[Report] Evan Rodrigue requests trade

So a guy who went undrafted and has zero goals this year is demanding a trade. Why not just send him to the minors where he belongs? -
I think you could be right. It may happen that way. And Stecher could be traded in a different deal for another pick. Next year’s draft is strong so it makes sense to try and load up on picks and let Benning do his magic. I don’t think we’d have the cap space to acquire another top 6 forward. Maybe Hoglander or Lind can take the next step next year. I’m thinking Hoglander has a good shot at making the club.

No Demko is also a chip. If Marky signs long term then it makes no sense to keep Demko around as he could be a valuable chip in a trade and he also would have to be exposed in the expansion draft. Same with Stecher. He is due for a big raise, won't be protected in the expansion draft and we have Rafferty waiting in the wings. So we could package Demko AND Stecher which should land us a good young top 6 forward. The only problem would be the cap space for next year. Unless Loui retires or we can trade Sutter and Baertschi we may not have the room to add another top 6 forward.

Unfortunately for Boston Benning had already left so this is the result. Meanwhile Benning took Boeser at 23 that year. -
It's not easy to score 40 goals in the NHL. Last year only 13 players did it. Even Patrik Laine is having issues scoring goals this year. He only has one more than Brock. It's more a matter of defences and goalies figuring you out and overcoming that. Some players can overcome it, others can't. We don't know where Brock will be in 3 years. But he's only 22 so he still has time to figure it out to try and get to that 40 goal mark. I think he will get there. By age 25 I think he will be a 40 goal scorer barring any major injury. He's a smart kid who is dedicated to his sport.

Boeser has more points than Patrik Laine, Kyle Conner, Mathew Barzal, Taylor Hall, Matthew Tkachuk, Brayden Point, Sebastian Aho, Timo Meier and is tied with Alexander Ovechkin and Andrei Svechnikov. On pace for almost 80 points. Plays on our first line and our first unit PP. Is 22 years old. Is on a cap friendly contract given his production. Plays a decent 200' game and is not a liability defensively. Why are we thinking about trading him again??

The sign of a good GM is to know when to cut your losses and try something new. The price we paid for Gudbranson was a bit high, but Benning felt he added an element we didn't have so he made the trade and took the risk. Guddy unfortunately got worse playing for us not better even though he was still young enough to grow his game. Nobody knows for sure what happened, most likely his injuries are worse than we know and he can't play the game he used to play. In any event Benning saw what was happening and flipped him for Pearson, who has been a solid contributor for us, even moreso than McCann is for Pittsburgh. Pearson is currently playing at a top 6 forward level and playing in all situations. So it was a great trade for Benning. Benning may have overpaid for Gudbranson to begin with but made up for it in the second deal. That's how a good GM does business. Not even Scotty Bowman won every trade.

They also traded their first round pick this year in a strong draft plus another 3rd round pick next year for a rental that may not even take them to the playoffs. I'm sure they could flip Hall but I doubt they get anywhere near the same return. These types of deals are done at the deadline where teams know where they stand. Hall is the type of player you trade for if you are one player away from contending. Arizona has proven they are a one man show. If their goalie is hurt they are not even a playoff team, even with Hall. So Chayka went in over his head on this one thinking his team was a contender when they really aren't.

After tonight’s game I wouldn’t trade Virtanen for Nylander or Ehlers straight up. Jake will be a stud and much more valuable in the playoffs than the other two. Jake will be hitting guys through the boards come playoff time while Nylander will be skating around the bench combing his hair. If you don’t believe me watch the highlights of the Leafs playoff games last year. Willie was nearly invisible. Also, if Virtanen was playing with Matthews or Tavares instead of Gaudette and averaging 18 minutes a night he’d probably have just ss many points as Nylander if not more. Not to mention all the extra PP time.

He has more points that Miller. How exactly is he a passenger on that line?
