  1. Yup, Albertans are just terrible money managers. Yet 50% of the Canadian population are bordering on bankruptcy. They all must have moved to Alberta RS.
  2. Nice to see you back Rob. Still in Europe?
  3. Rotary has been trying to eradicate polio for 30 years. It was isolated down to 2 countries then broke out again. Modern travel was blamed as air flight quickly spreads disease. I was shocked to realize that vaccination itself can infect people. Even China is having cases of polio.
  4. What a pleasure to watch Gaudette's evolution in the NHL. Terrific speed and puck handling. Wicked wrister. Getting some PP2 time. He is having a great season but next year should be the big eye opener.
  5. The Edler hit deep in the SJ zone last night was classic Edler IMO. I said last spring that this team would make playoffs and I stand by that. Edler will have a huge role and since the d-core is the weakest aspect of this team his game is critical. The challenge in CUP play is always about how the heavy game comes to bear. The youth on the Canucks have to experience that for their long term success. Edler can provide a level of physicality that most on the Canucks cannot come close to. Edler, Myers, Fantenerg and Benn can play that game. Only Edler and Myers are top 4 d-men. Vancouver defense is the biggest weakness on the team. Bennings work here is not over. that said I don't want him to make TDL deals that will move any youth or picks out of the org for a playoff bid. Make room for Tryamkin's return and some games for Rafferty. I have advocated for Tanev's trade for 3 years but think that won't happen now. He will likely be resigned unless playoffs expose his physical downside. IMHO the reduced TOI for Tanev and Edler has benefited both their games.
  6. Sutter has had 2 strong games since his return. Last night against SJ he led his line IMO. Solid game.
  7. I agree with you. If the goal is to ice a CUP competitive team in 3 years it does come down to hard choices. Ericksson was a easy target for some kind of axe simply because of the numbers. Benning has to skate a fine line of having enough vets to cushion and mentor the younger players. Those young players will be the core in 3 years. The Pearson-Horvat-Ericksson line are vets who are playing a major role in the 3 year transition. We know Ericksson, Roussel, Sutter, Beagle and Schaller won't be on that team. Baer and Goldy are already gone from last year. It is a timing process as youth will push harder for them to leave.
  8. IMHO Jake has a physical presence on the ice that is intimidating to opposing players. I am not talking a physical hit like Edler made deep in the SJ zone last night. Jake can do that but his physical presence manifests more in his puck possession. He is big enough and fast enough that defenders have to respect his threat. This is giving him more possession time and thusly better ops to throw passes or take shots. His wrister is absolutely intimidating. While BB can battle he does not control the game the same way JV does. How many fans would think that Virtanen could be a PP2 QB from the blue line. Thru the season Green has slowly amped up Jake's role. Green has seen things in Virtanen's game that are now being realized. As I have said before Jake should have a Green bobble doll that he nods to every day. Both Green and Benning showed the patience it takes t build winners.
  9. Goldy and Baer are having seasons that should led to trades. A long Calder run is very valuable as well so there is a judgement call by Benning as to who is moved. IMHO both these players should be moved for picks. The way NHL coaches are being fired, even GM's, the odds are there will be deals made by the TDL.
  10. They must have been crossing east of Yahk. The border is flown regularly by USA choppers. Always wanted to take that Moyie to Wardner trail.
  11. McCann is impressive every time I see him play for Pitt. He was on their 1PP when Crosby was out. As a fan I have no idea what or if his attitude problems might be. That is up to Benning and his scouts. I rest easy with their decision. Pearson has been a huge boost to the top 6. He is very solid both ways.
  12. Jake has a presence on the ice. Plain and simple he stands out. I watched Lawson Crouse the other night as a comparable. Crouse is another nice looking player but Jake is far more noticeable. People talk about his skating and board work which stands out but I particularly like his shot both slapper and wrister. His wrist shots are over powering.
  13. Exactly! I went into this season simply wanting Joulevi to play a full season and thought his ppg was incidental. He doesn't need NHL games this year. A nice Calder run and as you said a off season building his body. Rafferty on the otherhand can use some NHL games. My fear with the Canucks is that a playoff run short changes the prospects. Playoffs for the Canucks are also valuable but Benning might hang onto players in lieu of trading them to make space for younger prospects. Asset management is becoming more important as Benning now has assets that he can develop or trade. What Benning has accomplished over his tenure is truly impressive. The most depth I have seen in the org in 50 years.
  14. Jebus Sam I am starting to worry about you. If Tryamkin doesn't come your heart will break. If he does come your likely lose it and have some kind of euphoric episode. I thought his agent said Benning had quit calling? 41 days to what? I thought his KHL team could keep him until June if they wanted. Anyways calm down big fella!
  15. Some impressive concepts and stats in your link. I started and ran a number of businesses in my career but never did a ground up product development. My businesses all centered around consumer services. The market was there it was only a question of how much market share I could take and the profitability of that revenue. Running budgets to determine costs were my bread and butter. It was always about the cash flow and margin. Always consider your exit strategy even if you postpone it. Once I sold my operating businesses I transitioned into stock investing. I have always loved the liquidity in the markets compared to owning hard assets and trying to sell those. I also like the idea of 'partnering' with some pretty smart people when I buy the stock in their companies. My real home run has been getting in early on the Brookfield group. Also forgot that I was in very early on Buffet's Berkshire. If you move forward on your company good luck. If the cash flow allows start contributing to an investment account. Invest in blue chip dividend payers. You can build a separate cash flow from your business.
  16. Benning doesn't go after Schenn because of the names you have on your list. Schenn has got into 15 games with TBay this year. IMO the Canuck depth and the possible return of Tryamkin does not work for Schenn. If there was a deal for Stecher that might change.
  17. Loved the game. Ericksson: another strong game. His scoring ops are going up. Pearson: kinda sneaky good. Love his positioning. Jake: He brings a bit of unpredictability and strong puck possession in the ozone. He likely does not stay there but his TOI on that line bodes well for playoffs. Sutter: comes back in after 2 practices and plays a great game. He brings strong d-zone coverage but also has an offensive threat that Schaller does not have. Marky: another insane effort. He makes the Van d-core look better than they are. Markstrom needs more breaks bring Demko back in. D-zone: I hate those touch or short passes in the d-zone with less than 5 minutes left in the game. Caused a few turnovers that could have costed. Thought Fantenburg had a good game. Stecher is a hard worker and has improved this season. That said I worry about his game during playoffs where the play is heavier. They have to play Rafferty at some point this spring. Ferlund: If/when he comes back I think he takes Roussel off. You need players like Ferlund and Roussel in heavier games so both would be part of a playoff run.
  18. Glad that Joulevi's game is climbing. I'm not worried about his ppg. The #1 goal this year was to play a meaningful number of games so that he can shake the injury bug. Not overly concerned whether he gets NHL games this year. A solid season in Utica with a number of playoff games would be perfect. The number of games he has lost in the past 2 seasons would set any player back. Fans have to be patient.
  19. Love the Canuck colours. Go Big Tuna! Gauds will get a beaut with a Shotgun assist.
  20. Jets can play any kind of game needed. Can skate and hit. They can also hit the net which Buffalo and Minny could not. That said we can trust in Marky and hope one of the forward lines has a standout game.
  21. As Stierlitz outlined above how soon Tryamkin could come has a lot to do with whether his KHL team wants to let him. If it is late April it might make more sense for him to wait until next fall. They could bring Rafferty up and have a look at him instead.
  22. Do you think that if AB was manufacturing that equipment that the Liebels would be ignoring the human rights violations the Saudis regulalry carry out? That said if it wasn't Canada it would be the Americans or Brits or French who would be supplying them.
  23. Isn't it up to Tryamkin's KHL team whether they release him when they are eliminated or hold him until the end of his contract in June?
  24. I liked your earlier post about the process of maturing a team. IMHO that is what the Canucks are going thru this season. They have a core of young players who should challenge for a CUP in 3 years. I thought the results of the game flattered the Canucks to an extent. The PP was a disaster but the ongoing pressure in the ozone was at times impressive. I was actually shocked at the Minny team. They lost the game because they could not beat Marky but more because they could not hit the net. The Minny offence was to put it mildly unenthusiastic. There is a problem there. 3 players consume 25% of the team CAP. It probably starts there. Perhaps a future warning for the Canucks. I have been projecting Motte into more of an offensive role on the 3rd line. The player that would be dropped down would be Roussel. Yesterday's game showed why Roussel is needed. He is a unpredictable physical force that the team needs. Unfortunately he takes penalties based more on rep than actual penalties. What do we have to do to get Kass back? Love that guy.
