  1. Little Bert would look incredible with Gaudette and Virtanen. I would even force him to wear #44 as part of the deal...
  2. So Tyler is Todd's nephew. Wouldn't it be great to see the name Bertuzzi on the back of a Canucks jersey again? Tyler is having a great year. Detroit is in full rebuild mode. I'm sure they would entertain trading him for a package of players/picks to help with their rebuild. Tyler is an agitator, more of a role player 3rd line type of guy. But he already has 30 points this year and plays almost 20 minutes a night. So he still has some upside to be a consistent top 6 winger. His uncle didn't really get going until he was 24, so the fact that Tyler is just breaking out at 24 makes sense as it runs in the family. I think Tyler would make a great linemate for BO, or even Hockey Gaud, on the left side. We bring in Hoglander next year and see who fits best. Tyler could definitely help us out now and is young enough to blend in with our young core for the future. I have to admit I haven't watched much of Tyler this year, so maybe some here can give feedback on his game this year and what the Canucks would have to give up to get him. Would he help our top 6 or is he more of a 3rd line guy? Do we need to trade Demko + to get him? Fire away...
  3. Podkolzin has a game built for playoff hockey. It's like when the Canucks got Linden instead of Modano. Modano had the wheels and the skillset but Linden was a force of nature come playoff time and led us to the Stanley Cup final. " He will play, you'll know he'll play, he'll play on crutches, he will play and he'll play at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night"...
  4. As per Cap Friendly Rafferty must be protected. I think it has to do with his age. Even though he will only have 2 years of pro experience like Hughes he signed his pro contract when he was over the age of 20.
  5. If Tryamkin takes Tanev's spot and Rafferty takes Stecher's spot there is plenty of room. I know some people think we are going to re-sign Tanev but I doubt that will happen if Tryamkin comes back and signs a long term deal. Also, Ferland may stay on LTIR, giving us an extra $3.5 million. And who knows, maybe Benning has a side deal where Loui retires. But in any event, without Tanev, Stecher (most likely traded), Schaller and Leivo we can re-sign Gaudette, Virtanen, Markstrom and bring in Tryamkin and Rafferty. I doubt Benning goes after any UFA's next summer though. I think we will be focused on integrating our youth into the lineup. Hoglander could be another one to make the big club. And there is Kole Lind.
  6. Everything is correct except Benn will also be a UFA along with Edler, so he doesn't need protection. If Tryamkin re-signs with us in the summer then I can see the 3 guys we protect as follows: Myers Juolevi Tryamkin Guys that would be eligible for the draft would be as follows: Stecher (if he's still around) Rafferty Brisebois Teves Chatfield Sautner Rafferty could be the guy Seattle wants in the draft. Or Kole Lind. It's not a given they would take Demko, especially with his concussion history. Stecher most likely will be moved in the summer. If Rafferty is the real deal I'd try to protect him as much as possible, even giving up a draft pick. We could use Lind as trade bait in a package with Stecher and Demko to fetch a top 6 forward if we were to trade Demko. Benning will have a lot of decisions to make next year. But at the end of the day we will only use lose one player, so it won't be the end of the world.
  7. His skating looks fine here. He is actually blowing through defenders and accelerating to the front of the net...
  8. Yes I read about that study, that's why I mentioned that they are looking at proteins in the blood, specifically the one you mentioned. I am sure they will eventually find a way to 100% detect CTE in the living, which may force a lot of athletes to retire early. Imagine if every athlete who received a concussion was tested for CTE and the protein CLL11, I am sure they would find a lot of these guys would have elevated levels of the protein and are in the early stages of CTE before the main symptoms have kicked in. A guy like Ferland could easily be in the early stages of CTE while having very little symptoms other than post concussion effects. When you get to the point where you are depressed and show aggressive tendencies the disease may already be at an advanced stage. In any event Ferland should definitely shut it down for the rest of the year and re-evaluate in the summer and go from there.
  9. He is on his ELC for one more year so he doesn't need waiver protection next year...
  10. Juolevi is basically being groomed to replace Edler. So he needs to play the tough minutes in Utica in all situations so he can come to Vancouver as a complete defenceman. Edler will be around at least another year after this year and maybe longer so we have time to develop OJ properly and not have to rush him into the lineup. if he can come in and start contributing at 22 or 23 then that timeline works as we either re-sign Edler to another year extension or we bring up Juolevi full time after next year. I think with no more injury setbacks another full year in Utica after this year should be enough time for Juolevi to take over a top 4 spot on our blue line. As for Rafferty he could be a great weapon to have on the 2nd unit PP. If he can continue to develop at this pace he should be able to replace Stecher in the lineup next year and we can save millions in cap space and hopefully get something in return for Stecher.
  11. Unfortunately CTE can only be fully diagnosed post mortem, i.e. after you have passed away. They are looking at ways to try and detect it in the living through proteins in the blood but I am not sure they are there yet. All the athletes diagnosed with CTE so far have been diagnosed after they had passed away and their brains donated for testing.
  12. Virtanen has 20 points so far this year. The 2 guys he will always be compared to are Nylander and Ehlers. They both have 28 points. However, they also both average around 5 minutes per game more in ice time and play regular minutes in the top 6. If Virtanen was playing 17 minutes a night with BO or Petey he might also have 28 points, we will never know. But the biggest difference is that Jake plays a physical game unlike the other two, which is much needed as we don't have a lot of physical forwards. So you need to take that into consideration. He may never get the same amount of points as Ehlers or Nylander but if he is a 20 goal guy on the 3rd line playing a power forward game then I am happy we have Jake. And being a local boy may help with marketing in the future if he can play consistently at this level. And best of all his overall game translates better in a tough 7 game playoff series than an Ehlers or a Nylander, so that could be the deciding factor when we get to see Jake in the playoffs.
  13. Yes Aquilini would never approve a trade that weakens his teams ability to make the playoffs this year. We are not in selling mode, we may be actually in buying mode come February. Tanev's situation will get taken care of in the summer. We have a difference of opinion on how that is going to play out but at least we can agree that Tanev is staying put for the rest of this year and will help us in making our playoff push.
  14. Merry Christmas to everyone from Petey and the rest of the boys!!! 2020 we make playoffs and win Stanley Cup...
  15. Right. I hear that all the time. Gretzky won the scoring title when he was 33 in the 90’s, beating out guys like Jagr, Fedorov and Bure. When Patrick Roy was wearing his large pads. Were you scoring goals against Patrick Roy?
  16. Fatenberg is this year’s Luke Schenn. Can play up and down the lineup. At only $850k he is one of the better bargains on the team.
  17. Gretzky had 558 assists in his first 5 years. So he has some catching up to do.
  18. He does make the odd pass but that is not his game for the most part.
  19. McDavid is the anti-Gretzky. He is a me first player and uses his great talent unto himself. Gretzky was the exact opposite, he used every player on the ice to the team’s advantage and set up plays before the other team knew what was coming. Gretzky had the vision, anticipation and intelligence that no one else had. And he still managed to score almost 900 goals. But it was his set up play that put him above everybody else. McDavid simply takes the puck and tries to beat every player on the other team with his speed and skill. Absolutely great individual talent but he is not a team player at all.
