[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM
Boudrias replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
Obviously a difference of opinion of where this team has to go. Adding a aging vet is not what I see asa CUP winning strategy. -
This IIHF World CUP is a bit of a joke. Sorry but the quality of play is more than brutal. I watch specific players. Malkin to the rescue. The only thing the Euros can teach Canada is that every ice surface in the NHL should have been converted to the bigger ice surface decades ago. It gives more room to the offense and promotes more speed back into the game.

[Report] Torts wanted to buy out Alex Burrows
Boudrias replied to hockeyville88's topic in Canucks Talk
Suggesting that Tort's wanted Burrows bought out is idle BS IMHO. Moving Burrows in a trade would have been the discussion. I cannot believe what Burrows has gone through this season. Now a leg injury! I am not one to dwell on legacy but Few players have brought more to the Canucks than Alex Burrows. It was not the Twins who led the Canucks out of the 'wilderness'. It was Burrows and Kesler IMO! While the hallowed Naslund sat on the bench with head bowed those two fought and scratched the Canucks back to respectability. Both played a 200' game and became leaders. All this aside I hold no player above the team and the goal of a CUP win. I never consider any player above a trade. It is always a balance between what is given up and what is gained. -

Only in Canuckland would there be serious talk of adding Iginla to the roster. This is like a bad movie that never ends. -
AV was a likeable guy but I agree with you. What is the 'Naslund treatment'? My only issue with Naslund was that the org never got a thing when he left. He played a 100' game and didn't take any blame for defensive lapses other than hanging his head back to the bench. Not a Linden by any stretch.

Sounds good to me. Especially true if Linden decides to move Kesler which will be an admission that the current core cannot be tweeked back into serious contention. More has to come back than Pouliot but a good start. Going younger also supports hiring Trotz who by all I hear is a great teacher/communicator. -
France beat Russia last year at World's. It doesn't help that this is an Olympic year or others might have signed up as well. It appears to me that Hockey Canada is doing their own scouting for future teams as well. Did not see much out of Huberdeau which was a bit surprising. I suspect this team will settle down somewhat. My expectations are not high but I appreciate that these guys went to represent our country. No matter the quality of the competition the USA met, Trouba is a upcoming star. Simply wow!

He might resign but that does not let him go to Van. If under contract he cannot breach at will andexpect to resign somewhere else. Boston has to release him. -
ISS/CS Draft Rankings - 2014 NHL Entry Draft

The deeper LA goes into the playoffs the more impact it will have on the draft. Many teams will be scratching their heads over the skill vs size argument. I'm pulling for a LA vs Boston final. -

Yes they can prevent him from taking a Canuck job if he is under contract. The usual caveat in such contracts is that if a job is offered which means advancement then they can take it. We don't know what Benning's contract says. Linden did say he had no serious 'push back' from those he had approached. That indicates to me that he is already talking to people like Benning. I agree with Gary Valk about Trotz. Made a lot happen for Nashville on a shoe string budget. -

Bruins win the CUP and draft 30th anyway. Canucks can throw them a bone like Schroeder to let our new Messiah go. -
Guance looked huge out there. McDavid and Brown were definitely moving much better than Fox. Fox looked like he was floating.

Old News; Talk about culture shock for Trotz if he came to Van. Preds environment would look absolutely Artic baren in comparison. I wonder if he would be open to such a move? I cannot ever remember any criticism of his coaching by those that left Nashville. It always seemed to be about money or the desire to be on a winning team. -
[Speculation] Kesler to remain a Canuck
Boudrias replied to TheRussianRocket.'s topic in Canucks Talk
I honestly view the playoffs this year in light of who losses the worst and whether they will want to acquire either Kesler or Edler. The only top 6 players with the Canucks who have shown the ability to carry a line is the Twins. I even suggest that Burrows, when healthy, has shown more ability to make his line mates better players. Kesler has serious abilities and possibly with different linemates might still create something. I simply think that Van's upper depth is to challenged and Kesler's game is not creative enough. MG resigned the Twins to 4 year deals which was probably excessive at the money involved. That is done. At this point in the timeline of the Canucks Kesler's 2nd line should be challenging the Twins #1 role and it is not even close. One might even argue that Kesler should have been able to work more effectively with Kassian. That might not be fair but it is becoming obvious that Kassian has superior playmaking skills and that Richardson was able to work with him and Kesler could not. It does come down to risk minimalization. Go into next season, once again trying to build a 2nd line around Kesler, or trade him and bring back talent in the time line that compliments a 22 - 24 year old development time line. I vote for the latter. -
It could be blowing up in their faces but it is very obvious that the NHL wants size and physicality intheir game. Two different rule books between regular season and playoffs. The exhibition that the Hawks put on yesterday was not a credit to the game IMHO. Keith has not changed his attitude at all since he elbowed Sedin. That hit started Sedin down hill and he really has never recovered. My point about this is that IMO Van should continue to draft size. McKinnon at 18 has it all and one has to wonder where he will be even next year. Van will not draft a player of his caliber this June. They have to draft size with talent enough to ensure they play NHL hockey. Mold that size around enough talent to move the puck. Perhaps a UFA signing is the route to high end talent. Kassian is a player who exhibits the ability to play all aspects of the game. Conversely Schroeder's pick was wasted as he likely will not have an NHL career.

Watching the playoff games last night brings home once again how far Van has to go before becoming a serious CUP contender again. Whether Benning, Hextall or someone else they have to be willing to have an active Linden involved. Comes down to personalities and career paths. I am still leaning towards Benning. I wish these people who keep bringing up Naslund give it a break. Not even close to being a contender. -
Relieved to hear Linden say that he believes in 4 lines. Very obvious that Torts does not. Loved theirony of Weise scoring the winner for the Habs last night. A certainty that he would not have seen the ice after 3 periods.

Stan ran the Moose many years ago. I think that experience cured any ambition he might have had tocoach. I believe Stan had to deal with the great prospect 'Fading Feddy Federov'. Ya, the same guy who Bieksa took outside a bar in Winnipeg and tuned him up. He didn't stick around long after that. -

Depends. I think protocol is to ask permission. That might have happened already. Carolina beating Philly 3 - 1 end of 1st period. Hang in there Manny (scored the 3rd goal) and do your old team a favor. #6 pick is looking good! -

I believe Neidermayer is already working for the Ducks. I have to think Benning is high on the list as Linden has stated he wants a hands on role. That might not be well received by potential applicants as it could evolve into a problem. I assume that since Benning already knows Linden he might be less reluctant to work along with him. Benning does not have a GM future in Boston in the near future. I love his scouting background as scouting is a hugh weakness in Vancouver. As long as Carolina comes through or the Canucks can lose one more Vancouver will draft #6. If there is a pick higher that they absolutely want it puts them in striking distance to trade up. Unless Linden acts quickly he will be drafting on recommendations of the existing team. Not necessarily a bad thing as their picks last year look very good a year later. -
Ossie; 6 - 5 loss sounds just right. Enough scoring to make it interesting, especially with a Kassian hat trick. Markstrom has to take one for the team. Love to see Van drop to a #7 pick!
