  1. If the Fed continues their QE at what point does the market hiccup. The FED is buying their own bonds and creating liquidity issues for short term lenders. No? If there are no short term debt instruments to use for security in transactions won't rates go up to reflect increased risk? This all works until it doesn't. If the market demands higher rates to cover risk it is a condemnation of QE, no? Loss of confidence is the real threat.
  2. Maybe Demko can use Jake in his thesis.
  3. Your hot today! The Gelinas comparison is so bang on. It was a sad day when the org lost him.
  4. Look at Hughe's description on the play leading to his goal. He was anticipating the Calgary d-man passing to Gaudreau and realizing the Gaudreau did not realize he was there. A high risk play that worked out for Hughes. He had to be confident that his team mates would cover his position defensively. Is the anticipation on the club that Hughes gets the offensive red light on plays he deems or is there a check off? This is a tough call because team mates are often geared for offence.
  5. Let's go boys!!! What weight is Joulevi playing at? Roster says 182 but that was his draft weight, no? Big question as to roster when Hamonic draws back in. I want a Canuck rookie d-man in the line up each game no matter what. Hoglander: Wow! How many posts in the last 5 games? 3? He is due. There are a number of players in this lineup that can win a game any given night. IMHO Hoglander is one of those. His puck retrieval and possession is outstanding. Tremendous puck handling and shot. Sad to see his interview where he occupies himself with calling back home to Sweden to entertain himself. The young players need the off ice support of team mates more than anyone else.
  6. So many excellent points. As a long term fan I can comfortably say that Canuck ownership and managements have more often than not errored for the quick fix. I totally agree that the rebuild should have started back in 2012-13 season. As you rightfully pointed out the Aqualini's have consistently provided this org with money and commitment. In 50 years I have never seen the Canucks rebuild to the extent they have and continue to do. If I had a criticism it would be the lack of return for vets who have moved on. Traditionally that would not have happened but this is not unique to the Canucks. it started earlier than Covid. Younger players making NHL rosters have upset the evaluation process in the sense that management has to commit to them at far riskier assessment periods. Mistakes are inevitable. Combine that with NHL revenues being decimated by Covid. Instead of anticipated revenue gains and thusly CAP increases to offset longer duration player contracts the opposite has happened. LE21 would not have had the impact if not for Covid. Also bear in mind the lost financial impact of the renewed USA broadcast contracts. News is almost non-existent on how this is proceeding. It was anticipated that these contracts could add as much as $5 million per NHL team per year. I am big fan of what Benning has accomplished during his tenure. To an extent I think fans forget that NHL clubs are a business. The players are assets that have to be developed and evaluated as to their contribution to the goal of winning a CUP. It can appear cold hearted and manipulative at times but it reflects a reality. On the whole Benning has raised the stature of the Canucks in the hockey world. Like everyone within that world he is judged regularly. Staying the course towards the long term goal of a CUP is not easy. Fans screaming for changes often reflect a very short term outlook. You cannot run orgs like that. It smacks of how the org was ran for decades.
  7. His FO% has dropped a lot. I was wondering if he has an injury.
  8. Joulevi is a bit of a head scratcher. He had a great game last night, especially the hit on Thachuk. He's listed at 182 pounds and he doesn't look much bigger. He is supposed to be heavier, no? Meyers has been playing some good hockey lately. His goal was sweet. I have no idea how Marky would read a shot coming off a Meyer's stick at 6' 8". Where is it going to go? Hogs is owed a goal. Rings one off the bar but his play all night was tops for the forward group.
  9. Bennett: 2 point in 12 games and a -5. He has been playing top 6 shifts when I have seen him. He hits less than Virtanen.
  10. Wow! That Burrows kid was really not that talented. How many goals did he score with his patented backhand roof?
  11. The Americans are vaccinating 1 million people per day. Biden will hit his 100 million in his first 100 days. Meanwhile Trudeau asks India for vaccine and receives a maybe.
  12. Conrats to Jay Beagle on his 600th game. Hard worker and quality team guy. On the alumni a shout out to Tony Stecher who played his 300th. How the time flies. Go Canucks. No other team I detest more except for the Laffers. Points from Hogs tonight.
  13. I am probably butchering the thought but somewhere I read that over 30% of teenagers see their future as 'influence makers'. In other words junior Kardashians. They see this as there way to wealth and fame. So YES, I agree with your 'brink of extinction' call.
  14. Thanks for all this. Appreciated.
  15. The rollout has not been even. Different states are using different strategies. Some more effective than others. Since Canada is way back in the pack it might be valuable to use this USA experience when vaccines become available. This is why I question why BC doesn't have a program in place to register those who want a vaccine which can then be used for scheduling when vaccines are available. Most people I know have no idea when to expect their vaccine or the strategy that will be used. To me this is leg work that could be done now that would prevent confusion later.
  16. Why Princip? He might have pulled the trigger but what was the real cause? Not unlike today pre-WW l was an era capitalizing on the full impact of modern industrialization. Most of modern Europe was competing for resources and markets. Germany, late to the game because of unification, was squeezed out of resources and markets. Their production and technology was leading edge. Was The Kaiser any worse than any of the other royal houses? Rank nationalism was used to manipulate the people and ultimately they were used as cannon fodder. The question I ask is whether Canada and later the USA should have sacrificed their youth to bail out the Euros. If they had not the Euros would have been forced into a negotiated peace and WW ll likely would not have happened. No Hitler, no Heydrich. How many any times do we read about how much the Americans ‘benefited’ from WW ll as they came out of the war as the #1 power in the world. What is conveniently forgotten is that America was already on that path before WW l. The sacrifice in lives and treasure made by the USA and Canada should never be trivialized. I suggest Canada lost more. The leadership lost to Canada on the fields of Europe should never be forgotten or forgiven.
  17. West Virginia appears to be the standard for vaccine distribution. A software program for those who want the vaccine to register and an appointment process. They have completed their + 60 inoculations. People at risk, done. Why hasn’ BC set up a similar registry in prep for when vaccines are available?
  18. Odds are against making playoffs and the worse scenario would be JB making deals to try and change that. Use the balance of the season to develop and evaluate players and work on a d-side game. It appears the run & gun offence that appeals to many gets exposed against teams which can control the puck and forecheck. I like the youth, Hogs, Mac, OJ, Bailey and Chatfield. Play them. Gaudette and Vrtanen have to show more and their TOI should reflect that. I think it is time to move on from Rooster. Let Sutter and Pearson play out their contracts and based on offers maybe move them. Love Motte. No point in getting hyped up about management and their game strategy. How the team plays on the ice is a group decision from Benning down. I am sure they realize that the Canucks will not be serious contenders until their youth matures and their d-side game becomes competitive. Its a process. Like the players management is always being assessed for what they provide versus what is available from the outside. There is something to be said about stability in the workplace. While shipping a player out for another who might compliment the group should always be considered. Firing coaches might appeal to some but runs the risk of questioning overall abilities within the whole team. Play it out and learn how to win.
  19. This kid is something special. There was a side shot of his face when he came back on the ice and he already had a fair size egg on his forehead. hen there was talk of him sitting I wondered about a possible concussion. His core strength is something else. Many hits he has taken and recovered his balance when I thought he would go down. I think by season's end he will be a regular point maker. I actually wouldn't have a problem if he dropped to the 3rd line now again as it would be a tad more sheltered. Give him more time to make plays. His puck possession numbers must be great.
  20. Loved Burkie's stories. Hadn't had anything close since they ran Cherry out of town. Good luck to him. Bieksa says he is coaching his son's PeeWee team. Bring Burrows back to run the forwards and Bieksa the defense.
  21. Also Florida left him curbside as well. Green needs a new deal after the season is over. I would be shocked if Benning is not exploring his options. Is Green the problem or is it simply growing pains? Even tho the NYI's were already well on their way when they brought Trotz in. IMHO he is one of the best coaches today. He brought more discipline into their game and they have continued up the ladder. Look how he transitioned the Caps to a Cup. Many games I see a lack of defensive discipline. Many plays outright gambling, low % at best. But all this happens during a losing streak. It doesn't appear that Green has lost the team but they sure look confused. The last thing I want to see is a couple of players get hot and pull the team up solely on their talent. They have to turn this around on solid fundamentals. If they cannot develop a d-side game under Green or his assistant coaches then changes are needed.
  22. World Outlook Conference was advocating value stocks and commodities and cash. Owning value won’t prevent their going down but the cash flow likely stands up. Still at 20% gold/silver. I ‘m to old for BITCOIN. Sounds like a ponsi scheme to me. So so much volatility in markets I can understand why people are trading on that. I don’t trust my research data enough to be involved. Timing is everything. When markets turn down there will be serious shortage of buyers and orders will be hard to fill.
  23. He caught the same flu he had in Calgary.
