Is the Current Canuck Defence Playoff Team Quality? (My Analysis)

Only if Adam Foote and Sergei Gonchar suited up... -
He rode Demko hard because Delia and Martin were the backups. If he actually had a legit backup goalie he wouldn’t have the need to ride the starter until he dropped. Tocchet doesn’t have a history of riding a #1 goalie hard. That’s old school hockey.

Things have changed. In the 2022-2023 NHL season, only 7 goalies played at least 60 games and only 17 goalies played at least 50 games. This means only 7 out of 32 starting goalies played 60+ games and only 17 out of 32 starting goalies played 50+ games. That's just over 53% or a little over half the starting goalies in the NHL played 50+ games last season. 2022-23 NHL Goalie Statistics | Hockey-Reference.com The Vezina trophy winner in 2022 played 53 games. Linus Ullmark, the most likely Vezina winner in 2023, played 49 games this season. The last time a Vezina trophy winner played at least 60 games was Sergei Bobrovsky in the 2016-2017 NHL season...

I agree. Shesterkin played 53 games last season and won the Vezina. He played 58 games this year. He’s never played 60 games. And he’s on the east coast with limited travel as well. 55 games should be tops for Demko. If he plays more than that he is probably getting injured. Playing on the west coast he should never be playing anywhere close to 60 games.

Yes, he will definitely get injured if he plays 60 games.

Bobby Orr is available? -
Actually my bad. 2003 was when Giguere stood on his head and won the Conn Smythe. Brodeur was also all world that year. 2007 I think Anaheim had a better overall team and won the Cup in only 18 games. Vegas just doesn’t seem too overpowering to me. They won the first two games in overtime so this series was closer than some people think. I think Florida is going to take it in 5 games. Bob will definitely steal the show but I think Tkachuk will score some big goals too.

The 1987 Flyers lost to the greatest team ever. The 1982 Canucks lost to the second greatest team ever. I don’t think Vegas is in the same solar system as the 80’s Oilers and the 80’s Islanders. Brodeur in 2003 won the Vezina and almost won the Hart trophy too. He was definitely the better goalie that year than Giguere.

I'm assuming to play in the Olympics players take some sort of risk. For the WC I don't think most players if any would take that same risk...
