My statement was based on Boeser signing a ATO not a Canuck contract. He could have gone to Utica on that basis.

Nice shot by Joulevi to score but I thought the Tender should have had it. That is a TV perspective which can be deceiving. I watched Joulevi through the game. Positives: reads the play very well and throws great passes on the breakout. Weakness: He is playing to his strengths which is natural but IMO he has to put on weight and gain more physicality. Draft +1 Canucks should be happy to date. The issue is where does he play next year? Many fans are suggesting he would do better in Europe playing in a men's league. I am very leary of that idea. Joulevi's biggest challenge is getting bigger and that does not change where ever he plays. The OHL is a very competitive league and his coaching is 2nd to none. Hunter is like having a NHL coach guiding his development. Playing in Canada allows easier Canuck coaching input as well. He plays in Europe and I fear his play centers more around his strengths and does not challenge his physical side enough.

I was hoping he would go to Utica. Who knows what dynamics are at play. Utica would have given him more games to his season and in a better environment with a playoff team. He would have been playing with half a dozen potential future Canuck team mates. If his wrist has any questions around it then 9 NHL games can be closely watched and sheltered.

IMHO Guddy improves Sbisa and Edler's games.

Very excited about next year for Tryamkin. At some point this kid will develop some meanness then look out.

I am curious how much minor hockey Dahlen played in NA while his father played in the NHL? Bottom line is that NA will not be a totally new experience when he comes over.

I would not want to see Miller resigned but acknowledge that some kind of deal might be done. Part of my rationale is that NHL goaltending is the most competitive position in the league. There is a lot of goal tenders who sit for lack of opportunity. Miller's value could easily be overstated or acquiring teams might prefer younger players. Miller's worth is to a team developing a younger #1. I simply think Markstrom is past that phase and should be the #1.
-
40 second shifts which might be a tad long would yield 7.5 shifts in 5 minutes. If the 4th line was being sat out it would amount to roughly 2 shifts per line. Anymore than 2 shifts and the player is getting extra TOI. It appears that Bo is getting extra ice not less.
-
At 37 I suspect Miller wants at least 2 years at market for a #1 which will be at least $6 mil. Even 1 year would be contrary to the rebuild that has to happen. Markstrom did not get the games this year I had hoped he would. At that he had a solid 10 game stretch where he showed he was ready to be a #1. Van is currently paying about $10 mil for goaltending which could be better spent in free agency.
-
Well established that only Gaunce, LaBate and Goldy the only Canucks papered for AHL play.
-
Miller wins another one against the Hawks. He has had a great season and set himself up for another contract. I wanted him moved at the TDL and do not want Van to resign him. His strength disguises a Canuck reality which Markstrom at $3 mil can do as well and grow with a younger roster. Miller will likely ask market price and multiple season deal. That does not benefit Van it is short sighted.

Brent Sopel's look alike had a good game last night and for the past number of games. Shocking interview with Sopel last night. Autistic and a alcoholic. Not diagnosed until only months ago. A truly sad story. Full credit it he wants to help others.

Canucks are done in 10 games. Goldy-Gaunce and LaBate go back down to Utica and helps them make the Calder playoffs. That gives them at least 28 more games. I see your point about playing with the existing Canuck roster but IMHO the better return is in Utica.

I'm hoping that Bo, Tanev and Hutton head back to World's this spring. I would be surprised if Horvat is not invited.
-
I do expect Benning to move a d-man but trading Hutton might be premature. As a 2nd year pro his offensive upside is still unclear. Hoping he is asked back to Team Canada World Cup this spring. Likely Horvat as well. Trading Hutton does not solve the issue of losing one of Edler-Tanev-Guddy or Sbisa. Ideally it is Edler who is moved.
-
My preference is that he goes to Utica rather than Van. If he can help Utica make the Calder then all the better. Boeser goes to the Canuck rookie camp and plays a few NHL games and then stays in Utica until X-Mass. No hurry for the NHL unless he is simply to good to keep in the AHL.
-
Totally agree. LaBate-Gaunce-Goldy sent down asap. Critical that Utica makes Calder playoffs. More to be gained from a long playoff run than playing out the last 10 games in Van.

Both the Oilers and Dallas gave the Canucks credit for playing a structured defensive system. How many neutral zone turnovers in the Canuck favor? I think you are bang on. It can be painful to watch at times and explains why Goldofin(?) gets fans excited when he scores on a break away. Try that every game and the Canucks are bombed. This is a reasonable strategy at this point with a younger roster. As experience is gained and skill level improves more latitude can be increased. I have felt that the Canucks have done well in the ozone most games this year. They strip the puck regularly and can win board battles even though many players are on the lighter side. Canucks have to get bigger forwards.

It is the scale of what you are suggesting that worries me more than anything. That said I do not see a mass exodus of CHL players to Jr.A or Europe. My concern over Euroland is the play there is not NA style hockey. It might be a fit for Joulevi but it hurt Jensen's development IMHO. Jensen was considered 'to good' for the OHL so went home to Europe. To early to tell whether Mathews starts a movement, I doubt it. Frankly, strong WJC teams out of Europe could impact player movement as much as anything. The disaster of the Finnish team this past tourney was hardly that. I certainly do not want Joulevi in the KHL. Sorry, just do not see it. The idea of allowing the top 10% of CHL players being allowed to in essence skim the system to benefit that group is 'shooting' yourself in the foot. A question to ask is whether the 3rd, 4th & 5th Round picks that Jim Benning feasts on still exist if the overall quality of CHL play drops. I think not.

Likely not happening. Alzner is almost 30, hard to believe. His demands would likely be market price with a minimum 6 years. That could change somewhat depending whether he is a CUP champion or not. Word earlier this season that he could move on as Washington has a CAP problem. Replacing Edler with Alzner sounds great IMHO but timing to negociate that is almost impossible.

2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
Boudrias replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
I admit that I flip flop between moving Tanev or Edler. I agree with you that Edler is the best move but it comes down to what you can get back. My flip flop has always been that Tanev brings more back and the limitations of how you move Edler. I see Edler being effective at reduced TOI until the younger d-men can bump him out. With the improved play of Sbisa-Hutton-Tryamkin on the LD I might lean towards moving Edler now. I am sure that next fall the usual banter over playoffs will begin. Odds are another year of development as the Twins play their swan song. Horvat will assume the leadership and hopefully Eriksson resumes his career norm performance. Once the Vegas draft is done Benning might have a surprise deal. -
True enough that the NHL teams can take underagers onto their rosters just as Virtanen and McCann were last year. I see efforts to allow under agers into the AHL whether 1 or 2 per team as a thin edge of the wedge. There is a very clear reason why Canadian hockey is superior and I suggest that is the CHL. The bedrock of hockey in NA is not the NHL and most certainly not the AHL. It is the Canadian minor hockey system with the CHL at the top. The benefits of CHL hockey filter all the way back to PeeWee hockey.
-
Watched him in a game about a month ago. Very strong on his skates and physical. 200' game. Add some weight and he will be a player.
-
You let 1 - 2 'exceptional player status' exemptions for each NHL franchise and you take potentially 31 - 62 junior age players from the CHL. That would be a real threat to junior hockey in Canada. It 'might' work out for the exempted players but the overall quality of play within the CHL would suffer. Quality down = attendance down = failed junior franchises. The CHL provides a development structure that benefits all junior hockey players. Cherry picking the system is a long term killer of Canadian hockey.

I thought it would come down to a choice between But and Dorsett as who stayed next year. Dorsett's injury and an excellent deal for Burrows told the tale. Even at that Dorsett has no lock and could be bumped in the fall.
