  1. JB better offer sheet Kasperi Kapenen. He's the winger Petey needs.

Up to 4.059 mil a second round pick

Up to 6.088 mil a first and a third. - Trade Sutter, Goldy and Prospect for a team likely to have a late first an get that extra first rounder - so we can bid up if needed and not give up our first

Leafs probably won't even be able to afford 4 mil for him and he's going to get 25 goals minimum this year. They are screwed.

      Damn they're screwed

    3. King Heffy

      King Heffy

If he's retiring anyway then why would he care.

    4. Brad Marchand

      Brad Marchand

Mostly because I doubt Marleau would want to retire now. He seems to like being in Toronto, is getting paid handsomely, and is on a team that has a decent chance of winning the Cup next year, even with the moves they'd have to make to become cap compliant. Not to mention he's still capable of playing.

Only way I'd see him retiring this year is if he won the Cup.

  2. One of the best critiques of JB I've seen. All GM's however, have some wins and some losses. I can't disagree with a word you've said here other than we need to now wait and see. Much like people screamed when we traded a 2nd for Baer, or complained about the Shinkaruk trade etc, the only thing we can do is wait and see. Again, I can't disagree with anything here, and actually think JB on the whole has shown the weakest aspect of his abilities is trading. As such, getting more picks is smarter, given drafting is a strength, but in a league where picks are getting harder to get, who's to say picks were available for either Dhalen or Guddy. As for Karlsson, apparently he was someone we wanted in the draft, so we've scouted him - if our scouts (especially Gradin and he would have been the one given he's our Swedish and Lead European scout) liked him, that says alot to me (Gradin has shown he knows how to find talent). Karlsson's numbers may not be as impressive as Dhalen's but if you look at his advanced stats, they are off the charts, and Dhalen clearly wasn't happy being 'coached' to play the way Vancouver wanted (ie he requested a trade). I think sometimes fans here expect every deal we make is going to be based on 'our' view of a player, and not the reality of the player and their true market value. Guddy was not getting us more than a 4th round pick the way he was playing. His play fell off a cliff, when that happens all you can do is try to correct/salvage it. Pearson has talent, he may fit in nicely, he may not. Let's see how he works out. His cap hit means nothing, we have more than enough cap room.
  3. Funny hey? We seemed to think Nucks robbed Ottawa and SJ for Dhalen and Goldy when the trades happened, yet Ottawa and SJ clearly had a reason to let them go for very aging players....now we see the warts that were not so obvious.
  4. Your wife isn't paying you to play hockey. If you're a pro, and you're not doing the things the coach asks of you to IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF BEING AN NHL PLAYER and contributing to the team, what do you expect the coach to say? Do you expect him to stroke the kids ego and make him feel like he's a wonderful little guy and give him some cookies? No, Cull's job is to find the weaknesses in the kids game, improve them, and at the same time help him build on his strengths. If a player is unwilling to work on those weaknesses he won't be a NHL player. Cull isn't out to get him bro, he's there to improve his play because if he does A) Utica does well b) he looks good because Utica is winning (even better because it helps him!) C) Dhalen can take the next step and become a full time NHLer. Clearly, Dhalen felt he was better than he is showing.
  5. Based on that logic yes, but step back and think of the precedent it sets. Player "a" not ready in the eyes of the team, player "a" complains and thinks he is and should be up in the bigs. If not called up wants to be traded. I don't think the Nucks could do anything but trade him. Every player 'believes' they are ready, most aren't. You have to earn your way up. If he indeed demanded a trade at this point (given he's only shown about 20 games worth of AHL level good talent), probably not the character you want in your group. You can't succumb to an entitlement attitude
  6. Some scouting reports on him here https://dobberprospects.com/player/linus-karlsson/ https://canucksarmy.com/2018/05/25/canucksarmys-2018-nhl-draft-profiles-81-linus-karlsson/
  7. I don't like the trade because of what I know of the chemistry of Dhalen and Petey but.... A. I trust Benning B. I trust or scouts and in particular our Swedish scouts and Gradin who would have had a hand in this, we've been quite good at spotting Swedish talent from Ohlund, to Nazzy, to Petey C. If we moved him after a pretty nice run in the AHL, there must be (as many are saying here, something in his game that JB and team think won't translate well to the NHL, like Shinkaruk). Trusting JB on this...we shall see how it works out, I know nothing of this guy we got.
  8. It might actually improve our Blue Line by giving a young player some ice. Guddy was playing awful here, its just reality. I hope he plays well in Pitts, but for whatever reason he never was a good fit here. He's a better player than he showed but it was time to move on. I hope this means we're going hard after Myers in the offseason and trying to get Try back sooner as well.
  9. Like this deal. Pearson is a gritty player, size, and plays LW. Didn't find his game in pittsburgh but was a solid player in LA. Hopefully being on Bo or Petey's wing he finds it again. Addition by subtraction by removing Guddy for sure
  10. Looked at a couple of sites and the Nucks, based on probabilities have a 7-11% chance of making the playoffs. Inversely, they have an 89-93% of NOT making the playoffs. JB needs to realize this year is done and accept he needs to make trades to improve this team long term. The rebuild is not done by any means, and playing .500 hockey and thinking you're close is idiocy I'm sorry. And I am a supporter of JB.

So you think they should be concerned about selling tickets for ten games (which would be walk ups only at this stage), vs looking to improve for the future? What kind of ridiculous nonsensical point is this? Is that how the team should make decisions? Really? As for whom, elder is skating, Tanev is not out for the season, gudbranson. This idea that many on here keep parroting about “injured players can’t be traded” is false. None of the names above are out long term / out for the season / playoffs. Injured players are easily traded for full value - they simply need the other team medical specialists to confirm the injuries are minor.

i'm merely pointing out that there is a business context to this all

      and guess what

aquaman does really care about the bottom line

      it's his money at stake

      not yours

      1. Aquilini is not a dumb business man

      2.  The amount of sales from walk ups for 10 games doesn’t mean anything to him.

      3. The vast majority of revenue is already booked given season tickets and tickets already sold

the basis of your comment doesn’t hold water, decisions are not being based on the peanuts from ten games of walk ups.

  11. Terrific numbers for any player in the NCAA, let alone a rookie. JB/Brackett seem to have another steal
  12. Very much a sellers market going into the trade deadline. As much as it would suck to lose Edler, I think JB has to do it. Prices are ridiculously, and give the arm race that has started, will only go higher into monday.

  13. Close to $7 mil is not that bad for Myers. He has more offensive upside than he's shown, and our lack of RD is such a big issue its worth giving him a premium. Really (given cap inflation) he's worth around 6 mil x7 so a bit more per year to drastically alter our RD is worth it. He also has a very heavy shot so can play PP. He was expected to be a very strong 2 way dman until the peg got Trouba and he moved down to 3RD behind Buff and him. He's really a big part of what this team needs IMHO. I've said this a few times, use money people want to spend on Karlsson for Myers ($7) and Ferland ($5.5) and our team changes dramatically
  14. Agree on both but he doesn't have to fight, just hit, which he can and does....he can be as impactful if he wants and should be more, as you say he has way more natural skill. He doesn't need to be bertuzzi to have a major impact on this team, hope he continues to progress when he comes back and next year. He needs to start 'imposing' his will on other teams....that's the next step and I think that is more confidence than anything
  15. Tom Wilson ran roughshod over the leafs today, Virtanen can be as valuable as Wilson and probably better. I hope he can find a way to become as effective.
  16. If I were him I'd do it. Edmonton has a bad reputation now. It was a bad enough city to play in, but winning McJesus had players around the league excited and open to the idea. Now their clusterfack from management through will make players avoid it. Hell they are worse than dealing with the Ottawa issues and who wants to go there, players want out.
  17. Some seem to think checking on interest in the League for Edler, Sutter, Guddy, or Tanev is tanking. But its wise asset management. If Colorado can move a 25/26 yr old Duchense and get through it (and come out with what looks like first over all and make the playoffs), it shows this idea of moving one or two players is not going to kill us, and moreover it can potentially really help. We are not a playoff team in a normal year, players who will be available for the playoffs can be moved even if injured. JB needs to move Sutter and one of the Dmen for picks and prospects IMHO. Alot of teams given coming cap issues are 'going for it this year - it will be a sellers market, we need to take adv of that.

Don’t think many teams are going to want to give fair value for players on IR right now but that’s just me.

  18. Yep, he was also questioning management's expected decision to hold Vlad Jr out for 12 games (I believe its 12) to retain a year of his contract. Any team would do this, its also a business, and just as the Nucks shouldn't play Hughes more than 9 games this year, it makes sense. But when asked he said something to the effect of 'do you guys want to see him opening day? do you think the fans do?" - clearly a shot at management. The guy is not team first whatever he says, too much ego for not enough production. Thinks he's better than he's proven
  19. If you make it out, would love to see your thoughts on him here! cheers
  20. Woo missed a bunch of games in his draft year 20+ due to injury but still beat his offensive output from the year before. When he came back from injury he was placed in a very defensive oriented/shut down role so his offense wasn't really on display. He would have put up decent numbers in his draft year had he been healthy and had that role. I have said in the past he has Bieksa upside offensively, with a better defensive game. He is indeed a steal (don't forget he got an invite to the WJ team camp so he's considered one of the top Dmen his age in Canada, no small feat)....Many friends thought my comparison was absurd, I think his numbers and play this year are showing that potential is actually there.
  21. I love what JB has done so far rebuilding this team, but his comments that he's not trading for futures at the deadline is concerning. This team is 1 game under .500 and as of today 25th in a 31 team league, and only 5 pts (if LA wins the game in hand) from 2nd to last and 5 wins ahead of being in last place in the entire league. I believe he may be thinking, with one more year this team will be 'good enough' to start turning the corner. He may be being blinded by the fact they are close to a playoff position (and ignoring how close we are to the bottom), but being this close to the playoffs is an aberration, the West is very weak this year. Being a few games over .500 is not a playoff team historically. I understand his desire to let the boys fight to make it in, but he also has to be objective and think longer term than just this year. I love this team, but we still have many holes and many players who will not be part of the long term solution / won't be here when we are ready. Not being a seller is repeating past mistakes. I am not saying tank, but you have to be open to moving players that may have value around the league if they aren't going to be part of the long term solution. If he doesn't try, I will give the JB bashers a point this year.

Who exactly could we trade for future assets (picks/prospects) that is healthy though??

You can move players who are injured, as long as it’s not long term and a team is willing to have the player medically assessed by the other teams doctors to confirm. The guys we can move should be ready well before the playoffs

    4. coastal.view

you are really reaching in your desire to trade players don't you think?

what team would actually give us assets for injured players

in hopes they will be ready for the playoffs

when other teams can offer them non injured players?

this is getting a little surreal in my view

  22. They do tend to meet the parents and get an idea of how big the kid will grow but at the end of the day, talent and character drive the decision. No two players are identical so it would never occur. You just have to make a bet if they're close on who you think plays the best game to translate to the NHL (think how they determined Shinkaruk didn't play a game that would translate), and who has the drive and will to compete and get better every day. That's the trick of scouting, its projecting talent and understanding personality....the latter is why JB is so high on character and his picks all show a hunger and drive to be the best they can be. Trust in JB and Bracket
  23. I think they also want to let the young guys have 'their time and their team now'. Its also about letting go of the reigns and saying to Bo, Petey, Boeser, this is your team now, not ours.....by keeping their distance, you don't step on toes and allow those young guys to assume the leadership roles. I suspect in a year or two they will be around more.
