A lot of Brookfield, couple of banks, utilities and USA technology. Oh and gold. I am comfortable with that. -

Where are you getting your info? Anytime I dealt with a bank they wanted guarantees up the ying yang. The MIC's I own have halted redemptions for the foreseeable future. -

I don't expect much predictability until Q3 or even Q4. Like I said I won't move more money in until we hit the March lows again. That might not happen . As you said patience is hard so I will stick to my criteria. -

I'm 6.5% away from being even on the year. I have my allocations set and still have 16% cash waiting to go back in. My target buying point will be when the market drifts down to the YoY lows. Huge amount of liquidity in markets. I am assuming that eventually investors will continue to move assets into equities rather than bonds. Also have a allocation of 12% gold. I guess we will see where this shakes out by June/July. If a vaccine comes along it will be positive for markets. -
Millions of Canadians on government handouts. At what point do people start having their mortgages foreclosed on? DO the Feds buy up all the defaulted mortgages? Before the virus hit poll after poll talked about the over extended debt situation for 50% of the population. Vancouver fears bankruptcy. No government, even the delusional Liberals, can afford to keep sending money out. In 2008 the strong CDN $ and oil revenue sheltered Canada from what happened down south.

I see Canada is doubling down on re-establishing PPE production in China. At what point does the JT government realize that having production capability in Canada is critical? Farm out pills and PPE to China and farm out defense to the Americans. Long term planning at its finest.

Alberta to send PPE to Ontario, Quebec and B.C.
Boudrias replied to Ryan Strome's topic in Off-Topic General
Do you really think people hate Alberta? More like the gift horse that keeps on giving. Now that AB cannot give any more (equalization) we will see how much $ come the other way. I wouldn't hold my breath. -
Vancouver makes a case for more free money. Shouldn't be a problem as the Feds can run the money presses for an extra 5 minutes. What happens when the Feds start buying up the defaulted mortgages which are inevitable?

Just watched a Malcolm Gladwell clip over at the G&M. He is questioning the ability to keep most of the population sequestered in an attempt to prevent infection. Almost certain that we will all get C-19 at some point. He thinks the isolation strategy is an attempt to get health care up to speed on dealing with the number of people infected. Most likely people will return to work using new skills of distancing and regularly disinfection. The economic fallout from C-19 is not yet realized. The government cannot keep this number of people on the dole for several months. At some point mortgage foreclosures will really start to amp up.

[SIGNING] Goldobin signs with CSKA Moskow
Boudrias replied to Beefcake's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Never saw any of his games in Utica this past year but apparently he was working on his d-side game. I believe he was at close to 1.0 ppg this season with a decent +/-. IMHO Goldy is getting a tad more credit for his ozone game than is warranted. His conversion rate on scoring ops was not that good. If it was he would likely be in the NHL somewhere. One has to ask why other clubs didn't take a chance if he had turned the corner this past season. My issue with Goldy was more about puck battles and going to the net more aggressively. He has superior ice vision but not enough physicality. I am not suggesting had to be another Jake with big hits. As you mentioned both Leivo and Pearson both have better balanced games. Goldy had to add that to his game to change his trajectory. Once established he might have been able to change again. Goldy had to show NHL scouts and coaches and GM's that he had the drive to put it all on the line. -

Well I am sitting at about 26% cash or equivalent. Really going hardcore on trading limits. Setting my allocations and will not buy until we hit at or below the March lows. I chirp about world debt and the inevitable collapse in many governments. Yet I continue to invest and then question my psychological makeup. I recently read Gladwell's book "Talking to Strangers". It had a lot of psychology in it. Humans seem to be conditioned to view people in a positive light. Cognitive self confirmation is huge in investing. -
The idea of whether the story was true or not doesn't hold much water on this thread.

Extreme volatility and earnings reports haven't even hit the market yet for Q1. I suspect a lot of investors are anticipating a V recovery which is suspect. Establish your selling points and put in limits. Even then your sells might not be filled. AT the height of the March selloff I put a open market sell on a $26 stock and it was filled at 21.50. -
This is the type of thing that has to get more visibility. There should be no doubt in people's mind that news media has a political and corporate agenda. It should be quite clear that most of these outlets have business plans that are failing. They jump on weather events, pandemics and yes Hollywood's latest extreme so they can generate traffic to their broadcasts. It doesn't change their reality as viewers desert them for podcasts and Facebook or whatever fits their outlooks. In Canada Trudeau in essence nationalized most Canadian broadcast and print media by waiving $600 million at them. The truly scary part is that the majority of Canadians let him.

The MSM should be exposed for every fake news item they run. CBS has run footage of an Italian hospital setting and passed it off as a NYC hospital and again as a Philidelphia hospital. Done it twice and apologized. Where is the accountability? CNN is so ridiculous I don't know why any thinking person would tune in there.

You sound like a Trumper.

What you are saying has a lot of truth, no doubt. I am in the armchair and my knowledge of the true status is based on some BS. That said Canada like all nations had the experience of SARs and H1N1 to warn of this scenario. Where are the experts that we so readily defer to? There has to be accountability or how do learn from this? IMHO the laid back nature of Canadians is more about the living standard than innate "niceness". Yes, I agree that the decision to shut the country down is a huge one and will have massive ramifications. IMHO the beliefs that we as Canadians have operated from will be fundamentally changed. I do not think that earning a living in this country will be near as easy as it was. That said we are a country nearing 40 million strong and do have strengths we can grow from.

The herd mentality that exists on this thread is staggering. Group think gone wild. To me hating Trump is a cop out, easy think. USA media and the Democrats have done such a poor job of offering up a truthful message it empowers politicians like Trump. If people were truly into truth the financial impact on the debt facing all governments in the world would be front and center. The USA is in big trouble and sorry it is not all Trump. That doesn't give him an out and in fact incriminates him along with all the others. People don't understand the full impact of what is coming. When people realize that governments cannot deliver on their programs all hell will break out. It won't make any dif who is running things the Dems or GOP. This will not be another 2008 and Canada will not have the oil revenue to save it.

Canadian government has done well? Apparently Canadian Intelligence informed the federal government about C-19 in early January. Yet they towed the line from WHO and continued open borders and did not initiate a rapid buildup in PPE. While the most successful countries fighting the virus have used face protection Canada discounted the idea and yet now suggest maybe. The N95 masks have to be reserved for health workers because of short supply. Testing? No matter the news most people cannot get one. Lots of questions to be asked but few are. As is typical with this government when accountability rears its ugly head they simply changed the narrative.

How does the virus C-19 impact the NHL talks on a new USA broadcast contract. IMHO Bettman was already in a strong position and now that people are spending huge time in their homes it should get stronger. Content is king and USA broadcasters are desperate for that content. I am hoping that each NHL club will end up with new broadcast revenue in the $5 to $10 million range. As ambitious as that sounds the teams have to be playing. The loss of revenue in the NHL could be huge. We can only hope that they will be playing by fall.

Qtrade is pretty decent. 6.95 trades. Biggest beef is they cannot get their statement out until the 18th or 19th. -

Joe Biden Debates Donald Trump September 29
Boudrias replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
The Dems have a rescue candidate waiting in the wings. They'll spring him when Joe has some kind of medical issue. It should be Bill Gates but more likely Ms. Obama. -
It is the responsibility of national governments to identify threats to the country and develop plans to address them. Canada has not done a good enough job over many decades. Capacity to produce emergency equipment, military supplies and where possible pharmaceuticals. I harp on national security but I consider inadequate measures the biggest issue facing Canada.

That is great news. Any plans to return to BC? We have been seeing pics of tourist sites that are absolutely packed. That would make me nervous about a reboot.
