Gee! I guess Jersey didn't want him either.

I thought he had a real shot at a top 4 role. Don't understand his beef about TOI or even the issue with being benched. His TOI was slightly more than 16 minutes and as the season limped home he was getting a taste on the PP. I was shocked when it was announced he was headed home. If he had a confused idea of where he should be then his agent needed to educate him along with the Van coaching as to where they saw his future. They all had exit interviews so I would have loved to be a fly that day. Some talk that he and Lidster did not bond. Depending how Van's d-core evolves over the next 2 - 3 years they could move Tryamkin earlier. I suspect they will watch the KHL video closely. I wonder if it is illegal for the Canucks to talk to Tryamkin or his agent during the 3 years? IMHO there is no way he will develop as well over 3 years in the KHL versus his staying in Van. It is a step backwards and increases his odds of not making a NHL career.

Was thrilled when Benning signed this kid coming out of the Mem Cup. Looking forward to his year in Utica. Stawns accurately pointed out that he was tagged a couple of times and pro experience should help that part of his game.

I did not disagree with his point of playing 20 minutes a game after the TDL last year. The Canucks had a lot to possibly gain by seeing how he handled that. As I mentioned earlier, after 3 years of KHL, maybe Tryamkin thought he had the fundamentals and simply needed the TOI. He showed me enough that I would welcome him back with the right attitude. IMO he would have got the TOI this year and even pressured for a top 4 spot. Might never know that now. Vancouver's depth chart on the back end is deepening and in 3 years who knows where Tryamkin will sit.

The thing that disturbed me most about Tryamkin was he came to camp in Year 1 out of shape. He was already a 3 year KHL vet. His view of hockey did not appear to be the NHL way. What impressed me was he quickly dropped the weight and his play progressed through the season. To an extent I thought the Canucks should have played prospects more in the last month and a half. Not a prospect by that time but he could have got more PP time just to have a look. By season's end Tryamkin was loosing position in the d-zone and getting scored on. He was not alone as most of the defenders were.

Agree with your post for sure. Is your concern over cardio a issue over simply playing the game which he has missed out on for the better part of a season and a half. This is the main reason I want to see him get at least 20 games. Very prepared to see a waiver exempt player sent to Utica to see Rodin get a chance to really show. I add Burmistrov to that list as well.
-
Exactly right! I haven't seen enough out of him yet to think he will have a roster spot. We will see how he does with the vets coming back. Floaters with skill always get a 2nd look in hopes they 'get it' or their team mates have a talk that sinks in. Odds are that the light bulb never shines.

Breadth and depth is a concept that escapes many fans. Mentally easier to slot players in with expectations based on hype and junior stats. If it does not work in two months then rinse and repeat. Easy.
-
Totally agree. I have been talking Archibald up all over the Board. His physicality, speed and size give him a shot at the 4th line. He has a maturity to his game that is impressive.
-
Who knows how Tryamkin will develop in the KHL. I suggest Canuck d depth will bury him in 3 years.

Both Boeser and Virtanen have impressed. I actually think Virtanen is more ready after his season in Utica. I do not have a problem with both starting in Utica. The priority is having a mental approach to the game which will allow them to compete with NHL regulars. How does Boeser deal with a stretch of 20 games where he does not score. Top that with a presstitute corp who stick a mike in your face postgame, every game, asking why he isn't scoring? Every Canuck fan should be excited about Boeser but the game is not all about ppg. The safe play is to send him to Utica for 20 - 25 games. IMO Archibald has put a strong case forward. He will get a NHL contract out of his camp whether with Van or another org. He is a pro. Good for him! I would hate to lose him.

Stats have a place but IMO many fans rely on 'reading the stats' to form opinions on where players are in their development. Where 'Zepp' added to the conversation was more on the practical side of how players saw themselves and how they looked at the game. When Virtanen broke in as a rookie there was no conversations about how well conditioned he was it centered on his ppg. He goes to Utica and both ppg and conditioning were questioned regularly. To me it has always been how he saw his role on a team. Never that worried about his ppg. IMO he could make a NHL career without a high ppg. His speed and size gives him the ability to be a great puck possession player at both ends of the ice. He is the type of player that serious CUP contenders need.

SO Euro the way he was treated it makes me puke. Two NHL calibur hits and fights. Archibald has had a excellent camp to date.

The odds are against most players making the NHL. This is why I am a fan of drafting has high as possible. The odds of Joulevi not making it are better than lower draft numbers. IMO his success will have better odds based on the quality of his development and the speed of his development. The physical side can be more accurately gauged but the mental approach is likely more important. The Canuck timeline allows a patient and purposeful development of both Joulevi and Boeser who many fans think should be added to the Canuck roster. I want Joulevi back in London this season under the coaching of Hunter. He only has 2 years of North American brand hockey so those advocating sending him to SHL to play men is a higher risk IMHO. Hunter is a NHL quality coach and has a history of producing NHL quality players.

Kevin Bieksa had/has more offence in his game than Gudbranson. I do expect a great season from Guddy.
-
You put it much better than I. I meant his reading the play not his skating which you deduced from my weak effort.
-
Nice size with a certain edge to his game. This season should tell us a lot as he steps up a division. My only negative and not based on much video is that the speed of the game is something that challenges him.
-
He looks much bigger than I expected.
-
It is easy to say. I might even suggest that 18 to 20 is not as big as all that. Usually at 20 a hockey player is starting his first pro season and making the adjustment in living you talked about. My experience with players is that to a degree they are cacooned from much of life other than their physical conditioning and ice time. How each will react when they are forced from their comfort zone is huge. Combine this with the lost status of being elite as they join a roster of talented competitors. A further challenge is all the influences that have got the player to where he is. Could be a combination of parents, other family, previous coaches, trainors and agents. Fans wonder why young players slide to the side as they fail this transition.

I am expecting an improved game from Gaunce this year. He has the ability to alter his game for better performance. My fear is another Shawn Matthias.
-
Was the top d-prospect in the first 2 games IMO. Agree that he has to fill out. Watching his game and wondering why he was not drafted or signed by another club.
-
Been impressive each game out. Better speed than I anticipated.

WE have a home town boy playing pro soccer in Poland for 600,000 Euros a season. Car and condo provided. Do not know how he is taxed.

What I took from EastCoast's comment was that he was writing Virtanen off if he did not put up significant AHL points. IMHO Virtane even after the upcoming season is still young enough to adjust his game. Like you I do expect improvement this season. He absolutely has enough NHL quality tools to make the NHL. He could be a 25 point player and still be a major contributor to a Canuck team. Yes. I like Gaunce's game as well and will preach the same line of patience. I see both Gaunce and JV as 3rd line players.
