Granlund with a little space has a deadly shot. He is developing a very consistent game.

being a late cut for Team Canada WJC is hardly flying under the radar.

Pierre is high on Lockwood as well.

I like your idea. Watching the Columbus game it became very apparent that they thought they could play a physical game against Van which they did. Tryamkin responded but having Guddy there as well Van could play that game as well. Sbisa's physical game has dropped off and Edler can play that game but is not a leader. I expect Tryamkin will be a more offensive force next year and having a partner who backs him well will be critical. I don't think there is another Canuck d-man who can cover the ice like Tryamkin can.
-
Very limited I agree. IMO fans should remember the Minnie game and what CUP contenders have, size! Fans were laughing because Tryamkin tuned Jenner up but would you not love to have that kid on your roster? Through the whole game Jenner was playing an aggressive and heavy game. I thought he was a standout for Columbus. To many small forwards on the Canucks to be a serious contender.

They were saying the same thing about his brother in Minny. Conventional thought says you are right as a middle six.
-
Found it interesting that Hutton played RD last night. Tryamkin has played RD as well as Sbisa.

I always like to look at a player to see how their skills can contribute towards a serious CUP contender. Not so worried about regular season. Virtanen has the size and speed to be a key part of a contender IMO. I viewed Kassian the same way. Virtanen has to prove himself but the wait, if he does, would be well worth it.

Many are throwing Minny out as an example of a defense first team with mega offensive upside. I would throw Columbus into that conversation as well. Both team have size up front and both can play a heavy game. Both are built for CUP play IMHO. Canucks are not close with their forward group.

Your right. My bad.

IMO he was playing top 6 because of the injury situation. As I said even tho he has decent defensive abilities the only way he likely stays in the NHL is as a forward that can put up points. He has not been able to do that. I do not begrudge his chance to do that. If Rodin had not come up lame I suspect Megna would have been sat to see what Rodin could have done. You know me. I'm one of those 'tankers'. I would have sent Megna down to Utica some time ago and rotated the prospects through Van to see what they had. Specifically Grenier and LaBate. To your point about how bad could the prospect pool be? Bad! You follow Utica enough to know that.

Defensively aware and actually back checks with decent speed. In a way I compare him to Baer when Baer was struggling. Megna has all the tools needed but seems to have that half second delay switch that foils his scoring opps. Some one suggested that he go back onto the 4th line. He has the ability to play a defensive game but IMO he has to score to stay. He has not been able to do that. With Hansen back I suspect his opp is gone.

Let's start with the AHL and move up from there.

Many fans do not look past the ppg when making a decision on how good a player is. I was bemoaning the fact that Gaunce could add some physicality to his game about a month ago. Low and behold he has upped his hitting since then. You see so many of the young guys come to the NHL and the speed freezes them. This is why I wanted Gaunce to get at least 40 games this year to get acclimatized. He has done that and more. As you mentioned the Canuck 4th line has been solid even after Dorsett went down. Chaput is another player often questioned. A big 215 pound center who wins his fair share of FO's. Fans should look at the team FO% which is one of the best in the NHL versus last year. Solid FO% equals puck possession. Yes, the Van d-core is much younger than last year yet are playing a better game. Some of that has to do with puck possession and the d-core not having to battle for the puck and the increased time to make a pass out of the zone.

Watched Lockwood last night on SN. Really impressed with his game. Berenson had him playing on the 1stPP, he PK'ed and played a very solid positional game. Top that with finishing his checks regularly. There was nothing he did not do. Don't know his stats. I think he scored but that was secondary to what I saw of his overall game.

In the history of the Canucks there have been some exceptional players, many not in the ROH. Smyl, Linden and Bure were all on CUP final teams and were key players who got them there. They all had multiple examples of key plays that carried their teams. Naslund never got pass the 2nd Round. I can agree that it is not all on his head. That does not change reality. The Twins will have their #'s retired as they should. It might sound harsh but that is my take. I will throw out Thomas Gradin's name as a great player as well who did not have as strong a team to play with as Naslund. Gradin produced scoring records that stood until Bure came along. Gradin took his club to the '82 Finals and was 4th in Playoff scoring that year. No ROH for him? Naslund had some great 'regular season' scoring stats but CUP play is what it is all about. ROH yes, # Retirement no.

Look how much and how well he was anticipating the play last night against SJ. He is smooth.

I suspect the camp next fall would set the tone. Great camp equals a look at the season's open. I hope the Canucks have learned their lesson with Virtanen. Half a season in Utica should not hurt any rookie. Megna has not produced points and he has to stick. Hansen will push Megna out. Chaput is a totally different scenario. He is the 4C and has had a solid season. I suspect he sticks and has a good chance next fall.

I thought Bo was deferring to Gaudreau in the AllStar game game regularly. Gaudreau was not returning the favors much. Your point about Monahan having more consistant line mates is spot on.
-
Your absolutely right. The Canucks could have lost Horvat with his early NHL play. Strength of character has served him well. Comes from the farm I bet!
-
Sam; Good post. What is your take on the condition of Virtanen's shoulder? Injured in Junior and again last year. This year he made a hit and he looked uncomfortable on the bench afterward. I have no idea if he is playing a hitting game in Utica or not. Not taking many penalties.
-
Stecher was a - 2 last night. Time to throw him under the bus yet?
-
Megna has NHL speed and shot. Bottom line is that he has to put up points and he has not been able too. He plays because who else would? When Hansen returns Megna will be out. Chaput got more TOI because he, Skille and Gaunce are amping their games each game out.

I got a charge in the Yotes game when Tryamkin tried a give and go with Larsson. Tryamkin broke up the right side looking for a return pass and Larsson did not react fast enough. The hesitation wrecked the play and Tryamkin skated back to the bench with a grimace. I am impressed with his vision. There is way more to this kid's game than we have seen to date.

True enough. It would take an injury on a CUP contender. Not likely to happen.
