  1. Pretty close. Move Sutter to 3C and insert Gaunce as 4C. Hoping Dorsett can make it back and if so maybe moved at the TDL. The interesting thing about this fall is that there are enough prospects that we might get a surprise coming out of the pre-season. As soon as the tickets are available for the Penticton Prospects Tourny I'm buying!
  2. If Virtanen adds more physicality to his game I think he can play in the NHL. He does not have to be a scrapper but does need the hits.
  3. Because of the development time line I see a blurring of the top 9. Not so worried if Dahlen, Goldobin, Boeser, Virtanen, Top 2 pick, play 3rd line TOI. Also not upset if any of those players spend time in Utica.
  4. I don't see the ascendance of smaller players you are talking about. Sure there are some outstanding smaller players but overall I see bigger players. If nothing else the Oiler playoff run is clearly showing what big, fast and physical players can do. IMHO the Oilers beat the Sharks physically and then simply finished them off on the score sheet. The Ducks are much bigger but I suspect the Oiler speed will wear them down as well.
  5. I don't think we have seen peak performance by either player. That's obvious I know. I am more interested in how particular players fit in a roster with the ultimate goal of creating a serious CUP contender. IMHO both these players have that potential. Granlund might have cracked 50 points if not injured. Gaunce was snake bitten on goal posts this season but his real value could be a 3C or 4C with high end defensive awareness. He has the size and smarts to make that happen.
  6. Burrows gets another assist and plays a key part on the Sens win over the NYR. He is showing every bit as much as he did in 2011. Wily veteran who is getting, at times top line TOI. PK'ing like he always has. IMHO at some point in Canuck lore the discussion will have to happen about who benefited most from who in the Burrows with the Twins line. I do not deny the ebb and flow of that relationship but suggest that Alex Burrows truly drove that line many nights.
  7. The current d-side coach is Baumgartner and the rumor is Green wants to bring him to Vancouver. Any suggestion that Subban is not progressing because of coaching is a guess. Also true that certain players compliment one another. It is possible that Green will recognize a spot where Subban might succeed in Vancouver.
  8. I was surprised when Dahlen said he had only been to NA 3X in his life. I assumed he had lived here while his Dad played in the NHL.
  9. Clear and to the point. + 700 players in the NHL, +/- 1500 under contract. I doubt Rodin registers on any of their radars other than Canuck players and maybe some Swedes who know him back home. The NHL is a results based business and the vast majority of players absolutely realize that. One players bad luck is another's opportunity.
  10. Pretty sure I saw Burrows as the 1LW on the Sens PP unit yesterday. When the Twins won their scoring titles who was their LW? Alex Burrows was a 1st line player in his prime that lasted for at least 3 seasons. Was Morrison a 1st line player on the WCE. Many might argue not but who was backing up Bert and Nazzy on their terrible defensive coverages. It was no different with Burrows backing the Twins. Again, if the Twins were the reason Burrows was a 1st liner then one might question why the Canucks have searched for a winger for them for 18 years. Should we list all those who failed?
  11. Karlsson is a pretty special player. No doubt in my mind that Hunter played Joulevi as his best defensive d-man on a pretty young roster. The fact that London returned to the OHL playoffs after the number of high end graduates they had was impressive. Hunter is a NHL quality coach who walked away from the Capitals. If he saw the team need of having Joulevi as his d-zone rock then I consider Joulevi's season a great success. The interesting transition will be next season with a high level of returning players who have greater experience. Does that mean Hunter rethinks how Joulevi is deployed? If he has a higher octane offense does Joulevi get the nod to participate at a greater level? I have to think so. I expect London will be in the hunt for a Memorial Cup next year and that Joulevi will be there. I see limited value for him in Vancouver.
  12. I was tempted to start a new thread to high light Alex Burrows play against the Bruins, especially the series clincher. Game 6 had Alex's finger prints all over it. His play to squeeze off the Bruin forward which sprung Turris for his goal was classic. Sens coaching had Burrows on the PP as well as the PK. He was getting ozone starts regularly. Could not be happier for him. Would have paid serious money to have had a camera on Alex as he shook hands through the Bruins line up. Guaranteed he would have had his famous grin on!
  13. True enough! Chaput, Megna, MacEwan Cramarossa are all under contract I think. The only one who has a chance with the Canucks is Chaput IMO. With a new coach maybe not. I will be surprised if Gaunce is not in the line up next fall. He has the size to compete and is smart enough. I thought he had a decent season for a first year.
  14. Didn't you think that SJ was beat before the last game started? McClelland hammered them physically early in the series and then put the gas on with his skaters. The Sharks were turning from the hits and could not keep up skating wise. Thing of beauty even if it did cost us any chance of a 1st Rounder.
  15. Meaning what? Joe didn't have Foote and Yzerman did not have McCarty? Get serious. Why didn't you include Gretzky?
  16. Rodin signed a 1 year Canuck deal so I doubt they have his rights anymore. I have been saying that he signed in the SHL for next year but cannot find any supporting info and cannot remember where I saw/heard that. He is 26 years old now. Vancouver's prospect pool is filling up with smaller players (175 to 190 pounds). Benning has to get quality size and skills to be competitive, especially in the Pacific division. The Oilers will have a lock for years to come otherwise.
  17. Your point about having spent a year of junior in Canada is well taken. IMHO I would want a drafted Russian player to have at least 1 yr in the CHL. Tryamkin leaving will have a lasting impact on my view of signing more Russians. I am not being especially negative on the kid. More concerned that Benning develops a CUP contender and that requires the least risk for the most gain.
  18. Absolutely love the Senators scouting system. A long term history of finding top notch talent. If they were prepared to let Dahlen go it makes you wonder who else they have in their system. Go Alex! Get a hatty and single handedly sink the Bruins! Our stealth cruise missile.
  19. If it comes down to it I take Gaunce as 4C over Chaput. I thought Rodin had resigned in the SHL. Still undecided on Molino. I think all these guys will come to camp if they have contracts. New coach looks at things differently sometimes. I doubt Shore and Skille will be resigned.
  20. I cannot remember. If Vancouver drops to #4 pick does that drop them down in the following Rounds or not?
  21. I look at the Oilers 3rd line and then consider who we can pencil in and get depressed. Boucher is a project who will likely transition out next year. I hope it comes together for him. Wicked wrister but more than that is needed.
  22. Love to see a regular rotation of prospects between Utica and Vancouver.
  23. Guilty. I was a Lack fan partially because I did not know what we had in Markstrom. Now I have evolved into a let Miller go and hand the reins to Markstrom fan. Chock one up for Jimmy!
  24. Sorry but nationality does make a dif to me when building a team and so does size. It is all about the mix. Europeans: I like the programs in Swiss, Finland and surprising Denmark. Americans: Having been kicking but internationally for a few years now. Canucks are already Team USA North but I generally like their fundamentals. Canada: Still the best hockey players and the cream does rise. Media does no favors for these kids. Russians: Very leery about players who were/are developed in Russia. Prefer they have at least 2 years of CHL hockey. Size: Still room for smaller players (180-185 pounds). They have to have skill to compensate for size. I prefer +200 pounders with skill. If the Oilers are not sending out a major red flag to all NHL GM's then they are not worth their pay. Even McDavid leveled a Shark the other night. Big, physical, fast and after these playoffs mentally tough.
  25. Alzner is sitting out because of upper body injury.
