2022-23 Abbotsford Canucks Thread
Boudrias replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
Abby knocked the Oiler AHL team out and now move on to the Flames. Prediction: Abby in 4 games. MVP Wolanin. -
You bring Schenn back as a theoretical 3RD and then who do you sit for the 15 minutes of TOI he would burn? When I say that I am assuming Bear is 1RD and Honrek is 2RD. I question whether Bear is a top 4 d-man but many think he is. A resigned Schenn would bump Burroughs and squeeze out Juulson and Woo. We don't know what deals will happen this summer or who Allvin ends up drafting. It will be interesting.

I admire Musk's drive and ambition. Nobody is perfect and a some of the parts might have value. Man exploring space could easily save our species. If I am defensive about Musk then why is that any less a valid process than those who attack him from a different perspective? I believe Virgin Galactic has declared bankruptcy?

It was the Winnipeg Moose that found Alex Burrows for us. Forever thankful for that. -
If it wasn't SpaceX which is owned by Elon Musk this conversation wouldn't be happening. Musk popularity has nose dived since he started criticizing the progressives. When SpaceX had multiple failures landing their booster rockets on ocean platforms it generated mild interest. Does this 'failure' mean anything when it comes to SpaceX? I doubt it. Back to the drawing board with revised planning and launces. Did Apollo and the Shuttle programs have failures? Of course they did. Bottom line is that in its short history SpaceX has become a mainstay in the American space program.

If the Canucks are out then I can cheer for the Oilers or Jets. Never for the Laffers. Oilers coming back to win is huge for them. #27 was a killer out there. Finally Kane came thru as he has been playing pretty decent hockey. If I am a Oiler fan two players who would worry me are Nurse and Yakamoto (?). Darnell Nurse is a 3 or 4 d-man but he makes a lot of mistakes on his coverages. Top that with how much he is paid. Yikes. How will the Canucks ever sign Garrikov away from LA the way he is playing? Maybe the Russian contingent in Vancouver will sway him?

My gut tells me that PA has already decided that BB will move on. Your take on why he played where he did and for the TOI he did is bang on. I like BB's size but he doesn't use it enough or effectively enough when he does. If Allvin can get a 2nd rdr and a prospect I think he will pull the trigger. I don't like to say it but Garland is not big enough to keep him over the long term. He does drive play and should be tradeable. Both BB and Garland free up CAP space. I expect Boeser to go this summer but Garland might be a TDL based on who shines coming out of camp. Beauvillier has ?? around him. He played well with Petey, has a great shot and does engage. Maybe another aspect is that he is a fresh face and if culture change is important he stays.

We can't look at his rookie season without smiling. He has really had a great season. Top scoring WHL player to the AHL without a hiccup.

Hopefully that 3 game series to end the season sets Abby up for a winning series. Flames had already sent those players they had papered down for that series. Abby didn't have Wolanin or Juulson at that time. Hopefully Podz gets into the fray. -
[Report/Rumour] Elias Pettersson Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Petey has a strong World's it will influence how big his new contract. Totally agree with your take on how management should approach valuing his worth. The other aside would be that Petey wants to win a Cup. Many examples of where growing teams are capped out by huge contracts to a selected few. It might temper his ask. IMHO Canucks have to start with the Miller contract and build from there. CAP grows by $1 mil next year and suggestions of $5 mil the year after. Still rumours of a one time contract buyout across the league to help with CAP compliance. Of course that talk is from the richer clubs who have already overspent. They do have influence. Strong teams spread across the NHL do drive revenue so I don't rule it out. I suggest those teams who do not exercise such a 'buyout' should get a lottery ticket on a supplemental 2 nd round draft bonus. Yup, teams could have 2 picks in the 2nd round as compensation for being CAP compliant. -
IMHO the Oilers have outplayed LA in every game. Losing in OT should focus them. My observation does not make me a Oiler fan. But if I have to cheer between LA or the Oilers I pick the Oilers. If the Oilers win the series and go up against the Jets then I will be cheering for the Jets. Life is simple. Bottom line is that Abby knocked out the Oilers AHL team and move on to the 2nd round. Go Abby! Go Hogs!

He won't have much choice. If management thinks AHL time will help his game but he refuses then they will probably cut him loose. He is on a roster where Kuzmenko has been sat for poor d-side play, Podz has gone to the AHL and then returned and Klim is having great success in Abby as he rounds out his game. Kratsov knows all this stuff. His options are narrowing. If Tocchet doesn't think he is in good enough shape then he had better show different come September. If he isn't in shape by September he might not even get an Abby option.

Will the KHL be in business next winter? That reality might weigh on any decisions.

I question the amount of $2 billion but if it is accurate then LNG Canada's app to double the throughput should get quick approval. IMHO the cost of not pursuing LNG and the resulting loss of tax revenue should be reviewed and publicized. There are 7 American LNG plants operating in Texas right now and they had none when LNG was first proposed on the West Coast. Another 2 USA plants are coming on stream late this year or early 2024. Some of these plants are being supplied with Canadian gas. Yes, the Germans are getting Canadian gas processed by Americans. The Americans are scooping much of the profit. There were 20 +/- LNG plants proposed in BC and 2 are being built. What could BC do with another $5 to $10 billion a year in tax revenue?

[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The UAF claims close to 200,000 Russians have been killed in the war. Who knows how many have been wounded? The number of Russians who have left the country to avoid the war goes as high as 400,000. Even in a country of 140 million these numbers are startling. The long range impact on Russian society will be enormous. -
Didn't the BC NDP government say a while back that they anticipated $2 billion per year from taxes on LNG Canada when it goes into production?
