I do wonder how profitable SpaceX is? $11.5 billion in revenue but the costs must be horrendous. My understanding is that Tesla is profitable and will likely sell 2 million cars this year. The Boring Company is more concept than actuality as the revenue is + $100 million. Musk's net worth is a culmination of the estimated enterprise value of his assets. What actual profit they generate is largely unknow. I believe he sold Tesla stock to raise money to but Twitter. I doubt people like Musk much care about how his attitudes are perceived. If he did he might never have left that farm in Saskatchewan. He obviously marches to a different drummer than the vast majority of people. Being who he is should not limit his right to express his opinions. If he is to far off base then his believeability factor will go down. Howard Hughes had some pretty bizarre beliefs. Henry Ford? The Koche Bros? Musk has said he will go to Mars on one of his Starships. 2030 deadline is coming fast.

The SpaceX Super Heavy is targeted for a lift payload of 100 - 150 tonnes on a fully reusable booster and capsule. This is a massive leap from existing capacity. That said the Chinese are already working on a comparable lift capacity. SpaceX is already making supply runs to the Space Station and launches satellites regularly. Their boosters are landing under control. SpaceX revenue estimates for 2023 is $11.5 billion. What SpaceX is doing is a very calculated effort by NASA to bring private enterprise into space. This program has been very successful. My brother-in-law works inside the Canadian space program. They were using Russian rockets to send their satellites up but now use SpaceX for the past 5 years or so. They have also used the French rockets. He was opposed to SpaceX because he did not want private companies to profit from space exploration but does not talk about that so much anymore. What is it about the human psyche that wants to denigrate successful people? Amazing that Musk was not attacked earlier in his career but as soon as he takes a few pot shots at progressives he has become Mr. Evil. Yes, he is the richest person in the world. He currently owns much of Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, Boring Company and Starlink. IMHO he is a genius, like him or not.

[Report/Rumour] Ethan Bear Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Bear going to the Worlds speaks volumes about the man. He has to sign a new contract and appears willing to show the Canucks what he can do on a world stage. Good on him. He aspires to be a top 4 d-man but I have him as a 3RD. He can move up to 2RD if needed during the regular season but I don't see that in Cup play. He is young enough that we likely have not seen him top out yet. Hurricanes didn't see enough to keep him? -
[Rumour] Nikita Tryamkin eyeing NHL return

There was a video clip yesterday that showed a line up in front of a Russian recruiting office that had to be 3 blocks long. Popular belief in the west that Russian youth don't support the war and are looking for anyway out. It appears the reality is opposite to that. -
I thought Aman had a great rookie season. A little time in Abby didn't hurt. He has good size and speed. IMHO his summer training will be an example of what Tocchet wants from his players. If Aman's board work improves he can compete for 3C at some point.

I am very familiar with Columbia Brewing in Creston. Bud Light and Kokanee now sell well above $2 a can. I was buying Bud Light in Maui for less than $1. When you sit on the USA border the temptation is to drop down for beer and gas + whatever else that is cheaper. As an aside. Creston produces both Bud Light and Bud. However the only production from the Creston Brewery that gets exported south is Kokanee. Why Anheuser Busch does not bring beer out of Creston is a mystery to me. Production cost in CDN $ which is much cheaper than USD $. Meanwhile investment in the Creston brewery is ongoing.

Hopefully PA can move some vets and pick up the 2nd rdr we traded.

I'll always give Jim Benning and his team full credit for drafting EP40. There were many 2nd guessers when they did that. Hoping Petey resigns this summer.

Direct access to Russia is very limited because of the boycott. Russians have to reroute through quasi neutral countries that still fly into Russia. The obvious risk for these players is being conscripted but there is also a risk of having their visas nixed while they are out of the country.

How the Hurricanes developed Chatfield speaks volumes to how well that team operates. Chatfield played many games at 10 - 12 minutes of TOI. Gradually they up his ice time. IMHO Woo has every bit as much potential as Chatfield and is much bigger. My hope is that they keep him in Abby until things shake out coming from the pre-season. Meyers is moved and PA picks up another top 4 right D or Johansson surprises out of camp. By December things should have shook out and Woo might get a crack. Bottom line is he is subject to waivers and if he is brought up it will be to stay.
-
I sure liked his game against T-Bay. I think his TOI was about 16 minutes. The Laffer d-side game will sink them. Bringing Schenn back doesn't make much sense considering his age and the need to spend his TOI on younger players. Chances are Luke will be retired by the time Vancouver contends in a serious way. Would want him hired to stay within the org after his playing days are done.

I hope Motter has a great playoffs. With his injury history I understood why management moved on. Little doubt that on the short term he would have helped but the team was already CAP constrained.

[Report/Rumour] Elias Pettersson Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I wonder if NHL players who play in Canada set up companies in the USA and funnel their endorsement revenue through them? Might be a tax dodge for some of their income. Miller lives outside of Boston and probably has USA income and already files a return there. As of today a $10 million USD contract is worth $13,400,000 CDN. Nice work if you can get it. I wonder how much Petey makes selling BMW's? -
My buddy in Florida had stem cell treatment on his knees. Took the stem cells from his gut and injected them into his knees instead of replacing the knees. Supposed to be able to golf in 3 months. My point being is that the Swedes are pretty crafty. Maybe they injected Lekker with stem cells. The East Germans got really good at that kind of stuff.

There has to be some big misses Joe. Most of these kids lost a development year because of Covid. How do scouts adjust for that? De Niro penciled us down to #12 while I hope we hit the home run and move to #1. Why not? Sure I was a tanker and now I have to resort to desperate dreams.

I think your list is probably accurate. I BB is likely gone this summer but Meyers and Garland could be held for TDL. Next fall's camp and pre-season will probably rank as one of the most important in many years. A strong camp by a player will probably bump one of the vets out more quickly.
-
I am sure Boeser is still on the bloc but then most of the roster is. It is always what comes back and how it fits into the team need. Boeser was getting TOI that Garland was not. He has been on the bloc since last spring. If the threat of a trade didn't motivate him then why would RT? I am sure it is a question of confidence. If PA is offered a 2nd rdr and a prospect does he take it?

I don't think the 2nd round has a lottery.

They don't want to be volunteered into Putin's army.

It might come down to how well Woo does in the Calder. Because of waivers I can see Woo in Abby until Nov/Dec based on who comes out of camp and how they perform. Woo brings size and truculence which Van needs on the back end.
