  1. Virtanen loses the puck and then fights to get it back. Man his defensive game has improved 1000%...
  2. Imagine little Bertuzzi wearing #44 and playing with Gaudette and Virtanen...
  3. Lucic too slow to get out of the zone and ruined a potential goal for Calgary. Love it.
  4. Lucic is already breathing heavy. They may have to bench him for the 3rd period...
  5. Well for sure he would have had some call ups at a minimum. His foot speed was never an issue in Junior. He's having issues now because of his knee and hip. I'm sure if he can finish out the year strong and a good summer workout with a skating coach he could have a shot next year at the big club. We will see. His vision and hockey IQ are already at an NHL level. Let's see if he can get that body to perform like his mind.
  6. Juolevi would be in the NHL today if not for the injuries. C'mon you can't really believe otherwise can you?
  7. I agree. No way I trade any of our recent picks for rentals. It would have to be for established NHL players who are young enough to blend in with the core and won't become UFA's for several more years or they are on great long term contracts like Miller. Little Bertuzzi and Anthony Mantha would be 2 players I would consider trading some of our prospects for. There are others but those are 2 that I really like. Not saying we should trade anyone but it is obvious we have a big hole in our top 6 and I'm not sure Benning wants to wait several more years to fill it. BO needs help now.
  8. Yes this is true. But you forgot to point out the reason why. The reason why is because in 6 years of drafting Benning has had 7 1st round picks, and out of those 7 picks 5 have been forwards. Also, in 6 years he has had 5 2nd round picks where he has selected an additional 3 forwards, 1 defenceman and 1 goalie. So in total he has had 12 picks in the first two rounds, and 8 of those have been forwards and only 3 have been defencemen. So obviously it is logical to see that more of his forwards have made the jump to the big club considering he has only drafted 3 defenceman in the first two rounds in the last 6 years while drafting 8 forwards. And of those 3 defencemen drafted in the first 2 rounds, one is a complete stud, perhaps a Calder trophy winner and Norris trophy winner at some point, another one would be playing in the NHL right now if it weren't for his 2 serious injuries and the 3rd one is still playing in the CHL. The reason the others aren't playing in the NHL is because all of the other Dmen Benning has drafted were later round picks that take years to develop. However, out of those later picks 3 have actually already played in the NHL, Nikita Tryamkin, Gustav Forsling and Guillaume Brisebois. Tryamkin would still be in the NHL today if he didn't leave and go to Russia.
  9. Yes their stats were similar minus that one game. The difference is Marky has been fairly consistent now going on 2 1/2 years while Demko did it for less than 12 games. I'd like to see how Demko plays out the rest of the year. I hope he does well as I want him to get his trade value up as high as possible. At this point Marky has proven to be a legit #1 goalie, has proven he can handle 60+ games a year as a starter, has proven he can steal games on his own, and is just entering his prime years as he has only had a big workload for a couple years now so he doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on him. He is also one of the vocal leaders of the team and his teammates love him. I hope he signs a long term deal with us before the deadline so we know he will be around for awhile. Then Benning can work on what to do with Demko and when he can pull the plug on a trade to maximize his value. If Demko is one of our top prospects then the hope is we can package him some other prospects to get a legit top 6 winger for BO. Hello Tyler Bertuzzi...
  10. If Kole Lind is part of the trade package then it better be little Bertuzzi coming back...
  11. His hockey vision and IQ are off the charts. That's why Benning drafted him. It's not Benning's fault he got 2 serious injuries in 2 years. Can't predict that, especially when he never had a serious injury in his career in junior. If he can stay healthy for the next year or so I can see him replacing Edler at some point in our top 4. He has a great first pass out of the zone like Hughes, tape to tape.
  12. 12 games this year proves you're a capable backup? Don't think so. And how is he a reliable backup when he gets injured every year from pucks to the head?
  13. Myers was a fine pickup as he's allowed Tanev to play less minutes and thus stay healthy all year. It's no coincidence that Tanev hasn't missed a single game this year due to injury while Myers has been in the lineup. And we got him for free with no assets to give up so I think it was a solid pickup for Benning. Hughes was the steal of the draft, Rathbone looks like an absolute steal in the 4th round. Utunen looks like a player, not bad for a 5th round pick. Jett Woo has lots of potential to be a top 4 defenceman as a 2nd round pick, Brisebois looks like a solid defensive dman who can play on your 3rd pairing. Not bad for a 3rd round pick. Rafferty and Stecher were picked up for free and look like solid players as well. Juolevi was very good in junior, he didn't miss much time at all due to injury and has a very high hockey IQ. If it wasn't for the injuries he would be playing in the NHL today. Gudbranson was a stud in Florida, he led their defencemen with minutes played in the 2016 playoffs. He was a fearless bone crushing defenceman that was needed on this team, something we did not have. McCann was regressing in Vancouver so the trade at the time didn't look too bad. McCann was also traded again to Pittsburgh, so he obviously didn't fit in with Florida either. He's playing well now but that may be due to the fact that he's playing in a good system on a great team with world class players. Guys like Sbisa and Pouliot were just filler until other players came in, they were never meant to be long term solutions.
