  1. I could be wrong but I don't think he was.
  2. Players carry huge Disability insurance policies. If the Canucks did something wrong, which I doubt, then it would be more likely the insurance company that would sue. Your take is the correct one IMO. Tough to watch Pearson. He was a solid player for Van. He was a vet I would have wanted to stay as a mentor.
  3. Hogs will be back in Van next year. He has a level of truculence that Tocchet will love.
  4. Silovs as a backup to Demko would hurt his development IMHO. He should be top goalie in Abbie for next year. That doesn't mean he cannot get NHL games next year. Will watch his Calder with great interest. If he is a absolute standout then maybe I have to change my viewpoint.
  5. Pre-season camp could tell the tale. Woo might end up in Abby while RT checks out thos they keep out of camp. Woo starts strong in Abby he might get the call next fall.
  6. It is a fine line there. Wolanin, Juulson and Podz are all coming back but they all had a big part in getting Abby to where they are. Brisbois and Guiseppe will not return. Johansson coming should not be a problem. Black Aces coming to playoff teams is a ritual that all these players should be used to by this time in their careers. Many were likely Black Aces themselves.
  7. What did I see out of RT's coaching? Yes there were night when the 'fire drill' reasserted itself. But far less. The GA stat shows that. What I saw was more of a north/south game and better puck support. A lot less dangerous finesse efforts across the 200'. I also saw much more physical engagement. Yes, some of that was players playing for their spots. RT regularly said that the roster was not heavy enough to play a regular physical game. I expect that to change. There will be changes to this roster by opening night. A full pre-season of Gonchar and Foote coaching the d-side has to stand well for opening night. All 3 of these coaches monitoring summer training has to bode well for opening night. You are very worried about Tocchet's treatment of Kozmenko. IMHO RT and his coaches know what it takes to win a CUP, Kuz does not. Can Kuz learn from these 3 coaches? I suggest he can and will. Playing offensive hockey in the KHL doesn't mean a lot in the NHL. RT cannot treat Kuz any differently than he does other roster players. If he does dissension will be inevitable. Why is BB playing on the top line? I suggest RT already knows what he has in Kuz. I suspect management has already decided BB's future with the team and that is they will move him. Thusly they play him on the top line to show case him. I would be surprised if they had not had serious talks with a number of teams already.
  8. A name I will add to your list is Hogs. While he will be in Abby for another year Klim is developing nicely. Calder playoffs will really help both of them. Waivers have buried Hogs in Abby or he would have been recalled. His fiesty game has really surfaced. I will reserve judgement on Hronek and Hirose until I see more of them next fall.
  9. For me the core is still only Petey, Hughes and Demko. Miller is a nice piece if they keep him. Kuz had a stellar rookie season even if he is not a rookie. A single season does not make him core in my books. He has a 2 year deal kicking in. If he repeats his performance next year then he is core. Horenck is kinda like Kuz but he has more of a NHL record so I put him higher up the order towards core status. I have to see him perform to December next year. Nobody else is pushing the core status.
  10. IMHO many people are over confident in the ability of government to get control of inflation. To a degree governments are in a conflict of interests as they can pay their debt off in devalued dollars. Of course all government costs are also going up as well just as ours are. At some point, if not now, the people and businesses ability to pay more tax will be reached. At some point the government's ability to borrow money to spend now will be brought into question. People experiencing 5% inflation will lose 50% of their purchasing power in 14 years. I lived through the '70's when interest rates hit 18%. I nearly lost my business as a result. I knew many people who went bankrupt.
  11. I was on the trade JT bandwagon for the reasons that this thread have ID'd. Like you I think his game has got stronger. Whether he is moved before his NTM kicks in might depend on whether Allvin can trade other roster players and if so who comes back in those deals.
  12. Nope the tank doesn't mean anything? Ya right. The higher Van climbed to #11 the more disappointed I became. Drafting #5 left so many options to Allvin. Now gone. For what? Canucks might luck out and drop down with the lottery. Maybe Allvin pulls a trade for more picks. What is truly galling are the teams that have been tanking since January. Many should pat Allvin on the back as they climb to the stage on draft day.
  13. I'd be more concerned if it was November. RT says he has talked with Kuz and Kuz says he understands. Gonchar has also probably talked to him. Podz was having d-side issues under Green-Boudreau and spent time in Abby. Served him well. Kuz is older but his pro experience is the KHL which is noted for d-side light. RT is trying to build a serious playoff team. He cannot coach by committee or popular vote. If his style of coaching is going to be a problem then Allvin will have to deal with it. It appears to me that Allvin is on board with RT, after all he hired him. A summer of training in Van with RT there will cement that relationship.
  14. To heck with the coffee I'm worried about the price of Bud Light!
  15. Not sure who the Tank Commander will be next year. Will take October off and be back in November. Yikes! Nope not again. RT won't go for that.
  16. Cool it. Your starting to sound like a trucker.
  17. Can roster players be reassigned after the NHL season ends? Maybe they had to waive Juulson to allow him to play Calder. He was papered earlier. I am hoping he has a great playoffs and gets a good look next fall.
  18. Governments have been firing money at these problems for decades. To what effect? I am not arguing against support but questioning effectiveness to date. How are objectives set, monitored and results evaluated. It reminds me of the KIRO news doc from a year ago where drug addiction in Seattle were studied. Recovered addicts talked about 'free drugs' and the lack of success they had. Re-hab could work for many if counselling and consequences were part of the program.
  19. We know the Canucks want to get bigger and more aggressive. That should benefit Woo. I don't see Bear, Meyers or Burroughs as long term. Wouldn't be surprised if they were all gone by next October. I want to see a longer look at Juulsen. McWard to Abby. Excited to see Johansson.
  20. Wow! What a scrap. Kudos big time to AKL.
  21. The fact that Marky, Tanev and Toffoli left without anything coming back tells the tale of the indecisiveness that clouded the end of the Benning era. Canuck's have never had a reputation for strong asset management. This was one of the most brutal examples.
  22. I like your line up Alf except for Tanev. Last year was the first in his career where he played 82 games. This year he has reverted to his norm at 65. At 33 years old this will only get worse. We need a RD who can develop with the team towards serious contention in 2 years, that isn't Tanev or Bear or Schenn. You wanted to flip Woo to get Tanev. I would play Woo with Hughes before that. I think camp in the fall will find a partner for Hughes.
  23. I wish Hirose had been able to play with Hronek just to have that look. Next fall that should happen. That pass up the middle last night was a beaut! Bear isn't a top 4 d-man IMHO. He can play there for injury coverage but not in playoffs.
  24. Yes, keeping the core happy is important. I don't think the tank would have destroyed their will or desire. That said resigning Petey is a key summer need. One of my hopes thru the tank was adding another 'core' player to the group. Drafting at #5 rather than #10 or #11 is significant IMHO. Would our existing core have had long term reservations if they had another Hughes or Petey in the lineup? That is the value I see. The Canuck core has to be expanded. There are other means to do that and we will have to trust that Rutherford and Allvin have a plan.
