Miller is 30 and locked up for 7 years. We just traded for a soon to be 26-year-old top 4 RHD. Petey is almost 25 and looking to sign an 8-year extension and wants to win. Hughes has 4 years left and then is UFA. Our window may not be exactly this coming season, but at most it is 2 years away. Silovs isn't going to be leading this team during the beginning or our window. Demko is our goalie Bob, who were both trained by Ian Clark. If we are pulling a Florida Panthers it will be with Demko in net, not Silovs. Silovs is a great young piece who could eventually replace Demko if we decide to move on from him in 3 years.

(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
Elias Pettersson replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The NHL draft lottery chart shows the 19OA + the 35OA picks to be a higher value than the 11OA pick. This data clearly proves that, especially looking at the 2015 and 2016 drafts. You missed the 2016 draft where Jordan Kyrou was taken at 35OA. So, if you add the 35OA pick then you have wins for 19OA in 2015 and 2016 as well. So, it's 5 wins for 19OA and 3 wins for 11OA... -

If we make this Chicago trade then we would have the cap space to add Barbashev, which is the whole point of clearing cap. He's not really a 3C Joe, he's better on the wing. I would play him with Miller and Boeser. Barbashev would be a huge upgrade on Phil DiGiuseppe... -
(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft

2020: 11OA - Yaroslav Askarov 19OA - Braden Schneider 2017: 11OA - Gabriel Villardi 19OA - Josh Norris 2016: 11OA - Logan Brown 19OA - Kieffer Bellows 35OA - Jordan Kyrou 2015: 11OA - Lawson Crouse 19OA - Evgeny Svechnikov 35OA - Sebastian Aho 2009: 11OA - Ryan Ellis 19OA - Chris Kreider 2003: 11OA - Jeff Carter 19OA - Ryan Getzlaf It doesn't happen very often, but it does happen on occasion where the 19OA pick turns out better than the 11OA pick. Also, there have been some occasions where if you add the 35OA pick to the 19OA pick then the trade becomes lopsided in favour of the trade. 2015 and 2016 are 2 years in a row whereby if you had the 19OA + the 35OA picks you would have been way better off than if you had kept the 11OA pick... -
(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
Elias Pettersson replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The upcoming draft is always supposed to be the THE draft where you get the star player. Happens every year. It's all just a promotion and hype for the draft itself. At the end of the day the guy we pick at 11OA may be a 3rd or 4th liner in the NHL, or never play in the NHL at all... -
(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft

This is true. However, if you add the 35OA to the equation then you have 2 shots to get an NHL player. There have been lots of 11OA players that have not even made the NHL. Podkolzin was drafted 10OA in 2019 and still does not have a full time NHL job 4 years after being drafted. -

(Rumour) Canucks Blackhawks at the draft
Elias Pettersson replied to Baratheon's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
You are not crazy. That is equal value according to the NHL draft value chart. It’s actually a little bit in our favour. 11OA = 338.98 points 19OA = 237.96 points 35OA = 116.07 points So 19OA + 35OA = 354.03 points. So if we are trading the 11OA for the 19OA + the 35OA it’s already a good trade for Vancouver. If Vancouver can add a couple of cap dumps to the deal to free up $9-10 million in cap space so we can sign Barbashev/Gavrikov it’s a home run trade and something we should seriously consider. It’s the least painful way of dumping contracts. Some are getting too emotional with the 11OA pick thinking we are going to lose out on a star player. But the previous drafts show that star players have also been picked with the 19OA pick. Plus we get a 2nd shot at 35OA to get a really good player as well. https://soundofhockey.com/2022/06/06/examining-the-value-of-nhl-draft-picks/amp/ -

11OA - Kopitar, Forsberg 19OA - Vasilevskiy, Getzlaf Is there much of a dropoff, if any, with these guys? Sure, there are more hits at 11OA, but if you add that 35OA pick to the package then you have 2 shots to get an impact player. FYI, Sebastian Aho, the Carolina Aho, was picked 35OA... -
To Toronto: Quinton Byfield Brant Clarke Alex Iafallo Sean Walker Cal Petersen To LA: Auston Matthews Fiala Matthews Villardi Kempe Kopitar Arvidsson Moore Danault Kaliyev Grundstrom Kupari MacEwen Anderson-Dolan/Lizotte Anderson Doughty Gavrikov Roy Edler Durzi ??? ??? ??? Copley Richards (Buyout) This lineup puts them at just under $83.5 million with the Matthews trade and re-signing Gavrikov at $5.5 million. So, they would need to get a couple more minimum salaried Dmen and a goalie. They probably would need to search for a goalie at around $2 million. It would be tight, and one more move would need to be made, but it is possible for a Matthews trade to LA to work. Martin Jones, Antti Raanta, Adin Hill, Cam Talbot, Frederik Andersson and and Semyon Varlamov would all be available via UFA. I am sure one of these goalies could be had for $2 million...

(Rumour) 4 teams interested in J.T. Miller
Elias Pettersson replied to combover's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They wouldn’t be trading Leo Carlsson for Demko. And they have several young Dmen on the roster. They just drafted David Jiricek last ytar with a top 6 pick. The team only guy they would want is Petey in return for that pick which helps them get a superstar centre right away versus waiting 3-4 years for Carlsson to develop into a similar player to Petey. -
Aquilini was livid that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk
Elias Pettersson replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Do you really think Florida beats Carolina without goalie Bob? IMO, if you took goalie Bob out of the equation Carolina wins this series easily. Carolina has 135 shots in the series and only 3 goals. Even so they still went to two overtime games. Tkachuk is playing great but he’s not even the leading scorer of the guys still remaining in the playoffs. Pretty sure goalie Bob easily wins the Conn Smythe if Florida wins it all. -
11th overall pick in the 2023 Entry Draft
Elias Pettersson replied to KyGuy123's topic in Canucks Talk
Benning traded the 9OA pick and a 2nd as well and got no draft picks back. In this scenario we are actually getting a 1st and a 2nd back. If you look at the NHL draft value chart, the 11OA is equivalent to the 19OA + 35OA. So draft pick wise it’s a fair deal. Throw in $15 million in cap dumps and the deal actually favours Vancouver. Chicago can probably trade Beauvillier at the deadline for a 2nd or a 3rd so they get that pick back. Pearson and Garland are most likely on LTIR so it helps Chicago reach the cap floor without having to spend real dollars. And Garland gives them a player with some term who can actually play on the team for a few years. People are saying this is a Benning type move which is not true. We are clearing cap AND getting picks back in return. With the $15 million in cap space it allows us to add all of the pieces we need to make the playoffs next season and be competitive plus we still have a 1st round pick plus added a 2nd round pick as well. This type of trade is probably the least painful way of shedding millions in cap space. Much much better than just attaching sweeteners or trading the 11OA outright. -
Aquilini was livid that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk
Elias Pettersson replied to -DLC-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Yes, you could be right. We could have Petey, Tkachuk and Hughes on the team right now. But most likely, Tkachuk forces a trade with Vancouver as well, as he wanted to play in the US. So, the question becomes what package would we have gotten for Tkachuk? Would we have traded him to Florida for Huberdeau and Weegar? -

Petey is not a minion. He’s 6’2” and plays bigger than his weight class. Plus he’s a top defensive forward and kills penalties. He’s a perfect 1C for the playoffs, even better than Barkov. Tkachuk is great too but if it’s close I would always take the centre over the winger… -
If we could trade Garland and Beauviller and replace them with Barbashev I’d be all over that. He’s been a beast in the playoffs and is a Gold Star client, so he could replace Kravtsov in the lineup. Ship Garland and Beauviller to Chicago and switch 11OA for 19OA and Chicago adds a 2nd round pick as well and I’d do that deal. If they take Tucker Poolman as well then it’s a home run trade…

I'm sure he was happy when they drafted Petey and Hughes the following two years. At the end of the day, we probably aren't getting Petey if Tkachuk is in the lineup in the 2016-2017 season...- 161 replies

The BC Real Estate Discussion Thread
Elias Pettersson replied to Harvey Spector's topic in Off-Topic General
Yes, I agree. $800k in the city is probably fantasy, but if you can get a fourplex unit in the suburbs for $800k then that should work for most people. Alot of people are working from home now, so the need to live right in the heart of the city has diminished. And for those that want to stay in the city, at $1.1 million they could probably squeeze that if interest rates dropped a bit. Single family home builders would also get really busy all of a sudden building fourplexes, which would help with construction jobs and the economy as a whole. I am surprised they didn't plan this 10-15 years ago. It's a shame really. We could have had thousands of these smaller homes already on the market and in the inventory cycle. The government was too worried about foreign buyers 10 years ago, thinking if you stopped them from buying it would fix the mess. They were wrong. Ultimately, fixing this mess is by building more multifamily homes, thousands of them... -
11th overall pick in the 2023 Entry Draft
Elias Pettersson replied to KyGuy123's topic in Canucks Talk
Sure, but we get rid of them all in one fell swoop, open up $15 million in cap space and all of a sudden we can go shopping for free agents. Graves, Gavrikov, Schenn, Barbashev, a 3C somewhere.
