  1. The early Canuck success on the PP put the Blues back on their heels for a bit. Vegas will do the same thing as they will target EP40 and Hughes. If the Canuck PP can make them pay it could have the same impact as against the Blues. That said Vegas has a better defense and better forwards for that matter. As a Canuck fan I have to hope that Marky can continue his superior play and that special teams can outplay Vegas. As per earlier in the thread MacLean is a real loser and I won't listen to his drivel. Serious character flaws IMHO. What he tried to do to Alex Burrows should never be forgot or forgiven. He tried to use his influence to end the career of a solid hockey player and a great person. It was not a one off as he did the same thing to Don Cherry by not supporting him when Cherry needed it. That tells me that the banter of their relationship was a calculated one by MacLean. He was using Cherry to promote himself. This was in contrast to Cherry who whole heartedly supported MacLean when CBC tried to cut cost by getting rid of MacLean. Obviously MacLean did not reciprocate when Cherry needed his support and that says a lot about that person. Never forget that Ron MacLean is a douche.
  2. Very difficult to compare GM's down through the years. CAP era versus non-CAP free for alls. Canadian $ franchises trying to compete with USD franchises. Lots of variables. As a 50 year fan what I can say is that I have never seen a rebuild from nothing to what is here now. Canuck managements through the eras have always had fan pressure and financial challenges to contend with. Short term solutions and desperation plays have always been the opt out. I give full credit to Benning for the team he has built. This group has moved faster towards contention than I thought possible. As an aside fans should not forget Benning's work on the org. The Utica team is an intregal part of the result. The full benefit of the work there will be realized in coming years as the NHL roster becomes harder to break in on. Players will spend 2-3 years there as a matter of course.
  3. Where will the CUP finals be, Edmonton or TO. Wouldn't that just piss TO off to see the Canucks in the Finals. 12 game winning streak coming up!
  4. Thinking about that as well. The younger players could benefit from accelerated bonding. It appears to be well established with the Canucks. No nightclubs or family diversions. Might be easier for the younger guys. More focus.
  5. Jake’s rush up the middle in the 3rd was very intimidating for the Blues d-core. Speed and size coming fast forced them back. JV had already broke around them earlier. His play was creating space for himself but just as important space for his teammates. These playoffs might be the making of Jake.
  6. Marky was the star of the series for a reason. The Blues were getting plenty of chances. I thought the series would be won in the Van dzone but Marky carried the day not the d-core. The up up tempo game worked great for the Canucks in the neutral zone and the ozone. Forwards moved the puck well. The Stecher goal was a beaut. Stecher was impressive in the series. What truly stood out for me was the rush Virtanen made up the middle in the 3rd. No goal, maybe not even a shot, but his size and speed forced the d-men back and this created great space for his teammates. This has to continue against Vegas. MacKewan likely returns against Vegas as they are just as heavy as the Blues.
  7. Can Marky carry them to the heights? Look at his run in Utica when he carried that club to the AHL finals.
  8. Is Torts that unique? Many teams have an identity that seems to transcend their coaches. Boston and Philly come to mind. On a individual basis many coaches have built their teams with particular characteristics. Trots comes to mind as one of the best ever. Look at the buy in he has got on the NYI, particularly Barzal. I like the Islanders to come out of the East.
  9. Game #5 one of his strongest physical games.
  10. Fans have to really give Green some props on his lineup last night. Also some serious cred on how he handles Virtanen. Green went with more speed last night and it paid off as the Blues seemed to be back on their heels a lot. Virtanen is still a work in progress. Where he eventually evolves too is still unknown. Bottom line his skills are there it is all about implementation. Speed, heavy game, passing, and both a heavy slapper and wrister. Green sees it but is not willing to settle for less than what Jake can be. I thought Green deserved a star last night.
  11. Took gold allocation to 25.5% and it popped to 26.63% with a bullion resurgence to $1985. Buffet buying Barrick and selling banks, airlines etc tends to confirm the gold trend. The awareness of Covid spending hasn't sunk in with most people yet.
  12. Canucks played well enough to win. I am a bit surprised the Blues didn't crash the net more. They were winning more puck battles than not.
  13. Marky plays until he loses. The Blues will be coming hard to the front of the net with two and even three players. Meyers was big enough to deal with some of this type of play but Stecher and Hughes are often overwhelmed. Meyers reach bailed him out of tough spots at times. The Blues weren't turning the puck as much in #2. If the Blues go 2 deep on the forecheck the Canucks could blow thru the neutral zone easier. Maybe more Canuck 2 on 1 breaks. With the home ice Green can pick his lines easier. IMHO the game will be won or lost based on how well the Vancouver d-core can hold up. Petey gets a goal and assist in #2 but his shot block in the 3rd likely won the game for Vancouver. The film will tell the Blues to clog up the net infront of Marky. It will be a tough game. An early Vancouver goal will be huge.
  14. I will be adding more gold stocks on Monday. Allocation up to 25%. Bad stuff coming.
  15. I always try to keep perspective. If fans reflect back on where this org was 4 years ago and where they are now it is amazing. Keeping that perspective I take these playoff games for what they truly are, a evaluation and development opportunity. Fans will get excited, especially if the team moves past the first round, but the real goal is still 2 - 3 years out. Benning is faced with some hard decisions as he evaluates how some players fit and others do not. Players who do not fit will be moved, hopefully for a return. CAP restrictions will force some players out. Two more seasons and this group should be serious CUP contenders. As fans we have enjoyed the past few years as prospects became players and now we can see the true molding of a CUP contender. As a fan from the beginning I have never seen this happen in the Canuck org. A team built around this large a core of drafted players. Beautiful to see.
  16. Rathbone will replace Stech.
  17. IMHO all 3 Blues goals were tainted by calls or non-calls. Petey's pass to Pearson was a beaut. Mott is unreal. Mac has made this team for good. Bo... Cannot add to perfection. Meyers: losing him is a disaster. Do you move Huggy over to RD and play Joulevi or do you play a RD from depth?
  18. Tell Meyers about your theory. Tell the 2011 crowd after there were no defense men left.
  19. It looked like his shoulder. Left side was down by looks and he wasn't moving it at all.
  20. A more realistic view is checking the Blues ozone TOI. They had many dominating shifts. That is not to say that Green cannot make adjustments. The Blues will also. I think they come even harder tonight. Targets being Hughes and EP40. More scrums and physicality. IMHO it is a no lose situation for the Canucks. The kids will be exposed to hardcore CUP play win or lose. Time for Jake to have one of his games!
  21. Hughes took a really solid hit in the 3rd. Didn't notice a particular reaction other than the wince. Of course the Blues know this is cumulative over a series so they will be back at him next game.
  22. Jake has to broaden his offer. Better defense might boost his TOI. Green has had him on the 2PP which recognizes his puck retrieval, slapper and wrister. This is the time where he has to show something or his future with the club will become suspect. With his size and speed he can shine. He has time to do that. This is his first playoff experience and he will benefit from it.
  23. St. Louis positives: They got their hits on EP40 and Hughes. That hit on Hughes in the 3rd looked like it hurt him. The Blues know they have to keep this up. They also had many shifts with extended TOI in the Van d-zone. At critical times their shots were missed. Beagle's hand must be bothering him as his FO % was was down. Canucks had a number of standout players. Overall solid effort. I particularly liked many of their rushes thru the neutral zone. Their lateral movement once gaining the blue line was impressive. Hughes is such an outstanding skater. They will really go after him next game. Pearson just does a lot of solid play. The PP was intimidating. Puck movement excellent.
  24. I don't think Sam needs a 'whipping boy'. When we talk about Tanev it is all about where the team will be in 3 years and making the moves now that build a serious contender. Tanev is a top pairing d-man on the current team. His play is raising his value, not just for his resigning but also for possibly moving him. Hard to watch current games and consider such a move. That is Benning's job and he has been pretty good at it.
  25. I haven't been on the side of retaining Tanev mainly because of his age and playing style. Many talk about how he has helped Hughes and Hughes himself has said the same. I suggest that Hughes has helped Tanev just as much. Hughe's ability to move the puck out of the d-zone takes immense pressure off Tanev. His most injury free season in many is the result. That doesn't change Tanev's reality in that his body has been beaten up a lot over his career. As a RD I don't see him being forced out of the top 4 right now. That said he won't be a top 4 d-man in 3 years when the Canucks seriously challenge for a CUP. Where does Benning invest his CAP and TOI over the next 2 years to prepare this young group for CUP contention? IMO both Edler and Tanev will likely be gone in 3 years. That's a big hole.
