Good idea but you can be certain it will favor the USA. Case in point the Canadian oil industry. Canadian oil sand production is arguably one of the cleanest processes in the world for heavy oil. Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Mexico, Venezula and yes California all produce dirtier versions. Canada should be producing 6 million boe per day. Because Canada does not have access to coastal egress the country is held hostage to USA oil interests. Trans Mtn and Northern Gateway were a solution that have been sabotaged for years. Canada could have used the proceeds from a growing oil production to pay for the transfer to alternatives. Could have used the revenue to diversify the Canadian economy in a significant way. How do you play hardball with the Americans and Chinese when you are bankrupt? This is how these 2 countries want to keep it. It is a national security issue which no political party in Canada is addressing. Better to spend time on an archaic idea like the Governor General or whether Justin needs a shave???

Investing in the stock market - Discussion
Boudrias replied to AV's Coin's topic in Off-Topic General
I use a allocation model so my picks are tempered somewhat. I would add ENB and TRP if you are underweight. FTS is at 4% Y, so yes. As I get older I am more of a 'show me the money' investor. No yield no play. I am giving Keystone Financial research a go this year. They are high on SYZ at a 4% Y so I bought. My growth play is PTQ even without a Y. On commodity I bought CMMC which is a copper play. It is climbing everyday. The bar bell approach is a popular term these days. Currently I am overweight growth at 32% but that is 60% commodities, mostly gold/sliver but some copper and potash. Question might be whether to convert more $'s to USD at 1.253%. Real inflation is coming and Canada will be hit hard. -
Barry Trotz: My buddy grew up In Dauphin and knew Barry Trotz back then. Always spoke very highly of him as a hockey coach. As a coach: 5 years AHL; 15 years in Nashville; 4 years in Washington (he picked the Caps over Vancouver. I am sure he saw greater CUP chances there; he choose to leave the Caps and moved on to the NYI for the past 3 years. NYI go to the semis last year and he has them playing a top level team game. Travis Green: 970 NHL games with 764 points. High end offensive talent at points in his career. While a subjective figure he was mostly a negative +/- player. 20 NHL seasons with the last 5 seasons being more of a d-side player. Coaching: 1 year WHL-Portland, 4 years AHL in Utica, into 4th season with Vancouver. Tough job balancing the fan desire for quick success versus proper team development. Green has experienced both sides of the offence/defense sides of the NHL game. Does he need more NHL coaching support on the bench? Benning never coached. Baumgartner? King? Brown: the PP is pretty good. Clark is solid. The big ? is why Manny left. Obviously they gave preference to replacing Brown I guess. Manny had NHL experience with serious d-side cred. I agree with your desire for a D stud. Question might be whether Tryamkin or Wu could fill that. Until that is realized I would hope that Brisbois and Chatfield get further looks. The expansion draft might pop someone loose. Totally agree that QH should be getting less TOI. Target 20 minutes and adjust to game conditions. To me it is not necessarily about winning but how the team plays win or lose. If this is not a playoff team then refocus on a more balanced approach.

My take is that the Canucks got a couple of lucky goals early and then did not defend well enough to keep the win. Their defending has got a bit better over the past 3 weeks but is no where close to being competitive. The play of the game, unfortunately, was BB's attempt at a cross ice pass in the neutral zone with about 2 minutes left in the 1st period. They turn the puck and the Oilers go in to score. BB goes up the boards on his side as the safe play and maybe they exit the 1st up 3-0. The disappointing part is there does not seem to be a reflex mindset of when to take offensive chances. The top 6 and parts of the 3rd line make high risk plays on a regular basis. In the d-zone how many times did Vancouver lose possession. It appears obvious to me that the book on Vancouver is to forecheck them aggressively and turnovers will happen. Not as bad this game but players staying out on 2 minute shifts is an absolute no IMHO. I don't care if it is Hughes or any of the top 3 forwards. The messaging here smacks of desperation and is indirectly a put down to the rest of the roster. OK, on the PP with puck possession yes. This season was likely gone awhile back. High expectations for this group were overstated as Marky glossed over the stats. Fans are ignoring the d-side fire drills which were a regular feature of the regular season and during many playoff games. Offence will win many regular season games but it takes defense to win CUPs. My biggest disappointments of this season is on the d-side. IMHO the balance of this season should be focused on better defense and individual accountability. I am sure much of this already exists in the org but it is not translating well. Rotate prospects thru the lineup for development and evaluation. Move some vets at the trade deadline. Hard to move vets when you don't know what the prospects have to offer? Management: Benning has delivered a lot of talent to this roster over 5 years. He has tried to help their development by adding vets. Some wins and some losses. Coaching: Been a fan of Green but the lack of d-side awareness bothers me. These struggles are not unique as I think of Colorado and the NYI. What I would prefer to see is a clearer approach towards better team defense.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block

Sandlak had a more accurate shot. Geez he could crank them coming down on the wing. -
Are people in the West being persecuted for their political beliefs?
Boudrias replied to a topic in Off-Topic General
Back in the '70's I lived on $500 a month and put all the cash from my business back into the business to build it. Did that for years. Monkey wrenched equipment to make it last another year. Did not spend money I didn't have or didn't need to. Kept my head up looking for opportunity. Business isn't as mysterious as many people think. Seize the opportunity, know your revenue and control your costs. Markets can be tough so stay focused. Sure some rich people get richer, maybe they deserve to. I have seen just as many rich people piss it all away. Smarts have a lot to do with it. Timing is important. If people want to point fingers as to why they don't succeed I would start with the education system. Kids are coming out of school with very little financial literacy. They are set up for failure before they even get started. The school of hard knocks is exactly that. Hard! -
Mike Babcock signs 2 year contract
Boudrias replied to Toyotasfan's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Babcock has made millions coaching NHL. Taking a university gig might appeal to him. Most fans have no idea what he did or didn't do. The conflict between coach and player is almost always there. One could argue that if it is not either the coach or player are not pushing hard enough. -
My great grandfather came across the West by covered wagon in 1851 to Utah. He couldn't get along with Young so loaded the family back into a wagon and took them back to Missouri. That didn't work so back to Utah in 1866. Tried to farm but eventually left for Canada in 1882. My grandmother was 4 years old at that time. She lived long enough to watch the moon landing. She never flied in a plane. She was one tough lady and delivered babies without a thought.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
Boudrias replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Your probably right. Boston fans would tar & feather Virtanen if he dogged one shift. That said Vancouver will have to get heavier and be able to play a lot tougher game than they do now to be a CUP contender. Run & Gun hockey and contact lite might work during regular season but CUP play is another matter. It is a physical toughness but also a mental toughness that is not there yet. Roussel was pretty much the only player who actively stuck his nose into opposing players faces and even he has quit that. -
I was at the Penticton Prospects tourny and he looked great. Nice size and playing strong position. He looked like a NHL'er. The odds are so against these young players who even make it as far as the AHL. I wish him luck.

I agree but last night he barely got 10 minutes of TOI while Hughes was over 25 minutes. Hughes stayed out for a full 2 minutes of PP. Either Hughes is simply doing this or Green is telling him too. Either way what message is telling your bench? I don't like it.

I used to sing to my dog as we walked down the hay field waiting for him to do his business. Pretty routine evening ritual. One snow covered night I noticed that my hound was hesitant and kept looking up at me. I quickly realized that I had been so preoccupied I had not been singing to him. As I lapsed into my best Marlene Dietrich rendition of Lili Marleen he relaxed and did his business. Of course we always watched our Canuck games by the fire with him sleeping at my feet. Happy dog, happy me. Go Canucks!

If MacEwen had a stronger d-side game he would be playing I think. Roussel is PK'ing and has stabilized his game somewhat. I agree that ideally MacEwen and Virtanen should be taking his TOI. Roussel is a great guy but he will not be on this team in 2 years and the younger prospects have to have game time.

Hogs is one strong game away from leading rookie scoring. IMHO his ppg gets stronger through the season. Some rookies tapper but I highly doubt he will.

I viewed this aborted season as a transition process. Marky and Tanev were big pieces but because of CAP and age I was willing to move on. The key to me is 2022-23 for serious CUP contention. Indirectly Marky was hurting the long term goal as his superior play allowed an easy out for poor d-side play. Even now, although improved, I have not seen a d-side game that is CUP quality. Not upset by that as the work is being done and it takes time. The transition is encouraging as Joulevi and Hoglander excel. Injuries will likely happen and other prospects have to have a chance at TOI. Chatfield, MacKewen and Bailey are candidates. The real downer of this year is the taxi squads with players who are not getting game time. Their seasons are largely being sacrificed. I appreciate the play that Roussel and Erickson offer but I would not dress Erickson again and I would sit Roussel for the odd game to give younger players some TOI. I keep Sutter deeper into the transition. Hamonic is a trade chip in all likelihood. Season is 35% done and the Canucks are not out of it.

My Other was Motte. Goes flat out and hits everyone. His 5 goals simply tops it all off. The club is missing him on the PK.
