Investing in the stock market - Discussion
Boudrias replied to AV's Coin's topic in Off-Topic General
Roughly 80 million vehicles sold in the world each year. 17-18 million in the USA. The EV culture argues how quickly their numbers will climb over the next 5 - 10 years but totally ignore the infrastructure upgrading that will have to accompany such increases. It isn't happening now and will likely not happen fast enough even if there was a demand. If self driving becomes reality I can see a sharp decline in car ownership and a radical change in public transport. Estimates of infrastructure upgrade costs are $1.8 to 2.5 trillion per year. Where is the money coming from? Central banks around the world are buying their own bonds because no one wants them. One of the first spending priorities from Biden was $300 billion to state and city coffers. They are broke. What can happen? Perhaps a review of the 2008-09 credit crisis or even last March when markets imploded and shed trillions of $'s in a matter of weeks. There were no buyers. When confidence is lost everything grinds to a halt. The largest economy in the world (16%) is imploding into social unrest. Does anyone think Biden will save the situation? The USA had the economic strength built over 200 years that successive administrations have frittered away. All this is important to investors because it is shortening the willingness to invest in financial markets for the long term. Public markets will suffer. -
Edler will be an option next year but I doubt he gets more than 1 year contracts from now on. That a stretch? He will be 35 in April. Still plays a strong game. At 43 Chara played well over 20 minutes the other night. A stronger d-core probably enables Edler to play longer. If Tryamkin wants to come back to the NHL Benning has to sign him and get him into games. That likely does not happen until next year. As I said I doubt Hamonic will re-sign. He is 30 and still young enough and good enough to get a multi year deal, especially if he has a good season with Vancouver.

Tryamkin is fast enough IMHO. My biggest question will be his d-zone coverages on fast NHL players. I don't worry to much about 3 years ago as the Canucks have advanced a lot since then. More important to consider how he will fit in now. I doubt Benning will have the money to resign Hamonic so Tryamkin is a 'big' option.

I liked the plays he was trying from the ozone blue line. Poise is a good description.

I thought it was a Health BC (Bonnie) decision at 10 days whether he had to go 14 days or not. It is day 6 now. I think he could be playing by next Wednesday.

Classic Bieksa when he accused Freidman of dying his hair. Breath of fresh air IMHO. Old Eliot looked pretty grey during the CUP finals with his beard. That grey went pretty high on the scalp. All that aside who the h*ll is Kevin B. getting to cut his hair. Looked like they were going to scalp him and changed their minds.

Oilers won't be tired but they will be a tad desperate because they have seen this show before. Game 2 is not desperation time but some will view it that way. If the fans had been in the stands last night I suspect some booing in the Oiler d-zone. All this said I think the Van d-core plays even better with a game under their belts. Hamonic did very well considering his lack of play. They will watch film this morning and fine tune. Yes McDavid hit a post but so did JV. The Oilers had how many PP's? The Canucks carried the play for much of the game.

Rank Cdn teams, for 2021 Div-Order

I thought the Laffers were lucky to win last night. The Habs outplayed them most of the night. Very impressed with the Canuck d-core last night. No 'fire drills' versus last year when they were routine. Yes, Holtby made some nice saves but did not have to stand on his head anywhere near as much as Marky had to. Thought the Oiler d-core got caught a lot. TO defense also weak. -
Tryamkin might have lost his opportunity in Van. Gone for 3 years and the org depth will make it much tougher to crack the lineup. That said I doubt Van could keep Hamonic as he will get better offers next year.
-
I thought he had an outstanding game last night. Kinda reminds me of Mike Keane. It is players like this that you win CUPs.

No hesitation from this kid. He is very confident in his game. His assist on BB's first goal was unreal. His pass on the 2nd BB goal had to be 100 feet.

[Signing] Canucks sign Travis Hamonic
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
SO your say'in they have a chance. The fact that TSN is down playing the Canucks, while not new, is a fallback Plan B. The Laffers will crash and the Canucks will roar out of the West as a Cinderella story. -

I will start reducing market exposure by month end. Hugely overvalued. -
I think he is most effective at 20 TOI. He was having a great year last year. We know what he can do. Edler, Schmidt, Myers, Hamonic and OJ are big boys and pretty mobile.

Evander Kane files for Bankruptcy
Boudrias replied to Chronic.Canuck's topic in General Hockey Discussion
A bullet dodged by Benning. Kane is a great hockey player but his personal life is wrecking him. -
I think Serg has become a sub sandwich entrepreneur back in Montreal. Loved it when Quinn got him.

My suggestion of Taiwan nuclear deterrence is based on the idea that the Taiwanese might not hold a lot of hope that the USA will have time to support them or the willingness to support them if the PLA invades. I don't know of any country who values their sovereignty relying on another country to defend it. History has many examples of that mistake. Israel was faced with the same situation and they questioned whether the USA would back them. Israel now has nuclear weapons. China backs Iran. Would the Israeli's help the Taiwanese out? Would India? The Ukraine supposedly had a number of nucs unaccounted for post independence. Pakistan?
