  1. Exactly. He gave him a maximum dollar contract without even buying any UFA years. Well I think he bought one. Just crazy. For almost $12 million he should have signed Matthews to an 8 year deal. Even Edmonton was able to do that with McDavid so they don’t have to worry for another 3 years. Now Matthews has them by the balls. They either pay him the highest contract in NHL history or he laughs and walks to free agency. And unless they trade him within the next 30 days Toronto will lose him for nothing. Thanks Dubas.
  2. That’s not what you said. This is what you said: Losing 4 first round picks, Demko and Miller for the pokeball left on the table after the protagonist and their rival pick their starters, and some depth pieces is a terrible idea. You said we are giving up four first round picks PLUS Demko PLUS Miller. You know that’s not true. We traded Miller and Demko in my scenario to get those additional two 1st round picks. So the trade is four 1st round picks plus scraps for Carlsson, Peeke and Kuraly. Carlsson alone is worth three 1st round picks. Especially if none of them are in the top 10. You know this. He is a 1st overall pick in any other draft. Peeke is easily worth another first plus the scraps. And Kuraly is a bonus 3C. It would be a great trade for Vancouver to acquire another core player that could be as good as Petey. None of those first round picks that we are trading will ever be close to a Leo Carlsson. He has the potential to be Petey 2.0.
  3. You are faulting Dubas for things well outside his control. What exactly does this even mean? Dubas didn’t have control over himself when he pissed away the future of the Toronto franchise? a GM's primary job is to get wins in the regular season. Is this statement some type of a joke? So a GM’s job is not to win playoff games and win a Stanley Cup? Keep in mind that burden here is on you to prove that Dubas is "one of the worst GMs in NHL history". I’ve already proven that Dubas is one of the worst GM’s in NHL history. My prior posts with all the factual supporting information proves that. It’s up to you to disprove it. The Leafs are a complete mess right now. Their superstar player is 30 days away from having 100% control over his future. He has Treliving by the balls. He literally can reject any contract extension and walk to free agency at 26 years old with Toronto getting nothing in return. And you’re trying to convince me that Dubas had no control over that situation? He is the one who literally created that situation. Toronto has no depth, no prospects and no draft picks. The only reason Dubas got another job is because he is a part of the club. We all know that. We’re not stupid.
  4. The trade is actually two first round picks plus Demko and Miller and some scraps for Leo Carlsson, Andrew Peeke and Sean Kuraly. Carlsson alone is worth two 1sts and Demko. The other two 1st round picks are coming from Pittsburgh in order for them to acquire Demko and Miller. That’s why it’s a 3 way trade as Columbus doesn’t want Miller but Dubas may be all over him.
  5. Tocchet loves Dvorak. I’d do that trade in a heartbeat.
  6. The difference between Benning and Dubas is that Benning actually had to draft his entire core while he was the GM. Dubas was given a core and even then managed to never win a playoff round until this year. I’m not gonna stick up for Benning. He made some horrible moves. But he also drafted Petey, Hughes and Demko. And traded for Miller. Which impact player did Dubas acquire in his 5 years as a GM? Zero. Not only that he traded away a core player in Kadri who went on to win a Stanley Cup with Colorado. With the core group that was handed to Dubas, he should have done a lot more that win one playoff round in 5 years. He has now left that organization in a shambles. Their core 4 all need new contracts over the next 2 years, they have no depth, no prospects and no draft picks. So not sure how you can say that Toronto is better off now than when Dubas arrived 5 years ago.
  7. He traded a 1st round pick just to get rid of one year of Patrick Marleau's contract. He traded Nazem Kadri and a 3rd round pick for Alex Kerfoot and Tyson Barrie. He traded Sean Durzi and a 1st round pick for Jake Muzzin. He traded Trevor Moore plus two 3rd round picks for Jack Campbell. He traded Mason Marchment for Denis Malgin. He traded a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick to get Ryan O'Reilly for 2 months. He traded two 2nd round picks and one 3rd round pick for a way past his prime Mark Giordano. He traded a 1st round pick and a 4th round pick for Stefan Noesen, who played one game for Toronto. He traded a 7th round pick for Jared McCann and then left him unprotected in the expansion draft and McCann was scooped up by Seattle and is now a 40-goal scorer. I think in terms of trades, Kyle Dubas was worse than Jim Benning and Mike Gillis. Probably one of the worst GM's in NHL history in terms of making trades really. Not to mention the fact that he only signed Matthews to a 5-year deal instead of an 8-year deal and now Toronto is in danger of losing him for nothing. He also signed Tavares to an $11 million per year deal when he was barely a PPG player in New York. Only signed Marner to a 6-year deal instead of an 8-year deal. And he also screwed up the Nylander deal by allowing him to hold out after his 3-year entry contract had expired and allowed Nylander to put a gun to his head to get a 6-year $45 million contract after a 61-point season. Dubas is probably one of the worst GM's in NHL history to be honest with you...
  8. Are Hoglander and Rathbone really part of our prospect pool? They are both waiver eligible this season. That means they are either on the Canucks or are gone. I'd rather have a 25 year old Peeke who can play with Hughes for the next decade than those two guys. As for the 11OA and the 2024 1st, I'd rather have Leo Carlsson who is pretty much a sure thing and would have easily been the #1 overall pick in the last 4 drafts...
  9. Trading for Leo Carlsson is for no reason? Giving up significant futures? We are getting Leo Carlsson in the deal. Like WTF are you talking about?
  10. I knew you would get it Spook. What's not to like in Carlsson replacing Miller? And we have cap space to sign Hill who is in the Stanley Cup finals who can replace Demko until Silovs is ready. Hill was born in Comox so he is a BC boy. And we add a top 4 RHD that can instantly play with Hughes. We also add a hard nosed Tocchet syle 3C in Kuraly who can play until Raty is ready. Plus, on top of all of that, we free up $12 million in cap space to sign ANOTHER top 4 Dman in Graves. I actually prefer this to the Chicago blockbuster. It adds all the missing pieces we need to be competitive now and into the future 7-8 years as well...
  11. Half our team? Petey, Hughes, Kuzmenko and Hronek are still on it. Carlsson replaced Miller. Hill replaces Demko with Silovs on the way. We add a top 4 RHD in Peeke to play with Hughes. And we add a hard-nosed 3C for our playoff run. We also open up $12 million in cap space to go after another top 4 Dman in Graves. Our team is pretty much complete now. What it is exactly you don't like?
  12. Carlsson will be a 1B centre with Petey. Peeke will be Hughes partner for the next decade. Kuraly is a really good 3C. We also free up $12 million in cap space (Miller, Demko, Beauvillier - Granlund), which allows us to sign UFA's Graves, Hill, Reaves and Schenn to fill out the roster... So we get Carlsson, Peeke, Kuraly and $12 million in cap space...
  13. Okay, so Chicago didn't bite. Well, what about Columbus? And what about Dubas making a big splash in Pittsburgh? I think this might be the one... To Vancouver: 2023 3OA Mikael Granlund Andrew Peeke Sean Kuraly To Columbus: 2023 11OA 2023 14OA 2024 1st round pick (Pittsburgh) 2024 1st round pick (Vancouver) Anthony Beauvillier Nils Hoglander Jack Rathbone Owen Pickering Samuel Poulin To Pittsburgh: JT Miller Thatcher Demko Sign Ryan Graves, Adin Hill, Ryan Reaves and Luke Schenn as UFA's. Kuzmenko Pettersson Mikheyev Granlund Carlsson Boeser Podkolzin Kuraly Garland Joshua Aman Reaves PDG Hughes Peeke Graves Hronek OEL Myers Brisebois Schenn Hill Silovs Pearson/Poolman LTIR Oh baby...
  14. If you are rebuilding then you would consider this trade and probably do it. However, the Canucks are not rebuilding so they wouldn't entertain it. They are better off re-signing Petey and trying to make the playoffs this season. They may even trade the 11OA in order to get another 24–25-year-old player. Plus, as Wai already mentioned, the cap numbers don't work for Columbus. They are better off keeping the two young players and waiting 2-3 more years for their window to open. Other than Gaudreau, all of their top players are 25 or under, so keeping Carlsson and Johnson makes more sense for them.
  15. Yes. And Woo should have every opportunity to make the club as the 7/8 Dman this season. Bieksa was still in the AHL at 23. Didn’t play any NHL games until he was 24. He was also a late bloomer.
  16. We will never get over it. This will be going on for the next 7 years at least until he signs with us as a UFA...
  17. Thanks Kenny. Doesn't look like Pronman is too high on Benson, ASP, Moore or Barlow. I'm not either to be honest. He seems to be really high on Reinbacher, Danielson and But. I don't think much separates from pick 6 to pick 20 to be honest. Could see some surprises in the top 10 too. Tier 5 goes from 10-20. Those players could all go in different spots on draft day. Willander is moving up. He could be the 2nd Dman off the board. And he could definitely be Allvin's guy... Tier 1: 1. Connor Bedard Tier 2: 2. Adam Fantilli 3. Matvei Michkov Tier 3: 4. Leo Carlsson 5. Will Smith Tier 4: 6. David Reinbacher 7. Nate Danielson 8. Dalibor Dvorsky 9. Danil But 10. Dmitriy Simashev Tier 5: 11. Ryan Leonard 12. Gabriel Perreault 13. Samuel Honzek 14. Matthew Wood 15. Tom Willander 16. Brayden Yager 17. Zach Benson 18. David Edstrom 19. Oliver Moore 20. Colby Barlow
  18. Of course Bedard is the best player out of all of those assets. If he wasn’t the trade would never be proposed. Do you think Petey gets thrown in to close the deal? Also, the 11OA and the 14OA picks in 2023 aren’t scraps. Those players could end up being a #1 C and a #1 D.
  19. Florida only has 3 of their own draft picks on their 23 man roster. Another 6 players were acquired via a trade. The majority of their team, 14 players, were acquired for free either via free agency or on waivers. This tells me that having 2-3 very high picks, making a couple of shrewd trades and having enough cap space to get good quality free agents is really all you need to build a Stanley Cup champion. If you want to relate this to Vancouver, we already have 2-3 high picks that are studs (Petey, Hughes), we’ve made a couple of shrewd trades to acquire top talent (Miller, Hronek), and we’ve also acquired some very good free agents (Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Joshua, Aman). We’ve even managed to have more draft picks in the lineup in Boeser, Podkolzin and Demko. The biggest difference between Florida and Vancouver is the quality of the rest of the team. Florida managed to get Bobrovsky, Forsling, Gudas, Staal, Staal, Lomberg, Verhaeghe and Duclair all for free via free agency. These players pushed them over the top. So that tells me that Vancouver needs to open up enough cap space in order to acquire these type of players. I don’t think we need any more high picks in the lineup. Florida acquired their defence mostly from free agency or waivers. They have the one high pick. We already have Hughes and even traded for Hronek. So we should be looking at clearing enough cap space to acquire another 2-3 Dmen to complete the roster. And add a 3C.
  20. For everyone who says that Vegas had a huge advantage with the expansion draft rules, remember that Philadelphia won back-to-back cups after only their 7th year in the NHL. The NY Islanders won the cup after their 8th year in the NHL and won 4 cups in a row. The Islanders also had two #1 overall picks in a row when they entered the NHL. This is the 6th year for Vegas. Just sayin...
  21. We could always give them a 2026 1st round pick to close the deal...
  22. Fantilli looked great against NHL competition. We haven't seen Bedard play yet against the big boys. I mean he is 5'10" on his tip toes, so you never know. Could he be Brayden Point on steroids? Or Alexandre Daigle 2.0? Besides being on the smaller side, Bedard also does not have the speed that a McDavid has. His shot is outer worldly, but he has never used it against Bobrovsky, Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Ullmark, etc. Will he be able to score at will against those goaltenders? Will he be able to beat the forecheck of the bigger NHL forwards or the abuse of the bigger NHL Dmen, and will his body be able to withstand the rigors of the NHL? I guess we will find out in 6 months...
