  1. I believe that Willie choose Van over Pitt.
  2. If you think Sbisa is a weak #4 and a strong #5 I would look through the NHL rosters again.
  3. Not sure why Sbisa would not be in long term plans. He is having his best NHL season and is in the development time line. I simply cannot see Benning letting a top 4 d-man go to Vegas. Either he deals beforehand or makes a deal with Vegas. Canucks will not lose Gaunce as Vegas would likely take Boucher.
  4. In the West Vilardi's size counts for something. Liked his game when I have watched. No idea about Mittelstadt but his risk has to be higher as high school is a question IMO.
  5. Damn 'Mericans are sneaking across the border on foot and by air! Canucks new name will be Team USA North! Horvat will be the token Canadian.
  6. Eriksson cannot be exposed. I am hoping for a deal on either Edler or Tanev.
  7. One might wonder whether Edler's attitude towards moving changes next year with the Twins in their final year. No matter Bennings hand will be forced by the Vegas draft. I cannot see Benning losing a top 4 d-man to that draft. A deal has to be simmering.
  8. I don't believe Dahlen has any NA experience. I think the smaller NA ice surface causes problems for the Euro forwards when they come over.
  9. If Goldy and LaBate are healthy they should be in Utica now. Bachman will be there by the weekend.
  10. I don't mind that deal either but why do you think Buffalo would trade Reinhart?
  11. Rare to find NHL players who do not give credit to their AHL time spent. Whether Boeser is on the team next year or not will not make the Canucks a contender. The issue is all about development. If Boeser spends 20 - 40 games in Utica it should be time well spent. Hutton's comment about media and fan unrealistic expectations of young players is bang on. Horvat was an exception. Ideally Boeser plays the rest of this season, the pre-season and another 9 games to start the season. Make a decision at that point.
  12. I expect his father will make the call. I do not have a lot of faith in the Euro leagues. The AHL is the premier league for training players into the NHL. The same suggestions have been made about Joulevi playing in Europe next year. No and no!
  13. I expect him to be an option. If Tanev had more offensive upside I might think differently. How many times was Tanev hit hard by Winnipeg yesterday? That is the book on Tanev from what I can see. Not unusual when teams look at video and see him as a superior puck mover. The issue becomes how well will he stand up, physically, in CUP play. He gets by in regular season but we all know that CUP play is a different game. It is about attrition. If Benning is building a CUP contender he might decide to move Tanev while he has max value and get that forward help the team needs.
  14. Was Gudbranson acquired for his offense? I think not. Your passing judgement on a player who had 30 games this season. He will not resign for $2 - 3 million which is a ludicrous suggestion. At a minimum I suspect he is resigned on a escalating contract starting beween $4 - 5 million. The issue is term and I assume there will be no NTC clause. A bridge deal showing some faith is the likely deal. If it doesn't work in Van Benning should find another team willing to deal. IMHO EG will be a core d-man going forwards.
  15. Very true. Not much talk about Hutton putting on 15 pounds going into the season. I think it has helped his physical battle and his skating speed still looks good. IMO Hutton will benefit from this season and come back strong next year.
  16. We all know the drill in Vancouver. Young players come in as saviors and as the losses mount the fans and pressitutes turn on them. If that is the case then like Virtanen I prefer they get their feet wet in Utica. 9 games should be a decent number of games to see where Boeser is. I can guarantee that as soon as tickets are available for the Prospects Tourny in Penticton I will be buying!
  17. Only seen him in 2 TV games but he was impressive. His game reminded me of Cole Cassel's. Lockwood likes the physical play from what I could see.
  18. I don't consider 2 years of OHL hockey to much. IMHO he does not looked bored. Another year in London under the equivalent of very good NHL coaching will prep him more for the NHL than going to Euroland which is always suspect IMO. The biggest issue with Joulevi is putting on weight.
  19. I wasn't suggesting Biega would be a fighter. His strength is his speed and hitting.
  20. Agree. Tony G is the worst of mostly a bad crew. Tries to stay relevant by revealing his 'inside information' topped with his 'deep' hockey knowledge. My take is he has none of either. It is almost comical how he panders to the BS crowd. Obviously this is all done for audience but continued cutbacks should tell these people it is simply not working.
  21. Willie adds Malholtra and Doug Jarvis and what happens? The FO% goes from one of the worst to one of the best. Jarvis has the forwards playing a more disciplined game which has increased the neutral zone play and improved the fore check in the ozone. I find Jarvis a real mystery man. Cannot remember a single interview this year. No pic posted on the staff bios.
  22. Biega has the wheels to play up front and I agree his physical play is a real sweetener. I realize it is a short debut but LaBate has been so so to date. Some one on that roster had to more than hug Suter after his cheap shot. Same thing for Nino.
  23. Totally agree about Horvat driving the play by attacking the net. Now add another +200 pounder in Boeser who will do the same thing. Also agree with you that the #1 need going into the draft will be a 1C. That draft can have Horvat and him fighting for the #1 slot down the road. I like Sutter but my preference is two top centers at + 200 pounds.
  24. I have been impressed with Van's 4th line most of the year. Gaunce was a big part of that. Valuing this guy by his ppg is a superficial perspective IMO. Even at that how many goal posts and crossbars has he hit this year? What impresses me about Gaunce's game is how well he reads the play and his pretty solid positioning. For a 1st year NHLer and playing on a 4th line Gaunce has had a solid season. My biggest fear of Gaunce being selected by Vegas is a Vegas attempt to have younger prospects and a need to come under CAP. Who knows how many contracts they will take on.
