  1. Canucks have to be able to play a heavy game when it is needed. They can get through a regular season doing the run & gun but come playoffs they have to be able to do both. Having players like Virtanen and MacEwen with their size and speed makes a big dif. If it is not Jake it will be another big forward. Virtanen adds a tad more physicality and he draws back in. Virtanen is already pretty good at the board work. He can recover pucks. Nope, not giving up on Jake yet. That said Podz is coming. Can you just imagine all 3 of those guys on the Canucks.
  2. Pods might be faster than Bo.
  3. OJ simply does not look that big on the ice. I had visions of a junior Edler. Wasn't he drafted at 182?
  4. Chatfield weighs more than Joulevi. I was surprised.
  5. He played a physical game in college. Was being injured and had to be coached to tone it down a bit. Didn’t see a lot of his games but was a solid possession guy.
  6. I can’t help it I check Tony’s stats after each Detroit game. Stecher seems to be doing OK.
  7. Jets are a good puck possession team with outside speed. Their forward group is just as good as Van even without Dubois. Van’s advantage is the Jet d-core is not as strong. That might be a leap considering Van has allowed 40 shots a game. My hope is that the group is settling down and will tighten up. Van bottom 6 have been playing well and will have to deliver again for a win. Jets will be rested. A win would be huge going into 5 games against the Habs and Laffers. Watching SN makes me want to puke. Fawning bunch of sycophants as they stroke the Laffers money tree.
  8. A question might be, where does Motte see himself playing? Does he want a shot at top 6? He was a great scorer in his Hobey Baker run off. Top 6 always pays more money. I highly doubt/hope the coaches know where his head is. Benning has to resign him and it will cost more no matter where he plays.
  9. More mobile than OJ yes. Better than Tony S is still to be determined.
  10. Chatfield is a better skater than I thought. He took a couple of rushes up ice and looked good.
  11. Anyone who gets a monthly pension cheque is likely benefiting from some kind of hedging strategy.
  12. Markets are turning into another Oprah show. Everybody has their opinion. Nothing wrong with Reddit. It is just another market maker that takes advantage of perceived valuations. The commenter above hits it on the head. Governments are pumping money out as fast as they can print it and deliberately lowering the cost of money. People are inching further out onto the risk environment for return and there isn't much crying about it. Then you have morons who claim it affects only the 1%. The level of ignorance is scary.
  13. Sami takes one in the jewels, Nashville series I think, and comes back after a game. He was injury prone but a gamer.
  14. Loved Mike Keane. Plays 1161 NHL games. Wins Cups in Montreal and Dallas, retires and goes home to Winnipeg to play another 5 years with the Moose, 365 games. Retires at 42 years old. There are times when I think of players who deserve some ROH consideration even tho they never dressed for the Canucks. Keane played and likely mentored; Burrows, Bieksa, Rypien, Edler, Grabner, Hanson, Bourdon, Raymond, Rome, Schneider and Nolan Baumgartner (current Canuck coach). At the least they could have had a night for him with some of his alumni there. Your right about his tough game but not overtly so. He played a mentally tough game and if it took physicality he was ready.
  15. Canucks need more of that drive in their line up. Imagine having 2 Motte’s.
  16. I think Roussell will be gone before Jake. Both Jake and MacEwen need the TOI. Both had great scoring opps last night.
  17. Although I think the d-side game was a bit better it is still a work in progress. +40 shots does not come close to cutting it. Scoring from the bottom 6 is a real strength. My fav Motte is killing it. He is a Mike Keanu clone. Sens are in crisis. Desperation time.
  18. I ran businesses all my life and didn't see the 'excesses' people seem to think are out there. I guess I didn't get the right accountant. I had to keep a log in my pickup to record business associated driving for RCA. I sure saw a lot of people who started businesses and immediately bought all the 'goodies' they associated with the so called business lifestyle. The vast majority didn't last very long.
  19. Isn't that the rule of thumb in dividend investing? Your shares in crease in value by roughly the amount of the dividend. That's what Connolly says. I target a total return of about 10% per year. Rule of 72. You will double your money in 7.2 years. Another yardstick is to take the 5 year bond rate and add 4.5% for equity risk. On Dec 31st that came to 6.08% target. All about the CF your portfolio generates IMHO.
  20. When I was younger and more fearless I did Tae Kwon Do. This fighting is supposed to be mainly kicking but you can throw opponents. It never failed that if someone got in close on me I would come around and use my elbow. I tried to cure myself of this but had little luck. Instinct or something? Never had any problem like that in hockey.
  21. He has to have a better d-side game to stick with the Canucks as he will not likely ever be a top 6 player. The issue then also becomes his size. In playoff hockey I question his ability to handle the heavy going. Regular season probably OK. If this was a normal season I think we might have seen Jasek up for a look. Not as flashy as Gaudette but able to handle heavier play and his FO ability is getting better. Decent size and experience in the Czech league + the AHL.
  22. When Cook played here he was one of the few who stood up for team mates. Most Canucks had 'not making eye contact' down to a science. Pretty pathetic. In the early years Cooker was liked.
  23. I’m like you. I watch with mild interest but that’s it. Some criticism of what is going on but I don’t have a problem with it. I remember when short selling was considered unethical. Volatility and momentum expose a lot of market weaknesses. The big question is how big will the market pullback be an for how long.
  24. Bid Mac has decent wheels for a big guy. Got some really good shots off last game. His size makes him playoff material. His TOI should be at least 10 minutes per game.
  25. I agree. A bridge deal in light of CAP restraints makes sense. The new USA broadcast deal should be along soon. More revenue to raise the CAP. A bridge deal with bonuses.
