Podz is doing just fine. It is obvious he takes his "C" seriously. His team is on course for the finals against Canada IMHO. He strikes me as the type who considers winning more important than taking personal tributes. When offense is needed he is in front of the net or dishing nice passes into the slot. When defense is needed he is the 3rd man back. I think he is playing the game that Igor asked of him.

It appears you are looking at this with a bit of hindsight. CAP is an issue now but when Erickson was signed the Canucks were looking at a yearly increase in CAP limits. Even last year in pre-Covid the anticipated CAP limit was going to $84 million. Canuck management has always had the luxury of an ownership that supported their spending. TT hurts but considering the circumstances it is what it is. On the other side of the scale we have JT Miller for a 1st rounder.

What I noticed during the WJC so far is the depth of talent in some orgs. Canucks don't seem to have a lot in the under 20. The Toffoli deal cost a lot for a player who was not resigned.

This is what I am seeing from Pods. Obviously taking the "C" very seriously. The Russian team had the score to win and Pods was making sure of the W. Positionally I liked his game. Not as much net front presence as against Canada but again it wasn't needed as they led. This is a big Russian team and it appears to me that they can grow their game towards a rematch against Canada.

Go for the drumstick instead!

Petey looks like he has put on another 10 pounds. At 185 - 190 he will be a force.

Even with a shortened season I think Benning has to make hard choices. Is Meyers worth $6 mil? That was the going rate when signed but the NMC likely worked into the compensation as part of that deal. Benning reserved the right to move him in any number of ways. With Tanev gone and Schmidt signed I think Meyers is a keeper unless he really drops off or one of the prospects shows well. If Seattle is picking off the exposed roster I would think Meyers would be a serious option for them. i don't think $6 mil scares Seattle much. Covid will be gone by draft day. There might be other options no doubt.

A buddy I went to school with ended up as an architect down in Brisbane, Australia. His firm did work all over SE Asia and in Saudi Arabia. He got a call from a ex-patriot Chinese fellow who said he was going to do a development near Shanghai, China. This guy had done condo towers in Vancouver and the firm knew him. Anyway my buddy flies into Shanghai for a site inspection after they had been working on the project for 3 months. He had preliminary concept drawings but nothing finalized. No geotech work had been done on site. They get on site and the land was totally bulldozed and excavators were everywhere. This was a big project. Housing for 7,500 and commercial space of 500,000 sq ft. My buddy is freaking out and tells the guy they cannot move forward without proper permitting. This guy looks at him, smiles and says he doesn't need permits. I pay the governing council 'fees' and all that stuff is forgotten. Then he says we are doubling the size of the project. My buddy got a plane out of Shanghai and never went back. -
Now that is going back a ways Joe. Merry Christmas.

At one point going into the PLA was a meal ticket for those who didn't want to farm. There is a whole other facet of Chinese life that we in the West do not really know about. I remember reading about Tiananmen Square massacre. The troops in Bejing refused to obey CCP orders to clear the Square. Many actually joined the protest. The CCP brought troops in from another district and isolated them from the city and spent 2 weeks indoctrinating them before taking them to the Square. Over 10,000 killed.

Geez Ray I thought his 2 set ups in the 1st were grade A ops. He set up both team mates in the slot, close in.

Tactically I cannot see the Americans reinforcing Taiwan unless they have troops already there. Having 50-60,000 troops in SK works to deter the Norks. I don't know how many USA troops are in Taiwan? A few years back there was a call for 4 divisions but nothing happened I don't think. I believe there is a USA air force base. Any defacto landing of PLA troops in Taiwan, even if contained, is the end. Any deterrence to the CCP has to be a nuclear threat if Taiwan independence is threatened.

To me it is not whether the Canucks can find a place for Baer to play in January. It is all about whether there should be an expectation that he would still be on the roster in 2-3 years. Fitting him on a 3rd line makes no sense and he is not good enough to be a top 6 on the Canucks now. The org depth has passed him bye.

Vancouver will lose a player to Seattle so who? I can see Edler as a non issue but Myers could be very much an option.

Really liked his game. He is definitely bigger. Two grade A setups in the 1st period. He generated a number of scoring chances for himself during the game. He is a solid net front presence. I have the USA game set for recording. A lot of size on the Russian team. As they get there games in I suspect they amp up the physical side. Thought Canada was a tad faster.

In 1979 PLA invaded North Vietnam with 200,000 troops. China objected to NVA occupation of Cambodia. PLA could have moved thru to Hanoi but withdrew after making their point. Afterwards that the Vietnamese purged over 20,000 from their communist party for being sympathetic to the Chinese. My point being is that CCP has made enemies with their aggressive foreign policy in SE Asia. I make the point that the Taiwanese cannot depend on any help if the PLA attacks. IMHO the only credible deterrence would be nuclear weapons which I suspect they could have developed or bought. 81 miles between Taiwan and the mainland. Not insignificant but it would not stop a determined foe. One would have to suspect that the CCP has developed a significant 5th column in Taiwan.

I can't see Canada sending its carrier task force. Often wondered if Taiwan bought a few 'off the shelf' H-bombs from the Israelis. Cannot see how else they would be able to defend themselves.

Looking at VTRS-Q @ 17.65. Might sell JNJ to raise money to buy. It is a merged Co of Mylan and UpJohn. PE 4. Limited growth is the issue but they have amny irons in the fire. If it goes to anticipated PE of 11 this will be a double. Dividend coming in Q1 of 21. Dividend policy is to payout 25% of FCF. -
I figure on 30 shotguns this season!

Does anyone lift a finger if they move on Taiwan?

I got a real kick out of Don Cherry telling the story about Pollack calling him in to tell him he was sending him to the minors. Some how Don thought it was to Pittsburg but it was actually Spokane. All he could do was talk about Madigan scaring the crap out of him. He played a full year in Spokane and half a season with the WHL Canucks in 68-69. I miss Don on TV. He had some great stories.

BEPC was up 8.3% today. What a HR that has been. -
Great respect for Tulsi Gabbard who turned down her shot. When all medical people and seniors are inoculated I will get the shot. Apparently all members of Congress can get their shots now. AOC elbowed Pelousi out of the way to get her shot.
