[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Dallas Stars | Mar. 25, 2023

One of my concerns entering the Rutherford/Allvin era was the record of Rutherford in Carolina and Pitt. Yes I know he won cups in Pitt but then he had Crosby and Malkin. If memory serves he made questionable decisions. Allvin was a complete unknown. So I had lots of concerns as a Canuck fan. On the whole I think they have done a good job so far. I loved the Tocchet hire as I thought Boudreau was a glad hander. Nice guy but when Rutherford said the team had no structure or identity last April he was bang on. The real challenge this summer will be trying to trade some more assets to create CAP space. I am more confident that this management can pull that off. I might have been a tanker but these wins might be worth the draft standing to show ownership, fans and players that there is light at the end of the tunnel. OK, I am still a tanker to stay in the lottery. Maybe no Bedard but still a chance to move up. I can’t help myself. -

Your point is exactly the case. The season was shot 20 games ago. The opportunity to draft in the top 5 is now gone. If the Canucks had put this winning streak together playing the core with reduced TOI and by rotating Abby players through those games then so be it. To an extent that has been done and they have played well. I have been a tanker since December for this season. A lot has changed. The biggest move was hiring Rick Tocchet and his assistants Foote and Gonchar. Allvin then traded Horvat and traded for Hronek. All this signals a real change of direction for the team. Picking at #5 would have added a premiere piece to solidify the turnaround. All this aside if the Canuck brain trust of coaches and GM see value in their approach then so be it. Clearly the opportunity to play with the existing core of the Vancouver Canucks will attract many players and that might be the preferred option. -
(Rumour). Jake Livingstone D - NCAA - NHL Availability
Boudrias replied to SilentSam's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Totally agree. IMHO Bear is not a top 4 defender on a CUP contender. I just don’t know if he has much more upside? If Livingstone has confidence in his ability he can challenge for a top 4 role with the Canucks next year. I don’t think the book is closed here yet. I want Jake signed here because he is a Creston boy. Not hockey talk but talk from the heart. All this aside if Jake decides to go elsewhere there are lots of other options. PA is busy. -
John Garrett to retire after this season
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
KB3 is making more money mouthing the pro Laffer HNIC stuff than he would doing Garrett’s job. I doubt if KB could play the middle ground well enough. Will miss Cheech a lot. Liked his humor. Did anyone have a better pair of eyes for spotting tips? His observations were a treat. -

The fans were screaming for a couple of saviours and management caved.

Sorry Ron the only religion this Liberal government will ever get is figuring out how to bleed Canada out faster than they already are.

I have to admit I am getting antsy to see Hronek play at least 10 games before the season ends. If he can anchor the 2nd pairing then we really have something. Meyers is likely gone. Can Hronek stabilize OEL’s game is likely the question to ask. Is there a LD in the works that can take the 2 LD away from OEL ? IMO Hughes has moved past the thought that he needs a partner to back his d side game. Each season his overall game gets better. What I am trying to say is that if Livingstone signed with Vancouver Hughes could be the vet that helps him establish his NHL game.

But Luke Schenn won’t put up 38 points playing 3D. We are all fans of what he brought the team this season but bottom line it was a terrible season for the Canucks. The team has to build towards a better future and the TOI Luke would take should be invested in younger players who might mature to be members of a Cup contender. That is why I say he should be a 7/8D. We don’t know yet whether Meyers will be gone or not. If he is there could be a bigger role for Schenn. Obviously a lot of uncertainty moving towards fall.

Are they good enough to make playoffs? With a decent start maybe they do. We all hope Hronek is a 2D but I can’t say that yet. If he is then all we have to do is find a #3, #4D. Then we have to get a C3 that is a serious PK talent. So no we are not a serious Cup contender yet. I agree that this core is one that can be built around. That is why I wanted a high draft pick. It would have filled one of those critical needs at C on the D. We still might get that but I wanted the best odds we could get. The Canucks have a far better prospect pool which could also provide one of those key players. Better prospects and better development. -
My experience at the municipal level is that the elected people usually defer to those in administrative jobs. A retired town administrator told me that he produced background folders for discussion points at Council meetings and made them available a week in advance. He said most of the councillors did not review the material before the meetings. This placed the administration in a quasi political role as goals were identified and pursued. IMO most people enter politics with good intent. Many are not particularly qualified for the process of effectively running an organization. Weak political direction lends itself to be dominated by assertive people whether elected or not and whether capable or not.

Remember those long scoring droughts Bo used to have. Couldn’t buy a point.

Apparently SVB didn’t hedge their loan book and when people started moving their money to other banks for a better return they ran out of money. My banker friend was quite surprised and disgusted that basic banking practices were not followed.

I haven’t been able to watch a game for over 3 weeks. Is Bear playing with Hughes regularly? I just didn’t see him as. A top 4 d-man.

He won’t move it because Arizona is one of the top media markets in North America. The NHL sells media exposure that encompasses all those markets. The Yotes are a necessary embarrassment. -

I am a tanker but your post was one of the best arguments yet as to why the team should push the win column. If the tank is fading then improved value in some of the players could generate trades with picks and prospects. I hope Allvin can recover our 2nd rdr. -
I think the Miller contract forms a basis that can be used. I appreciate the forward/defender particulars. Rather than dollars the team compensation should be based on. % of the CAP. Canucks cannot measure the value of their contracts based on the latest contract signed by another team. Market value is a consideration but cannot the sole criteria. It appears this is why Yzerman let him move on, not sure of that? I want to see this kid play at least 20 games before serious thought on value.

[Report/Rumour] Ethan Bear Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I really want to see Hronek play before a deal is made with Bear. Maybe a better idea about Meyers as well. They have until July. Term might become an issue. He is a 5/6 to me with the ability to move up if needed. -
Investing in the stock market - Discussion
Boudrias replied to AV's Coin's topic in Off-Topic General
Credit Suisse has been part of the walking dead for the last 5 years. A number of Euro banks are questionable. It is all about the American system. I don’t see a financial collapse. There are always weak pieces with weak business models. TD and RBC are already scooping up some of their assets. IMHO blanket indemnification is the wrong approach. The pain of bad decisions has to be felt in the market place. Panic can cause a overreaction.
