  1. How about Larsen at Tryamkin's elbow if Try decided to help Horvat out? Horvat has been the 'C' since last November.
  2. Yes but talk about net front composure how about that Boeser kid.
  3. The days of adapting the team to find a fit for the Twins is at an end. When Danny smoked that goal the other night it came home even more so. His shot is still there and he rarely uses it. If he is put on another line where he shots first I suspect he can still score + 20 goals.
  4. Horvat, Boeser, Stecher, Hutton, Tanev and Tryamkin. Forgot Dahlen for Sweden. Our CUP!
  5. Happy that Benning got a forward at + 200 pounds. Canucks are way light. Boeser's skating can improve. As his game evolves in the NHL his reads will help his game and mitigate his skating.
  6. You are probably right. I kinda have to laugh as my cousin was drafted by the Devils many years ago. When his season was over the Devils gave him a menu to follow and a exercise schedule. He got a phone call about once a month. I don't know if that was simply the way young players were managed back then, mid '80's. When I read that Virtanen and Stecher were using the Canuck training room all summer I maybe assumed to much.
  7. Many hockey people consider the London Knights the best ran and coached team in the CHL. That is why I am very comfortable in Joulevi playing his Draft +2 season in London. There are actually CDC fans who are minimalizing a 3 goal performance in the series. IMHO Joulevi is sending mega signals of what he could become.
  8. The Canuck trainers must have taken the summer off.
  9. You are outlining the mental approach to the game that does not get enough consideration by many fans. How many players have you seen over the years that had all the skill in the world but could not conquer the mental drive to achieve success. Two recent Canuck example IMO were CoHo and Wellwood. Wellwood had exceptional skills but said only recently that he had lost his love of the game before he was forced out of the NHL. Fans who want him into games because he 'might' score are losing the whole point of what it takes to build a team. The first priority of a player is to prove to his coach and more importantly to his team mates that he belongs. Goldobin has accomplished neither to date. His emotional commitment to the game has to be demonstrated. He should be in Utica right now not in Vancouver. Someone the other day suggested he needed some 'Greening' and I totally agree with that.
  10. I think you are bang on! Rushing Joulevi to the NHL has little upside IMO. Fans should also have a clearer idea of how Hunter was using Joulevi in London. He deliberately used Joulevi as his d-side defenseman of choice. He was on the ice for PK and on d-zone FO's. AT that he still played usually on the 2nd PP unit. I only watched two London playoff games so far but in both Hunter had Joulevi on the ice on the 1st PP and his usual d-side shifts. My conclusion from all this is that Joulevi is getting NHL quality coaching from Hunter and will eventually come to the NHL as a very well rounded defenseman. I much prefer he has the Draft +2 season in London rather than in Europe. The biggest issue with Joulevi is his physical development. That takes time plus weight training. Suggestions that playing 'men' in Europe would speed his physical development is over rated. I do not trust Euro development.
  11. For sure. That conversation has to be worth at least 2 years and $16 million. Miller should call Lu and gets some tips on the "C".
  12. My initial thought was Benning drafts a 1C no matter what. On reflection the Canucks will likely be drafting top 5 again next year so Benning could possibly defer the 1C pick to 2018 if he sees a winger that has top potential in 2017.
  13. Vancouver should have returned Bachman to Utica and taken Garteig as Miller's backup. Goldobin should also be in Utica a week ago. The #1 priority in the org should be Utica making playoffs.
  14. Totally agree. Canucks are not going anywhere for a couple of years. No need to hurry Joulevi. A year in Utica will start his pro career without the Vancouver BS from media and fans. I noticed Tanev took a hard hit again last night and missed a shift or two. Came back and finished the game. I have a uneasy feeling about his long term durability not just in regular season but particularly in playoffs where he would be targeted. Benning has to deal a d-man before the Vegas draft, just say'in.
  15. I do not see Joulevi playing NHL next year. Camp + 9 games makes sense but that is all.
  16. He should have been in Utica a week ago IMHO. Bachman as well. Gartieg could be backing Miller. Demko could be given a break using Bachman.
  17. Canadian players returning after KHL stints talk about it being a 'no contact' league. Big ice, lots of room behind the nets, no heavy checking and no board battles. Fans talk about prospects playing in the KHL to develop their games (Zuk) but I would be concerned that the development would be limited. The CHL and AHL are still be the best opportunity. After watching Tryamkin this year I am thinking he has the highest ceiling of all Canuck players not just the d-core.
  18. Goldobin is exempt I believe. No? Still hoping that Benning has a d-man trade simmering. Losing a top 4D to Vegas should not be an option.
  19. I am still holding out hope that Benning moves a d-man(Edler or Tanev) for a prospect and draft pick as well. Hope the pick will be in '18.
  20. If Boucher is the sure thing that many on CDC think then Vegas will take him and Gaunce will be spared. I don't have a problem with that.
  21. I don't see anywhere near the drive out of Boucher. Burrows never made the Canucks as a offensive player yet matured into one. That said he never lost his 'd' side and was a top notch PK'er. Your 'drive' comment is bang on. I was always of the opinion that Burrows elevated the play of his line mates whereas Boucher, if successful, will depend on his line mates to set him up.
  22. It is laughable the way fans equate toughness with fisticuffs. A consistent physical team who finish checks, are hard on the puck, regularly gain body position and, yes, who will defend their team mates with fighting if required is my idea my idea of a tough team. Finesse hockey can be intimidating as well if executed. It forces teams to change their style or game plan to counter. Boston did that in 2011 and Van could not.
  23. 'It's a process' is the familiar refrain I believe. Fans with limited knowledge do not have the patience to wait. Many see Boucher as a cinch and already have him penciled as a top 6 player. Odds are closer that he does not make it. Same for Rodin. As a cliché labeled 'tanker' I see the org drafting top 5 this year and likely next year. Like you I see a broadening of the prospect depth but the Canucks still do not have that player or players who can be top NHL quality leaders. Horvat shows great growth and Boeser might work his way there. We hope that Goldobin, Dahlen and maybe Gaudette are. The big dif as you said that 3 years ago this potential did not exist in the org. It will take 3 to 4 years of 'process' to see if they do.
  24. I never mentioned center but also a 1C need. The draft will be very interesting. If Columbus gives us their 2nd Rounder does that give us 2? I think Van still has their 2nd. Fans scoff at the insistence of size assuming that smaller players have more skill. Not a given. Size in CUP play should provide better durability. Bigger size should help in the West as well.
  25. If we assume Boeser evolves into the 1RD that gives you 1 RD at 200 pounds or higher. IMHO Van will still need another RD at +200 pounds so Virtanen at 20 years old is no where close to being out of the picture whether at 2RD or 3RD. I see it no dif on the left side. 2LD at +200 pounds. Canucks are no where big enough to be seriously competitive.
