That’s a good point. Either Motte or Roussel can sit for Sutter and Sutter can slide onto the 4th line. My lineup has more truculence which I know will be needed come playoff time. But Sutter is still in the equation. He could even replace Gaudette on the 3rd line if he struggles at all in the playoffs. For me Sutter is the guy you keep and he can slide onto pretty much any line. Good versatility to have come playoff time.

I'd trade for Simmonds even with Ferland coming back. I'd want both in the lineup for the playoffs so our skill guys don't get rag dolled and we punish the other teams. The playoffs are a whole different level than the regular season. it will be a war of attrition. Even a guy like Reaves can be effective in the playoffs as was shown over the last couple years in Vegas. Miller Pettersson Boeser Pearson BO Simmonds Ferland Gaudette Virtanen Roussel Beagle Motte That is a very good lineup to start in the playoffs. Big physical wingers up and down the lineup. I'm not sure the cap implications of adding Simmonds and Ferland but I am sure Benning can figure it out. We can get rid of Schaller or Leivo to make room for Simmonds, plus New Jersey could always retain. We could send them a young prospect and either Schaller or Leivo to even out the salaries for the trade while New Jersey retains.

Tryamkin is a sutd. Watch Zadorov play. Tryamkin is bigger, faster, meaner and better than Zadorov who is a key piece to Colorado's defence. When he comes back and he's ready to play watch out. 6'7", 265 pounds and can skate like a forward with a blistering shot, a long stick and can rag doll guys that are 230 pounds. Nikita Tryamkin is going to turn some heads when he is back. He was just a kid a few years ago when he joined us. He is a man now. And knows what he wants. He wants to play in the best league in the world and make money for himself and his family. He knows this now. He will come over and be in beast mode, mark my words...

These contracts you want to trade draft picks for will ALL be gone in 2 years time. You understand this right? Petey and Hughes won't even be in their prime in 2 years and Eriksson, Sutter, Beagle, Roussel, Baertschi, Benn, Pearson, Luongo's cap hit, Edler, will all be off the books. By the end of 2022 when Petey is 23 and Hughes is 22 all those contracts will be gone. Our young prospects will take over. Next year and the year after are the only 2 years that Benning needs to worry about. After 2022 we are home free.

I don’t have a problem trading Hockey Gaud as long as the package is right. Tyler Madden is a stud, much better skater than Gaudette and much better defensively. And he has his father’s genes as well. John was a great two way centre in his day and I can see Tyler being the same type of player only with more speed and skill than his father. Madden might be a better fit as a 3rd line centre than Gaudette. Not sure what defenceman is available. Risto is an option, but he only has a couple years left on his contract. I’d try and look at another defenceman who’s younger and cheaper who can play with Quinn. I don’t see Tanev re-signing with us, especially if we re-sign Marky. I do like Gaudette but feel that Madden is a better replacement long term. But I could be wrong. Time will tell. You have to give to get, so getting another top 4 Dman who is young and cheap is going to cost us a very good prospect and roster player.

Neither Tanev nor Stecher are getting traded this season. We have a chance to win the division and actually not just make the playoffs but do some damage as well. We are 14-4 in our last 18 games. I don’t think we’ve had this much success since 2012. We aren’t going to trade anybody on the roster. Most likely we will stand pat and wait for Ferland and Leivo to come back to add to our depth. We don’t have the cap space to add another player. In regards to Tryamkin, if he comes it would be in March and he would add to our defensive depth. I don’t think he’s going to replace any of our starters in the beginning, but come playoff time he could be a great option on the 3rd pairing.

This could be the trade of the decade. Maybe one of the better ones in Canucks history. If the Canucks finish in first place in their division this year Tampa will get our pick this year which will be in the low 20’s. The player they get may never play in the NHL, or it may be a player who’s a 3rd or 4th liner. Obviously we will need to see who that player is and follow their career but at the end of the day I do this trade over again 10 out of 10 times knowing what we know now. Miller is a bonafide top 6 power forward, one of the better ones in the league. The way he is playing now he is worth far more than a first round pick.

In their last 10 games played Hughes has 14 points and Makar has 8. So Hughes is trending higher than Makar and it’s most likely he will get more points in the balance of the games left than Makar. However Colorado has 2 games in hand so that should help Makar close the gap a bit. I would say based on the last 10 games and how well the Canucks are playing that Hughes will outsource Makar by season’s end. Not sure he will get more goals, but I don’t think that will be the final determination on who wins. Hughes could beat Makar by several points, maybe 5-7 points, so that should be enough to take it. But it will be close. Barring injury to either player it could be as close as one or two votes of a difference.

Quinn Hughes is a phenomenon... -
Benning’s master plan coming together quite nicely. Build through the draft, compliment the young players with some veterans and continue to add young prospects to the lineup each year. Playoffs will happen this year. We may even win a round. Then more young prospects will join the big club over the next 2 years. Once that happens we will be shooting for not only the playoffs but in becoming a true Stanley Cup contender for many years. The plan is in place. Looking forward to it’s completion.

Jake has arrived. A legit top 6 power forward. Is there anyone who would trade him straight up for William Nylander or Nikolaj Ehlers? I didn’t think so. You don’t trade a legit top 6 power forward who can dominate the boards in the playoffs and play a heavy two way game over a one way top 6 forward.

Just look at the drafting prior to 2014. Only one player remains on the roster, BO. Since 2014 when Benning took over we now have 6 players on the roster with 2 of those players being elite franchise game changers in Petey and Hughes. Gaudette, Boeser, Virtanen and Demko are the other 4. The trades for Miller and Pearson were incredible. Stecher was a good free agent pickup and signing Beagle and Roussel for the bottom 2 lines was a good piece of business. Has Benning been perfect? Of course not, even Scotty Bowman made mistakes. But overall I think Benning has turned this team around into a legit playoff team. And then you look at our prospect pool. Podkolzin, Hoglander, Lind, Madden, Rathbone, Woo, Tryamkin, Juolevi, Brisebois, Rafferty, DiPietro. The cupboard of prospects is so full the cabinet door can’t close. I believe Jim Benning is one of the better GM’s in the league right now. Hopefully once playoff success comes to Vancouver he will be recognized as one of the best.
