  1. I am sure that happened and hopefully there was a process for dealing with it. The Fernie Tim’s had some kind of issue that cost the franchisee his business. That location has never recovered in what 4 years. That at is not a universal situation. Close friend of mine have a D-Q and are quality people. They brought workers in and bought a nice house for them to live in. Eventually these folks moved on once they got established and moved up the wage scale. They still keep in contact with my friends but now live in bigger cities.
  2. Never heard of USA gas coming into BC. Refined gas leaves AB into Montana by truck but there might be a pipeline, not sure. B.C. Ships some aviation product south by pipe and to YVR I believe. Self defeating to import USA gas as all the taxes would be added back in. I might not be up to date on all this it has been awhile. We all know of USA retailers at the border. In my day there were no state gas taxes it was all federal. USA pricing is a good yardstick to compare pricing but they have variables we don’t have. This is a complex industry. As I said before when the province divorces retail from the refiners then I will take them more seriously. Politicians know damn well what it takes. Establish published rack pricing and let retailers arrange their own freight to their tanks. Simple in my mind but it would undermine refiner profit structures on already small refineries. That could increase costs tha5 would be passed on.
  3. That might be gas shipped down TMX and then shipped south to the USA.
  4. Most gasoline in BC is not trucked from AB. Most comes down that dreaded TMX pipeline. That serves load racks in Kamloops and Burnaby. Truck tankers load at these racks and deliver from there. I don’t believe refined product is brought in on ocean tankers. Of course Parkland refines crude but that crude comes by Trans Mountain.
  5. Not a Timmy fan because of the quality of their product and frankly the service. It is like they defy you to deal with them. But Starbucks isn’t much dif. Having been in in the service industry the operators are faced with certain realities. Staff turnover is high virus or not. Unpaid sick leave is probably not an issue. It is how do they open the doors with enough staff to operate. How many of their staff will work whether sick or not because they need the paycheque? Next time you go to one of these sites do a head count behind the counter. Operators usually try to give staff as many hours as possible so staff can earn enough money. Lessening hours and hiring more people would give more flexibility to their business. Top that with difficulty in finding new hires. There is a reason why you see so many Filipinos working there. They are willing to work when many are not. A tough situation.
  6. His math doesn’t add up. As you pointed out BC pays government tax that AB doesn’t.
  7. True enough but then all 3 of these guys did that. I am not defending the spending of one over the other. All politicians are spending beyond means to repay. People’s expectations of what is affordable exceeds all reality. There is no politician who thinks he can get elected otherwise. What really disappoints me is that non politicians are not speaking up enough to expose and explain the inevitable fallout.
  8. I think Trump is a lot smarter than George and Obama. They are more likeable people. Bottom line is that Trump has put more money in people ‘s pockets. He has also brought troops home and not started any wars. Trump is forcing allies to actually spend more money on their defence. Bringing jobs home.
  9. Jake has to be 2nd next to Petey for hitting posts this. Could have had 30 goals otherwise.
  10. You had better rework your numbers. $1 per litre x 10,000 litres = $10,000 in gross sales. Every thing seems to be profit in your calculation? You can get about 13,000 litres on a single axle truck.
  11. Just remember for every seller there has to be a buyer.
  12. What in the world are they invested in? Bonds and stocks are all down.
  13. I will be on Sugar Beach in 1 hour. I fly back into Washington State and ten drive home. My only worry is they shutdown internal air. If so I stay on insurance claim or look for a sailboat.
  14. George kinda lost me in his 2nd term when he didn’t tackle health care. 9/11 had to be rough. His popularity recovered somewhat when he dissed Trump a lot. GOP is supposed to be free traders which means globalization. I think the Bushes gave access to the USA market to easily as did Obama. Trump capitalized on that.
  15. All you say is true. I say lock in your mortgage because at some point the government options will run out and the real cost of risk will reassert itself. As much as the government thinks they can keep creating money they cannot. It will get very ugly.
  16. I had a A&W in the old days and saw Timmy’s as competition. Used to stop in to keep tabs. My experience was that they were almost defying the public to deal with them. Floor layouts were bad. Service bad. Most important the coffee was just OK. Absolutely Mikey D is far better coffee. Oh ya Timmy muffins are goey inside.
  17. Sorry not driving to AB for gas - 3 hours away. I drive 10 minutes to Idaho. When last at home 126.9 in Idaho it was 79.9 CDN $. Probably changed now.
  18. Kasich had a good middle of the road rep. Gov of a large state. Had experience in Washington.
  19. Get a locked in rate for as long as you can. These low rates will not last.
  20. BC’ers love to pay 55% more for their gas than Albertans because it makes them feel more environmentally holy. I just drive across the border and buy it at AB price. I feel great.
  21. I agree. I like Kasich and thought he had a shot until Trump steam rolled everyone.
  22. Since when has accountability been a thing with JT?
  23. Does that mean Turdeau will support me here in Maui as I self quarantine? Might take another month.
  24. Funny how both were in TV. Reagan was a top notch communicator with principals. That said he got a constant stream of vitriol questioning his age and smarts. The image of the old guy hovering over the button was constant, early on.
  25. I wonder how much the virus will impact the CAP? Revenue will be down.
