to look for more 37 year old players willing to come to Toronto for one last shot at the Cup on a hometown discount? Also, their pipeline looks quite dry. I don't see much potential from the guys in their farm system and other than their top end first round picks they haven't really drafted any studs after the first round in the last several years. They've only drafted 4 players after the first round in the last 10 years that have played over 100 NHL games and none of those players are considered core players and only one is still with the team. Benning has drafted a franchise goalie in the 2nd round and he's drafted all of his core players outside of the top 4 picks. He may not have had the greatest success with trades and free agency but at the end of the day the draft is where you will build the nucleus of your team. And as far as the free agents are concerned, some of those moves came with the blessing of Aquilini who wanted to retool on the fly while the Sedins were still around. I doubt we sign Eriksson to a $36 million dollar contract if Aquilini doesn't give the go ahead to take one last shot at a Cup with the Sedins having 2 years left on their contracts. Same with Sutter. Roussel and Beagle were signed to fill holes and we had to overpay in order to get them. At the time Roussel was still playing well and quite frankly I don't have a problem with Beagle's contract. He's underrated in this market. You can tell when he's not around, you have to shuffle the PK unit and Horvat has to play bigger minutes in a shutdown role and on the PK which is not ideal. Let's see what happens to the Leafs over the next month. My hunch is that the Canucks will be alot closer to them in the standings than people think.
  10. Dubas would need Secret Service protection if the Laffs finished in 5th place.
  11. Montreal just fired their coach. Without Price they are an average team. It’s not like Toffoli jumped ship and went to a contender.
