  1. You knew his mouth would eventually get him into trouble. I'm surprised it took this long really...
  2. Tanev is having a career year, no games missed and on pace for over 20 points. I guess his contract must be up. He could cash in big. He could fetch a 1st round pick at the trade deadline as a rental. If we are out of the playoff hunt it's a no brainer you trade him. However, if we have playoff aspirations then he will definitely be needed come playoff time.
  3. Tom Sestito also has NHL experience...
  4. I would trade Stecher and package him with Demko to get a top 6 forward. Problem is Demko is out with a concussion. With Leivo out for a long time and Ferland on LTIR we are going to have to watch Loui do his thing, which is nothing, every game here on out. That's going to be painful. Meanwhile we have an offensive dynamo in Utica who can help us win games.
  5. He should be called up right now and playing tonight against Edmonton. He's 24 and our 2nd best offensive defenceman right now behind Hughes. No reason at all he shouldn't be playing in the NHL. He's toying with the AHL players right now.
  6. Close your eyes. Then imagine having a 6’7” 260 pound defenceman who can literally pick players up and throw them to the ice. Imagine if he could rag doll guys that are 240 pounds. Imagine if he could skate as well as most of our forwards. Imagine if he has a blazing shot from the point. Imagine if he plays better on the smaller ice surface because of his size. Imagine if he is a bigger and better version of Nikita Zadorov. Then open your eyes. And here he is. In a Vancouver uniform, playing with Quinn Hughes. And his name is Nikita Tryamkin.
  7. That's a very good point. We've played year after year for long stretches without Tanev but people want to al of a sudden sign him to a long term deal at age 30 because he is playing well this year. Myers has a lot to do with Tanev playing better and not getting injured as Myers has taken up a lot of the big minutes that Tanev would normally have played this year. So that is why it is safer to let go of Tanev next year versus in prior years as we have Myers now who can play big minutes on the right side.
  8. It's a gamble with Tryamkin but you have to take the gamble at this point. If you keep Tanev around long term it disrupts the cap and it also takes a spot away from a young prospect. We had this issue last year with Edler, luckily he only signed for 2 years and we ended up needing him as Juolevi went down with another injury. I don't think Tanev is going to re-sign for only 2 years, that is the main problem as he is only 30 years old and this will most likely be his last contract, so he will go for the big payday. If Tryamkin comes back and Juolevi doesn't get injured again and Brisebois and Rafferty keep improving then we are in better shape next year to lose a veteran then we would have been this year. Plus Fatenberg looks like a player you can keep around and move up and down the lineup so re-signing him will be a lot cheaper and give us even more depth for next year. In terms of a backup for Marky, if you trade Demko most likely the other team will want to send a goalie the other way so it would have to be a package deal where we get a goalie in return in the deal who can be a stopgap until DiPietro is ready. It's not that I want to trade Demko but if Marky signs long term here which I think he will then I'm sure Demko would want to move on and we need to get something of quality back, so packaging him with Stecher and maybe another prospect to get a top 6 forward makes sense as Leivo will most likely be gone next year and Ferland may still be on LTIR so there will be an opening in the top 6 that will need to be filled.
  9. Edler is almost 4 years older than Tanev. Completely different scenario. Anton Stralman who was 32 last summer got a 3 year $5.5 million deal from Florida after only playing 47 games last year. Tanev is better than Stralman. And he’s only 30. You are kidding yourself if you think Tanev will only get a 2 year deal at the same pay he is getting now next summer as a UFA.
  10. Edler Myers Hughes Tryamkin Benn Rafferty Fatenberg I don’t know whether that would be better than what we have now but it would certainly be cheaper and allow us to get a top 6 forward to play with BO.
  11. Unfortunately the Canucks don’t control what Tanev will get as he is a UFA. He’s 4 years younger than Edler so the term he gets will certainly be more than 2 years. I can see a team offering him similar numbers to what Myers got. I could be wrong but that is what I see and the Canucks won’t play ball at those numbers.
  12. You really need to look at Cap Friendly closely. It shows half our cap is available in 21-22 but with only 8 contracts signed.
  13. Not sure what site you are looking at but Cap Friendly shows us right at the cap without re-signing Tanev or Stecher, and replacing them with cheaper contracts like Tryamkin and Rafferty. I added a few million to account for the re-signing of Marky, Gaudette, Virtanen and Motte. I even sent Loui and Baer down to the minors and took $2 million off of their salaries. If we were to shed Loui's salary completely then that is the money for Tanev. Likewise with Baertschi then that is the money for Stecher.
  14. Virtanen will be getting a big raise. If he hits over 20 goals he could get close otrto $3 million. Petey is going to get Marner money. Hughes will get whatever Makar gets. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets over $5 million. As for Mary do you honestly think he is going to sign for $3.6 million as a UFA? Seriously? Marky is getting paid. Either Benning pays him or somebody else will. It will be closer to $6 million than it will be to $3.6 million.
  15. Like I already mentioned go through Cap Friendly, the numbers don't add up. Only way to keep Tanev around is if Loui retires and we keep Ferland on LTIR.
  16. What about Markstrom, Virtanen, Gaudette and Motte? They need new contracts next year. Like I said go through the numbers, it doesn't add up. Plus you are looking at $16-18 million to re-sign Petey and Quinn. That money will easily be eaten up by Baertschi, Sutter, Edler, Spooner, Pearson and Benn. Plus you have several bodies you have to replace with cheaper contracts. So add another $4-5 million to that number. Like I said it doesn't add up. The only way we can re-sign Tanev is if Loui retires and we clear his $6 million and Ferland is on LTIR for another year...
  17. I went through Cap Friendly and I don't see any scenario where we can keep Tanev at $5-6 million for upwards of 5 years. Unless we somehow get rid of Loui, Baertschi and Sutter next year, which isn't gonna happen. Plus we need their cap space to re-sign Marky, Petey and Quinn. The numbers just don't add up. We need to replace Tanev and eventually Edler with our cheaper young prospects and integrate them into the roster. It is the only way for us to be cap compliant and the only way for future success.
  18. I think collectively Tryamkin, Brisebois and Rafferty can replace both Tanev and Stecher. We don't have the cap space to keep Tanev and Stecher, which would cost us upwards of $9 million next year. Rafferty at $700k is already better than Stecher offensively, he just needs to work on his defensive game. We also have the option to re-sign Fatenberg, so Rafferty could in essence be our 7th D and you play Benn on the right side with Fatenberg next year. Rafferty comes in and out of the lineup to provide offence. That can make up for losing Tanev. And it would be a lot cheaper to re-sign Fatenberg than Tanev. As a matter of fact, Fatenberg, Tryamkin, Rafferty and Brisbois combined would be less of a cap hit than keeping Tanev. At the end of the day if we can turn Demko and Stecher + into a top 6 forward and integrate our younger D into the lineup to replace Tanev and Stecher and eventually Edler and Benn then that is the long term plan for Benning and the right one for future success as it would eliminate any cap issues and it would get all our young prospects into the lineup.
  19. Yes as long as he signs a contract and is one of our 50 contracts after the trade deadline he can come over and play anytime. I believe his season ends before the playoffs begin unless Avto go all the way to the finals, so there is a good chance he will be on our roster this year. I think both Tryamkin and Benning want to make that happen, I don't see any reason why Tryamkin would want to continue to play in Russia when he can make so much more money here in the NHL. The issues have been resolved by now I think, CHL Willy is gone, we have room on defence to fit him in. No reason they can't get a deal done to bring him back.
  20. Leivo is a UFA so he will shop his services around. We could re-sign him but we have the option to upgrade if possible. Ferland is currently on LTIR. Nobody knows when he will be back. It could be this year, it could be next year. If he does come back how will he play? Will he be able to contribute full time in a top 6 role or will he be a role player who can slide up and down the lineup when healthy? I don't think the Canucks can rely on Ferland at this point to be a full time starter. One more head shot and he could retire. Best to make use of some of our younger assets to get a legit top 6 winger.
