But this situation pre-dated C-19 by years. Japan and Euroland have been using QE for years. Now the Americans are going full out. How many polls did we have in Canada prior to C-19 where 50% of the people said they couldn't take a $200 hit. It is like you said when distancing is eased what happens if consumers don't spend? I think you are reading the numbers correctly. Economic thought that when debt is large enough more debt will not increase GDP anymore. Companies that cannot generate enough revenue should go bankrupt. Governments have traditionally bailed them out to save jobs. The point will come when they cannot do this. Government revenue will take a hit as people quit paying taxes. This is too depressing. I PVR'ed the 2011 Game 6, Canucks vs Hawks so I will watch Burrows get his goal again... -

I was outside painting this afternoon and in a time frame of 1 1/2 hours there were 4 planes that flew over. This is over the Kootenays so what the heck? All 4 appeared to be headed south but that was by sound as I couldn't see them. -
How mny times did we see Stecher get beaten physically last year? My memory says lots. I give him full credit for the progress he has made and the fact that experience is making him a better player. Markstrom stole how many games last year? Bottom line is the existing d-core looked far better than they actually played in a good number of games. Benning's big challenge this summer is deciding who to keep Stecher or Tanev. Depending who is in the wings it wouldn't surprise me to see both gone.

Hey. I started back in the 70's when brokers on the Vancouver exchange used to cold call trying to get me to buy the latest hot mining stock. If I can pass anything along it is do your own research. Have a philosophy and stick with it. Listening to all the market noise tends to make you question your process. High ROE, high margins, low debt, good capital allocator and over time a defenseable moat. The older I get the more I insist on a dividend. Show me the money! -

I won't touch an insurance company. I cannot see how the business plan will work over time. There is no yield in bonds and stocks are further out on the risk curve. The demographic is working against them. Yes, both Manulife and SunLife have gone after the younger Asian population but I still don't like them. -

I read the book many years ago. It was very good. A step up from the Wealthy Barber. Simple finance is not taught in the schools which tells me that politicians do not want a financial literate people. That goes for both sides of the aisle. It would led to many embarrassing questions. -

Joe Biden Debates Donald Trump September 29

If the Democrats stick With Biden then his choice as VP becomes critical. Choosing that person on the basis of sex or race seems to appeal to progressives but IMHO the most important need is a very capable financial talent. It counters Trump's strength but more important the USA will need very solid financial leadership. I certainly don't see that type of leadership in the failed POTUS contenders nor do I see it in Obama's wife. -
Such a heart felt story of your journey with Shadow, Sharpshooter. I inherited my dog Kobe from my daughter when she moved to Calgary. I was very reluctant to take him as I have had many dogs over the years and inevitably the time comes to say good bye. Like your Shadow, Kobe lived to 16 years which is really good for a big dog. He was my buddy and followed me around the acreage without fail. He started having small strokes with little residual affects but they got progressively worse. He would come down into the basement TV room every night to check on me. He would stay for an hour or two and then climb back up the stairs as all was well. The day came when his time was done and it was almost like he was telling me with his eyes that he wanted to go. I carried him to the TV room with the stove burning and laid him beside it. The vet very kindly came to the house and we gave him the shot with his head on my lap. Like you I cried as the memories of him swirled. Gosh that was 7 years ago and I still get emotional. We haven't had another dog since. I doubt we will.

Australia is starting to get the same treatment from China that Canada has been getting. The Aussies want a WHO investigation into what China knew and when the knew it concerning C-19. Australia generates 69% of their GDP from exports if I remember correctly. The core of my holdings are utilities and pipelines which should hold up if a selloff happens. 16% cash to take advantage. I guess the issue is whether another crash goes L and recovery takes years? I don't think so. -

I think you are right. The Demos have had 4 years to craft a position other than Trump is a fool and yet they double down on another fool like Biden. Surely to goodness they could have found candidates that actually knew what they were talking about other than the list of idiots they trotted out. There are any number of potential candidates from the business world who could have gone after Trump on his home turf. -

If Trump is the loose cannon that most on here think then we should be confident that he will spill the beans. -
How about a weak people who don't have the moral conviction to defend what they know is just? In some ways it is like our defense of the country. We rely on the Americans and as a result are a quasi colony.

Not only that but a 21 year old Joulevi who was coming back from a year of injury. Last year Joulevi's challenge was getting a solid number of games under his belt and building from there. It appeared he was handled carefully during that process. Very disappointing the season was cut short especially since Utica was playoff bound. A lost opportunity for OJ.

I am a simple old boy. I sold my Shell position when it hit my sell target on the downside. As Kevin O'Leary is famous for saying "Shell is dead to me!". -
Trump talked about it weeks ago when he was talking about the malaria drug. The SK, French, Japanese and Aussies have been using the 2 in combination with some success.

Petrangelo will want $'s + term. I would be surprised if the Blues don't find some way of signing him. Signing Tanev or any other older UFA creates a long term issue. If Benning is comfortable with the scouting they did on Tryamkin we might have a surprise. Move Tanev before the deadline and resign Stecher on a 2 - 3 year deal. We also don't know what UFA's out there would like to come to Vancouver as they will be CUP competitve in a few years.

I think the NAV on BH is about $850 billion. $137 B is 16% cash. Not excessive IMO. BH has been my all time market winner. That said I had the money to buy 2 shares instead of the 1 that I bought. $14000 per share at the time. -
IMHO much of what happens on the RD comes down to Benning's view of resigning Tanev. Yes, Tanev did have a healthier season as his game benefited from an improved puck possession game. It took pressure off the d-zone. That said Van's d-core was not CUP competitive even tho the group was experienced. As Benning builds this team towards serious CUP competitiveness in 2023 there has to be changes. A big question to ask is how a older Tanev will stand up to CUP play. Covid cancellation of the season and playoffs was very unfortunate as tougher playoff games might have shed some light on how effective this group could be. Both Tanev and Stecher have to be resigned. What their camps ask for in salary and duration likely tells the tale. I do think Tryamkin will be signed on a 3 year bridge deal. Cannot be longer. I see him as a possible Tanev replacement at 2RD.

None political only because we are soft peddling the debt fallout of this event and how that debt will be paid for. It will take decades. We assume that governments will continue to be able to fund this debt. The numbers don't work now so how it will look in June is scary. The thing about investing is that you have to keep an open mind, look at new ideas and you have no choice but to live with the results. -
Has anyone seen any testing capability stats for Canada? A number of provinces are restarting their economies but IMHO that requires significant testing. Social distancing + testing combined with scaled startups. Read in the G&M this morning that the federal stockpile of PPE was grossly under prepared. It wouldn't have kept Ontario going for a week. SARs was supposed to be the wake up call? N95 masks still not available for the plebs. I am in rural BC and our local hospital has 22 beds of which only 4 were being used. No Covid in town other than 3 people in self isolation. Complaint at the hospital was they haven't been this slow in many years. People are not coming in. How many people will we lose because of this and not from Covid?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. When I talk about specific stocks I am not recommending buys or sells. On reflection it might sound like I am. If I mention a stock it is about my experience with it. Doing due diligence is always required. What is acceptable for one person might not be for another. -

There are so many forces at work in the markets I am often at a loss as to what info to believe. That said I have set 'sell' prices on most of my stocks and will be pretty cut throat on pushing the button if needed. As I said I do believe there will be another market drop in May as EPS down grades will likely set off another wave of fear. At the end of the day I still believe the world will slowly rebuild because they have to. I used to do the 'core and explore' but now worry about getting a return. CF from the portfolio! Pay me or I'm not interested. When solid blue chips are paying divs of 5 - 8% I have to look hard. For 5G have a look at KEYS. I made a nice return but sold it. Now seeing more positive reports. -

I think that RDS will be a double, just a question how long? I run a draft portfolio for my 2 boys to try and interest them in markets. That draft portfolio has one holding VBAL. It outperformed my other portfolios very signficantly in the sell off. Only down 2% YTD. I have read some crticism of Vanguard on their performance with VBAL, VGROW and VCON. If I remember correctly it was about their chasing performance to much. Vanguard rep is pretty solid and their Mers are very cheap. I hear you on the FOMO. I expect a market pullback come May so I am not worried about opportunity. On the 30th I will redo my analysis and identify my changes. These ETF's are an opportunity for value guys. Many of the ETF's buy strictly on allocation and not fundamentals. That volitility should provide opportunity. I do allocate but the value has to be there first.
