JB could use the layaway plan. Take 2022 picks to maximize value.

Seven years without a clear plan from Canucks brass.
Boudrias replied to appleboy's topic in Canucks Talk
Why would Benning broadcast to his competing GM's what his priorities are? For sure he doesn't owe the fans any 'detailed' plan. Comical what goes on here. -
One might suggest that there is a more sinister purpose in their presence. Influencing public policy from within is probably more effective than China intimidating from without. IMHO theCCP is very good at managing their long term goals. Canada is entirely reliant on the USA defensive umbrella. At the rate the USA is deteriorating Canada could lose that protection on key strategic interests in the North. All three of the USA, Russia and China have ambitions on Canadian sovereignty there.

Your a pup if you remember 0.65 cent beer. I remember 0.20 cent beer. My hockey buddies and I lifted some guy’s car back onto the road one night and he gave us $20. We drank beer all night at the Terra Nova in Trail! Great days!

Both Gadjovich and Lind were high 2nd rounders. They have to get serious NHL looks starting this year. Not a popular stance but I argue that the balance of this season should have a priority of rotating prospects thru the lineup. JB should be a seller. The focus has to be what players should be on the roster in 2 years. Build their skills and evaluate.

My take away from the game was not the 3 bars and posts they hit nor the fact that they were fairly competitive. What stays with me is the + 2 minute shift that all 5 players had in the 3rd. Got caught and it cost a goal. Extended shifts are becoming more common and spreading to more players than just Hughes and Miller. IMHO this is a cancer that can really hurt a team. It doesn’t appear that coaching has a serious problem with it. Hopefully JB can accept this losing season and start playing prospects and move some vets out by April 12th. Truly focus on 2 years out. Build a game plan that roles 4 lines the respect the roles of all the dressed players. Playing a 2nd year pro 25 minutes a night is not doing him any favours. What pressure do they want on him?

Over time you develop a list of posters on here that you look forward to reading. They have valid opinions and add to topics. Ray I consider you and Kootenay Gold on my list.

You seem to be suggesting that management was down on Guance from the get go? He didn’t have Virtanen’s speed or shot. He never produced offence and had no serious physical game. I think he got a look in Boston but couldn’t stick. I suspect that Jake can stay in the NHL even if it isn’t with Vancouver. The idea that management teams would downgrade assets because they didn’t draft them makes no sense.

More than $3.75 -no thanks. Sign him if he can’t be moved by the TDL at less than current rate. Move him before the ED. He is a good teammate but a 3rd line option not a top 6.

Finally a pretty decent game by the Canucks. Crossbars and posts can do you in. I thought they were breaking out most of the time, well. Scrambly at times in the d-zone but markedly better than the road trip. Demko mostly screened on the ones that found the net. I prefer more TOI to the 3rd and 4th lines. Again there is not enough upside to have Hughes playing 2 minute shifts. I don't care if it pays off now and then. Long term it will cause a problem on this team. The fact that he is doing so tells me this is not a serious playoff team.

[Report] Canucks claim Travis Boyd off waivers

Now I know how Calgary fans felt. -
I understand your anger about the USA franchises you mentioned. Bottom line their media markets dwarf those of most Canadian cities. As you pointed out the CAP and revenue sharing probably saved most Canadian franchises and yes some USA teams as well. I guess my point is that revenue growth for the NHL will be the same as it is in the NBA and NFL, media sales. Every sports league strives for the coveted broadcast contract. Content is king. The NHL still gets the majority of their revenue from gate receipts but how expensive can those tickets get? Hockey players know full well what their equivalents make in other sports. How much does the next NHL franchise sell for? $750 million? I mentioned another team in Southern Ontario and I think that happens before Quebec or the Maritimes. A team there tics all the boxes. Attendance, media and merchandise.
-
Hate to say this but would the NHL get the same size of contract deal with USA media if ARZ, CAR, and the Panthers aren't in the NHL? I think not. Major media markets will drive future revenues, not venues like Quebec that will be primarily a gate driven franchise. Add to that the reality that their Nordiques failed. I would argue for another franchise in Southern Ontario before Quebec. I am upset by the lack of numbers coming out of the latest media contract with USA markets. Bettman broke the markets up and still has more to sell. It could mean +$5 million a year to each club. This is a very big deal. American players: The USA development program is quintessential Americanism. They have a playbook that could come from football or basketball and that is how they coach their kids. The kids learn the game thru that structure and their skills develop along the way. We used to take our kids down to Spokane to play games. Our kids were disorganized and relied on their individual skills to win. At PeeWee level they trounced the American teams. By Bantam there were far more competitive games. Since then Hockey Canada has done a lot of skill development for their coaching which has helped a lot.

Actually I thought Benn had some very solid games on the road trip. That said I have hoped that by April 12th TDL the Canucks would be out of playoff contention and that JB could move out vets who are not in the long term plans. Benn would be one of those and OJ would finish the season as 3LD.
-
When their contracts are up Edler, Sutter and Beagle go year to year. Pearson injury was unfortunate as he could have returned a pick. Team has to move on from Rous, Pearson and Benn. Benn is having a decent year so dealing him by April 12th should happen and OJ finishes the year. Rous has a limited movement contract but maybe they can deal him. Pearson might be shaking by the 12th, deal him.
-
He is a Russian. Just like Tryamkin I will not rest easy until both of them sign a contract. The positive is that some of those KHL teams were bouncing cheques last year. Very exciting that Podz and Try could be in the lineup next fall.

Conservative Party of Canada Holds Annual Convention
Boudrias replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
How about they have forums at the riding association level so that members can actually discuss such issues. My impression is that all the parties are top down structures. That doesn't cut it for me. The CPC started the top down stuff under Harper. If the grassroots embarrass leadership by exchanging ideas then where is democracy headed? It appears whoever has the best video wins the vote. In O'Tooles case he actually violated the CPC charter to suppress debate. -
Hoping that Demko playing or not is a call between Demko, Clarke and Green. I have been pretty negative on the team’s d-side play for a few games now. Last night their zone exits were spot on most of the night. Demko stops a break away at the end but generally he had a far easier game. I agree that Demko cannot be overplayed and ideally Holtby goes in. The play today, travel and play again on Monday. They do have a week off. coming soon. I suspect that gets worked into the calculation. Has Gaudette turned the corner? What a great goal. Hogz is really consistent. Cannot remember which d-man but he pin Che’s with 2 minutes left in the game???

IMHO the NYI have one of the best coaches in the NHL, if not the best. I haven't watched to many of their games but they looked deadly when I did.
-
Perfect training for when he gets to the Canucks. Rypien was such a breath of fresh air. Never a doubt he would back up any team mate. RIP
-
Look at what happened to Price. The same thing will likely happen to Demko. It is still a team game and I am seeing little progress on the d-side that would make the dif in taking the group to CUP play. Loungo never won a Cup. End of conversation when it comes to all time greats. He might be remembered for a few years.
