Proposal - Canucks - Flames
Elias Pettersson replied to kenhodgejr's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I wouldn't be interested in Weegar. He's already 29 and now locked up for 8 years. I like Andersson and Hanifin and even Zadorov, who would work well on the 3rd pairing with Myers. The twin towers. -
If the cap goes up to $86.5 million, then they could fit Matthews by unloading Petersen, which frees up $5 million. So, they'd have over $15.5 million in cap space at $86.5 million with 17 players signed. Add Matthews and they would have around $4 million in cap space with 18 players signed. They would have to move one more player to make it work. Most likely Iafallo, Moore or Arvidsson. They could send one of these players to Toronto. Then they could go after a goalie. Not sure they would have enough money to sign Gavrikov, but most likely they could get Villardi signed. In terms of re-signing Kopitar to an extension, LA would have $40 million+ in cap space in 2024 minus the Matthews contract, so they should have enough to get him done maybe at $6-7 million. I doubt they would pay more than that for a 36-year-old Kopitar. Matthews would be their #1 centre, so Kopitar is now their #2 and Danault #3. It wouldn't be easy, but if Matthews agrees to go to LA I can see them wanting to do this deal. At 25, Matthews can be the new face of LA hockey for the next decade...

The BC Real Estate Discussion Thread

All single family lots will become multi-family lots in Vancouver as early as 2024... https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vancouver-multiplex-single-family-zoning-rs-proposal City of Vancouver proposes allowing multiplexes for all single-family neighbourhood zoning They are even looking at doing it across all municipalities... https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/bc-single-family-lots-secondary-suites-densification-policy Up to four homes to be allowed on single-family lots across British Columbia With this new legislation, they could build smaller units that would drop the price from $1.55 million to around $1.1 million... Based on the City’s calculation using conventional input costs and average rates, a fourplex unit would carry a $1.1 million estimated purchase cost, with 39% of the house cost, $221,000 for the 20% down payment, and a combined household income requirement of $235,000 annually. This fourplex unit scenario on a lot is comparatively more affordable than a duplex unit with an estimated $1.55 million purchase cost, and with 55% of the house cost per unit, $310,000 down payment, and an income requirement of $326,000. Single-family houses are, of course, even more out of reach, with an estimated $2.82 million estimated purchase cost, and 100% of the house cost per unit, $563,640 down payment, and $586,000 for income required. The densification would apply to all single-family zoning across Vancouver to ensure the policy is simple to understand for both builders and City staff reviewing applications, eliminating a major source for confusion. This distribution also better enables building opportunities, and the management of the impacts to utilities. This is still unaffordable for the average family, but if they could get builders to build out thousands of these new smaller units then there is the potential to get the price even lower than $1.1 million. $800k I think is the sweet spot IMO. This way, young families don't have to rely on buying a 2-bedroom condo in a high-rise in order to get into the market. -
Yes, I don't think LA would trade their two top prospects without an extension in place. LA doesn't have a 2023 1st so they could make it a 2024 1st. Which wouldn't be a huge difference with the 2023 2nd. LA with Matthews could win the Western Conference next season... EDIT: LA would have to dumperoo Cal Petersen to make the cap work. So TO would have to take his contract back. So maybe the 2024 1st and TO gets Petersen as well in return. With Kopitar coming off the books in 2024 that would be perfect for LA when Matthews extension kicks in...

Yzerman didn’t want to pay Hronek and wasn’t going to re-sign him to an extension. So when Allvin found out about this he went after Hronek, a player he had been following for over a year. Yzerman wanted picks so we had the NYI pick we could dangle for him. No way we were going to trade our pick as it was a lottery pick. So we threw in a 2nd as well and got a 4th back. We paid less for Hronek than Philly paid for Ristolainen. Hronek is a borderline top pairing RHD and is only 25. It was a great trade for us really. The chances of us getting an equivalent type player with the NYI pick is very small.

https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2023/03/red-wings-steve-yzerman-says-selling-most-viable-option-stresses-patience.html?outputType=amp DETROIT – For the first time in Steve Yzerman’s four seasons as Detroit Red Wings general manager, his team was on the fringes of the playoff chase as the trade deadline approached, and he had a decision – stand pat or sell. He traded key players Tyler Bertuzzi and Filip Hronek for draft picks and got rid of Jakub Vrana for what he could get. Continuing to build for the future was more important than keeping the group intact and seeing what might happen down the stretch. Yzerman explained his rationale on Friday, shortly after the trade deadline. “We traded the guys we couldn’t sign or for whatever reason weren’t going to sign,” Yzerman said on his media Zoom call. “So, I say to our fanbase, I understand the frustration and disappointment. But if our ultimate goal is to compete with the best teams in the league, this is what I’m doing, and if it doesn’t work out, it’s on me.”

Hronek is 35th among all Dmen (222 listed) in on ice expected GA per 60 minutes. He's ahead of Jacob Slavin and Hampus Lindholm. Quinn Hughes is 49th so in the upper 20% of all Dmen... NHL Player Statistics -Advanced Stats (moneypuck.com) Hronek is not average defensively, he is above average and is also a very good offensive Dmen with a great shot. He can play in all situations. Also, as previously stated he did not receive a concussion after the Reaves hit, he played the next game, which shows his toughness as well. Yzerman got rid of Hronek because he did not want to pay him...

@Dazzle I used to like you as a poster. We even played poker together years ago. What happened to you? I am seriously concerned to be honest... -

Elias Pettersson replied to DefCon1's topic in Canucks Talk
In all fairness to Benning, he and his scouts drafted McCann and Forsling. He then signed Stecher, Tanev and Chatfield out of college or as free agents. So the work was done. For whatever reason, he and his team decided to move on from them. Lesson to be learned here regardless who the GM is. Keep these guys in the AHL for as long as you can. You just never know. This is why I don't want Hoglander to be traded. I don't want him to turn into a 25-30 goal scorer with another team. Even Rathbone I am not inclined to move, if they can keep him as a 7/8 Dman next year and play Hirose in Abby that would be a better situation for now and then re-evaluate after a year... -

Who here is actually happy with the Hronek trade?
Elias Pettersson replied to Odd.'s topic in Canucks Talk
You have to go back to the Brian Burke and Pat Quinn years.
