There isn't a trophy for the best defensive defensemen, that doesn't mean a defensive defenseman isn't important still

Jordan Kyrou, Torey Krug, Patrick Kane, Alex Ovechkin, Ryan O'Reilly are all in the bottom 10 for plus minus. every single GM in the league would take any of those players, plus minus has to be one of the worst stats to use to compare players. You say the deal is costly, Sam Reinhart is the best comparable for Boeser contract wise, both make the same AAV, Both have 14 points this year, Boeser has it in 6 less games on a worse team. I get you don't like Boeser however the rest of the league does, management had a chance at fixing the blue line with brining in Marino but they blew it because they overvalued Rathbone
