  1. If the Canucks win their games in hand they would be tied for first in the division. Lots of overreaction here. The last 2 games have sucked but every team goes through ups and downs, especially younger teams. There is no guarantee the Canucks will make the playoffs this year, but they have as good a chance as anyone in their division. Calgary and Edmonton are not powerhouses. The Canucks can overtake them.
  2. The only guy on your list who is ready for prime time is Rafferty because he is already 24 years old and is at a point a game. I wouldn't bring anyone else up until next year. Zack seems ready as well but Green doesn't seem to want to play him. Schaller isn't playing at his earlier level so you can take him out for Zack. With Rafferty Stecher would need to be traded.
  3. Won't work cap wise. We need Hoglander on his ELC versus Domi who will get $5+ million next year. Montreal doesn't need Tanev either as he would be going to a playoff contender if traded. And mostly why would they trade Domi, he's arguably their best forward and he's only 24...
  4. I agree. I think Rafferty replaces Stecher in the lineup next year and OJ spends another year in Utica and is first call up next year. With Edler and Hughes there is no room for him on the left side and I don’t think you play him on the 3rd pairing.
  5. Benning isn’t signing him to a two year deal as that would make him a UFA at the end of his contract. He’s either signing a one year prove it deal or Benning will try and get him to sign a long term 4-5 year deal...
  6. I think he’s better than Loui...
  7. Goldobin has the talent to be a 20 goal scorer at the NHL level. Perhaps Larionov felt that Goldy could have improved his defensive game which would have allowed the Canucks or another team to give him a chance to play in the NHL. Having said that he could get a tryout with a new team next year to try and get his career back...
  8. Why would I care what CDC posters think about Messier? He’s one of the greatest NHL players ever. And Igor Larionov, who played for Vancouver and is one of the greatest Russian players ever, said he thinks Podkolzin is a young Messier. That’s a great compliment to one of our top young prospects. Im sure Larionov was referring to the Edmonton Messier and not the Vancouver Messier.
  9. Miller would be 2nd in scoring right now on Tampa. But he was excess baggage to them only a few months ago. Love it. Hope he gets another 4 point night tomorrow and the first star just to make that wound a little deeper.
  10. I think all you need to do is give Benning a bunch of 7th round picks and he will find at least one gem every year. Benning is about as good as it gets when it comes to drafting. McDonough looks like highway robbery of the worst kind...
  11. So we’re going to trade Hogs as part of a cap dump to get Toffoli? My sides...
  12. You must have missed the article where one of the greatest Russian players ever compares Podkolzin to one of the greatest NHL players ever...
  13. So nobody has mentioned the most important question about when Tryamkin comes back to Vancouver. Does Hockey Gaud take one look and just give him back the number #88 or do you think then battle it out? #8 could become available in the summer. Maybe Nikita plays nice and only takes one 8 instead of two...
  14. Podkolzin had a very good tournament for an 18 year old. I think we have not seen even 30% of the future Podkolzin. This kid will get bigger, much bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets to 215 pounds. He’s got the body type for it. He will be devastating in the corners. He’s not an elite skater but he will be a nice complimentary player to a guy like BO and Hoglander. He will win the battles in the corners, will win battles in front of the net, will kill penalties and will just be a hard guy to play against. Podkolzin along with Hoglander have high compete levels. They are both built for the NHL and for playoff hockey. 2019 could he the draft where Benning got both wingers for BO in one draft.
  15. Not concerned about this kid at all. He uses his elbows to protect himself not to purposely hurt other players. This is quite evident in the two instances this year. Those elbows will serve him well in the NHL. The rules are different now so no guarantees he won’t get suspended, but I’d rather see him suspended while protecting himself versus being out all year with concussions from cheap hits. Pavel Bure used his elbows all the time to fend off cheap shot artists. The rules were different back then. His devastating elbow on Churla didn’t even result in a penalty. Today he would get a 10 game suspension for the same hit. I love Hoglander’s compete level. He’s gonna be a beauty. Perfect linemate for BO. I can see BO, Hogs and Podz as a great complimentary second line to the Lotto Line.
  16. Marchand is on pace for 116 points which would break the all time Canucks regular season scoring record held by Henrik Sedin. Let's not get carried away here...
  17. Edler is quietly having his best year since 2011-2012 all while missing 10 games. In those 10 games we went 5-5 and since he's been back we've won 4 in a row. Pearson is also quietly having his best year ever, on pace for 60 points. So I would say Edler and Pearson are the unsung heroes.
  18. I’d love to see this kid on BO’s line in the playoffs...
  19. This guy is the real deal. Can play all forward positions and is especially effective in the face off circle. Perfect compliment to Petey and many thanks to take the #9 so we can have The Lotto Line. Where we would be without Miller in the lineup today is hard to comprehend but I think we are not anywhere close to a playoff position without him. Benning’s best trade to date. Definitely worthy of a first round pick, especially if it’s in the 18-20 range. I would nominate Miller as our MVP so far this year. And the icing on the cake is he is on a cap friendly contract in relation to his production for another 3 years. Thank you Jim Benning...
  20. No I don’t have to rethink anything because I reviewed Cap Friendly and figured it all out myself. I only “guessed” on the increase in cap space because nobody knows what it actually will be as of today. So I used a rough number. Most people have estimated the cap to go up by at least $5 million, but it could be a lot higher. I’m sure you can agree the cap will go up with a new tv deal in place, it’s not wishful thinking. In terms of who the replacements will be we have lots of young prospects who will be on ELC’s. Hoglander, Podkolzin, Madden, Lind, Brisebiois, Juolevi, Woo, Rathbone, DiPietro. We have lots of young guys that will be challenging for spots in 2021 or will already be on the team. As for Marky, Jake and Gaudette those guys are up this year not next year. So if you let Tanev walk and you trade Stecher then you have the cap space to re-sign those guys. I played with Cap Friendly for over an hour and put in all the scenarios. I didn’t see a cap issue with the Canucks moving forward. Unless of course Benning tries to go out and sign a bunch of UFA’s which I don’t think is going to happen. I think Benning’s plan is to get his young prospects into the lineup over the next two years.
  21. We will have much more cap space than the $21 million. The cap will go up by $5-7 million and we can buy out several contracts including Loui's, Roussel and Beagle if we have to. Cap space is not an issue with the Canucks. Like I said spend some time on Cap Friendly and you can figure it out yourself instead of guessing or listening to the uneducated media talking heads...
  22. I think Dahlin might be the problem. He may want to come home to play with Petey, Marky and Edler. And he wants to see the Sedin retirement party. Demko, Juolevi and a 2nd?
