  1. With the waiver problem in Vancouver I expect Boeser to start in Utica. It gives Green some time to evaluate some tweeners and make decisions. Meanwhile Boeser gets his first serious pro exposure. 20 - 30 games would not be out of line in Utica. Of course all this goes out the window if he comes hard in the fall camp.
  2. What is the going NHL rate for a 50 - 60 player? I agree with your premise of expectations being to high for this kid. Much of this comes from his steady work and a fan base starved for positives. I actually think through all of this he has held up well and that his development has gone better than should be expected. Hopefully he has help coming. Starting his 4th season I do expect him to break 60 points.
  3. Absolutely true. The most simplistic approach is to compare ppg between players and forecast comparables as they mature. So many influences come to bear. Was Neely stifled in Van by coaching, were his line mates complimentary, were there personality conflicts? Physical or emotional issues? Some players benefit from a change in teams other view it as failure and regress. Fans never know the full story and often management doesn't either.
  4. I would like to ask Frankie Corrado that question? He ate a lot of popcorn in Lafferville.
  5. Stawns, you have been a McEneny fan way back into last season that I can remember. Would be smiling till X-Mass if he can push his way into the lineup. I agree that Tanev should be moved with the core return as draft picks. 2018 Draft should complete the core of the rebuild.
  6. I had expressed concern about a drop off in his physical game before he was sent to Utica. I questioned whether that had continued but 'Stawns' said no. Stawns watched a lot of Utica hockey and was very positive about how Virtanen was rebuilding his game. Excited to see the result this fall.
  7. My memory fails. Don't players come up from the AHL without being waived? I thought they only had to clear going down. Totally agree that losing this kid could really bite later on.
  8. Unfortunately a decision on Biega's role will have to be made fairly early in the NHL season. I say unfortunately because any sign of maturing by a younger prospect should send Biega down to Utica. McEneny could play 20 games in Utica and then come to Vancouver. Green knows him well after last season and hopefully he sees a role for him. I will be quite happy to see Julevi spend another year in London. As you suggest a Tanev trade would still be a big option based on return. JB talked about trade opportunity in the fall as teams refine their rosters. We all know how important th first 20 games are as far as final results. 2018 is a huge draft year for Vancouver.
  9. For a good belly laugh maybe we should compare Kessel with Bure. We do know that Crosby won't play with Kessel. Apparently their styles clash.
  10. IMHO SBisa had more value than Gaunce simply by his position and his time in the NHL. Defencemen have more value, especially with experience. Gaunce has not established himself yet. I do expect a much better season from him on the score sheet. I did not evaluate his performance or future value based solely on his PPG. He had a decent season last year as did his line mates. I will be very surprised if he does not make the opening roster. He would not clear waivers. Down grading Sbisa's value because LV has not moved him is weak IMO. It is like saying Tanev's value is weak because Benning has not traded him. Over the past 2 seasons Sbisa has played significant TOI as a top 4 d-man. If LV wants to move him there will be a market in October/November as NHL teams make decisions on their rosters.
  11. I guess we will see what Bo, Sven and Eric leave on the table. If Bo's agent was offering a discount then I would think he would be signed by now. No doubt the McDavid contract will cause a increase in demands through the NHL. Benning has said any number of times that he would be happy to pay top $ to a player who shows he has established himself. IMHO, the 3 mentioned above, all should have bridge contracts.
  12. If Guddy is not the player, as you suggest, then he can be dealt into the TDL. I am not prepared to make that assessment after 30 games. As a player who broke in at 18 with a dysfunctional franchise I am not willing to use his early NHL stats as much of an indicator. I really liked Willie Mitchell as a defender and his statements concerning EG after the trade stick with me. Canucks are not under pressure so I will watch with interest this season.
  13. Good to hear that. Virtanen has a great advantage with Green being his NHL coach. What they started in Utica last year might transition into the NHL. Virtanen's biggest attribute IMHO is his speed for a big man. If he plays a heavy game and can backcheck he could stick. His offence will come and the team has the time to let him develop.
  14. I was expecting a more physical game from Virtanen. He started his NHL career finishing his checks regularly. Seemed to hurt his shoulder and never really returned with the same intensity. Not seeing any of his Utica games I could not say whether that side of his game is there. His cut to the net with speed seems to be his signature move.
  15. I have been against signing Kane in the past but that line sounds, real good!
  16. Last year was the first that Horvat showed fair consistency throughout the season. That should not equate into a huge $ and lengthy contract. A bridge deal with bonuses should be the desired route.
  17. Hurt while playing for the AHL Wolves, hurt playing in the SEL and then hurt again last year. Maybe he needs a career change. Might make a good rehab trainer.
  18. Very big deal that Hutton came into last season playing 20 - 25 pounds heavier than his rookie season. IMHO Hutton saw that he needed more weight for board battles in his d-zone. I thought he did a better job last year as a result. I thought he showed enough speed last year to have o-zone presence. Looking forward to his up coming season. We could have a very nice upside.
  19. So true. Fans calling for young prospects to be thrown into the NHL are gambling on their careers. Give Joulevi 9 games but his best route is another year in the OHL. It is not good enough that he can slot in on the 3rd pairing and simply get by. He needs lots of TOI playing all aspects of the game.
  20. Very much agree. There is absolutely no rush on Boeser or any of the Canuck prospects. The development time line for this team stretches out 5 years. IMHO the Canucks have shown restraint in developing their prospects with Gaunce and Subban as examples. The org standard has to be there as Utica will be swamped with prospects in the next few years.
  21. I am trying to be positive on Tanev but in serious CUP play I would worry how how well he can handle a heavy forecheck. It is one of the reasons I would be willing to see him moved. I cannot forget how Calgary physically targeted him 3 years ago. Saying that I still appreciate his d-zone play and with a different mix of players that might develop over the next few seasons he could benefit. I would still trade him on a good deal.
  22. Unless Chris Tanev can increase his offense he will remain a 2nd pairing d-man on a CUP quality roster. There is nothing wrong with that. Shut down d-zone guy with great PK suppression.
  23. With a little puck luck Gaunce could have had 5 - 6 goals last year. Not saying that is the measure of a player. Gaunce had a real solid rookie season.; He will go into this season knowing what is required. I expect he will have a great year and even see time on the 3rd line.
  24. I suspect Benning is keeping his options open until the Draft is over. He has 1 First Rounders and 2 Second Rounders to draft and then decide how they fit now or in the future. Zuke cannot play in Utica I believe so going to Euro might be a better option. I prefer our prospects stay in NA but maybe he needs money.
