  1. To be clear you are saying the GOP is more democratic than the Democrats. The same Democratic Party that was the front for the KKK for decades?
  2. Yes they could but if the incidence is higher whether recognized or not it would drive the negative stats down. People are freezing out over the death rate but that number could be exaggerated by unaccounted cases.
  3. How do we know the true infection rate? If people can have the virus and beat it off without knowing they actually had it. They could simply write it off as a cold.
  4. You seem to want a $/hour number and to an extent it is irrelevant. Not for those who need help for sure. What is needed in one area won’t be the same elsewhere. What an economy can afford is the starting point. Hard decisions but necessary. I doubt that will happen. Understanding how business works + financial literacy is the base to start from.
  5. Any wage is a function of the company’s ability to pay it. Either the company has a high enough margin and revenue stream or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t then it has to take money from other parts of the business to pay for labor. Survivablity then becomes a question. Minimum wage cannot become the standard. People on minimum wage are exploited by all facets of society better organized than they are. Having a clear idea of how business works is a starter.
  6. Minimum wage or not IMO it is about a family being able to sustain itself. Every year that governments deficit spend they lessen the buying power of what money is brought into the home. It is inflationary and subtle. Politicians don’t want people to truly understand what they are doing. They make promises they cannot pay for and tell voters they will get the money from the ‘rich guys’. That never works as the economy corkscrews downward. The socialist/communists like Sanders always point to the socialist dream countries in Euroland but doesn’t tell you they are broke. The Brits wanted out for a reason. If politicians truly wanted to help the people they would teach financial literacy in the schools. Neither side left or right do this, why? Any citizen with a strong financial understanding cannot be duped by those who want to exploit him. They would ask embarrassing questions of would be leaders who in all reality have trouble running a lemonade stand.
  7. Lots of pics Joe. The Juneau Beach Centre is the focal point for Canadians in Normandy. It was built thru the efforts of Canadian vets who served in Normandy. I walked the landing beaches and you have to wonder what those men were thinking. They are call the Greatest Generation for good reason IMHO. You asked about the countryside. We were driven inland to the Beny Sur Mere Cemetery. Rolling farmlands. My mother had asked me to visit her cousin’s grave there and I thought as we drove what he would have seen. Farmland not unlike where he grew up. The cemetery had 2400 graves. Frankly it angered me as I saw all those graves. Angered because Canadians died there in 2 wars because Euros couldn’t get there act together. To this day the Euros tell us how we should live. I would never send my grandsons to fight ever. As a a nod to your ancestors Joe. We stayed in Bayeux where the famous Tapestry is displayed. It depicts William the Conqueror’s invasion of England. What I never learned in school was Harold and William were half brothers who had it out at Hastings to see who would be King of England. Yes a inbred lot. No wonder my ancestors got out of there and came to America.
  8. When I talk about weakness it is the skill level not health. We
  9. My dad was RCAF bomber mechanic. Spent about 16 months in England. Worst job was cleaning the body parts out of aircraft before they could start working on them. He never talked much about it. He had. 2/ 50 cal bullets I got to keep. We we were in a local restaurant when I was a kid. There was a fellow at a table talking to a bowl of soup, looked drunk to me. As we passed him on the way out my Dad clapped him on the back and said how’s it going Frankie. I asked my Dad who he was and Dad said one of the bravest men I know. That’s it. When I mentioned his name to Mom she told me Frankie was a bomber pilot from the war. I was at Juno Beach in October and at the Benny Sur Mere Cemetary. Truly humbling experience. It brought tears to my eyes.
  10. I don’t think the existing situation will continue. Trump is squeezing trade partners already. Although under reported some industry is coming back to the USA. Irregardless when the debt bubble burst and it will it won’t make any difference whether Trump is in power or not, trade barriers will go up. Whether GOP or Dems protectionism escalates. I think globalism has been dying for a decade now.
  11. Last spring I said the Canucks would make playoffs this year. To me it was incidental to the maturing process the young core would go thru as they developed toward true contention in ‘23. That IMO is the realistic projection. The weakness in this club is the d-core and better players start arriving next year. As as per usual in Canuckland the fans get excited and place unrealistic expectations/hopes on the players. The core has been together for 2 years for the most of them. Fans were happy with early success even tho the d-core was being outplayed and Marky was stealing games. When the team faces a little reality many fans feel comfortable/justified in calling for Green’s head. There could be coaching changes this summer but I expect Green will be back next fall. I still consider this group is ahead of the curve.
  12. We’re down in Kihei and the whales are really hopping this year. Miles of beaches and I think we have walked all of them. My wife and I used to climb the West Maui Mountains every year. My version of the Sedin Grouse Grind. For young families Maui is great because of the beaches. Go Canucks.
  13. Well I am in Maui too and I am reading this thread to get a feel for the game. When Torts goes after TG I want the straight goods. The anti Green stuff is a tad premature. He is not going anywhere.
  14. When the Dems lose to Trump the list of rationales should be a SNL extravaganza which of course won’t happen. Their absolute failure in selecting a candidate that could seriously challenge Trump is incredible. Instead of moving back to the center they went with the nutbars. There are left of center businessmen who could have challenged Trump on his turf.
  15. I would suggest the movement of jobs overseas was a combination of corporations wanting to produce their goods cheaper but it was also SJW who wanted wealth redistribution on a global scale. I would also suggest this is a big reason why people from this camp hate Trump so much. His MAGA movement craps on both these camps. Both Amazon and Walmart are companies that source major portions of their merchandise overseas. They’re also very competitive and have demonstrated significant savings for consumers. How does this all balance out. IMHO it has not benefited the USA enough and is likely the reason why TRUMP has as much support as he does. He took what was a Demo strength and turned it against them.
  16. Someone was calling for Boucher to play. IMO opinion you dance with who brung ya. Bailey and Big Mac have been with the team. What is said and felt in the dressing room is as important as making playoffs this year. I have no problem with Green’s coaching. This group simply has to play at the level they are capable of. That said Marky is the MVP of the group and his loss is huge.
  17. As .good a season as Jake is having is there any other player who has hit the metal more? I can see him hitting 30 next year. He usually drives play and has a shot that over powers tenders.
  18. You say failure to make playoffs means TG is gone. You want to insert Boucher into the lineup in what amounts to a desperation move. Boucher has no NHL success and will not be on this team for CUP contention come ‘23. While I can agree to Big Mac playing today with either LE or Roussel sitting that is as far as I would take it. 20 games to go you have to dance with who brought ya. The messaging being sent to the young core is as important as actually making playoffs.
  19. Well I was kinda responding tongue in cheek even tho that was what happened. I never saw any cats or dogs on menus when I was in China. I had a Peking duck dinner that was hard to eat. Kinda jelly like meat.
  20. You have to think that picking up a blue chip stock with a +5% yield has to be solid. At some point the virus is neutralized and the search for yield will return. I might wait a couple of weeks yet.
  21. They were taken off the menu across China.
  22. I remember at the beginning of the season that his playing 25-30 games would be ideal. That is where he should come in at or even a tad more. Very valuable experience for Demko. He is benefiting from this playoff run just like many of his teammates. It really is a process.
  23. Jeez I never got my membership card. My being a tanker was all about a timeline and the acquisition of assets that would led towards a CUP contender. Actually making playoffs this year is a season early but the compete to getting there is necessary and valuable. I don’t understand Stawns point. The current roster is not a serious CUP contender. The last pieces of the d-core are in the prospect pool now. Canuck fans should be very excited.
  24. I don’t agree with most of what you have to say but can agree with you on this. If the virus triggers a recession that is deep a crisis in confidence of government will likely ensue. With the existing political split in America it does not bode well for anyone. When government cannot meet their social contracts order will break down quickly. No one today has any grasp of the fallout. Immigrants from countries who have failed know. I am a boomer and can recall stories my parents and grandparents told me. Very scary. Debt is the issue. When confidence is lost it won’t make any difference what Trump says, Sanders or J.T. These people are part of the problem. They come from a long line of BS’ers who were quite happy to load up the people with debt they knew couldn’t be paid. There is always an accounting and it is never pretty.
  25. While I consider Americans our greatest allies I am also amazed at how naive Canadians are. They take some pride at their supposed superiority but do almost nothing to prove it. The Americans, Russians and Chinese are threats to Canadian sovereignty. A strong Canada can assert a more independent economic destiny and thusly a more independent political pathway. These countries want a compliant source of resources and a market for their value added goods. Exploitation of Canada’s energy resources was a generational opportunity to establish true Canadian independence. That wealth could have created a path independent of foreign influence. Instead of a concrete plan we have nothing and will end up with nothing. A country with a commodity dependence and 1st world tastes.
