[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours.
Boudrias replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Lidstrom had the ability to play the body even if it was not actually hitting. I am talking puck battles. I do not see that much out of Tanev. He tends to fish the puck out and make the quick pass. He is good at it but a superior fore check could break his game down. Tanev has shown a tremendous ability to learn and improve his game. He has been one of the few positives on Van defence IMHO this season. Another is Stanton who has returned from injury and not missed much of a beat. -
Challenging the team through the media is not unusual for coaches. It sure indicates that they are not listening in the locker room however. I agree it is not a good sign. Torts said that the team had to change their approach or changes were coming. It made me think of the California trip where a 4th line got a real chance to show something. It culminated in the Calgary game and then abandoned. To me this club does not have an identity anymore than it did in October. Potvin said that in your face coaching does not work over the long term or with vets. Hartley doesn't have a lot of vets in Calgary but he is doing the same thing as Torts with far more success. I suspect that Torts is a great playoffs coach. The bigger question in Van will be whether he can coach young talent. I am hoping Van trades some vets for a quick rebuild. The current group is not winning a CUP.

No doubt that it is probably easier to play under AV than Torts. AV's system seems to leave more discretion to the players to react to situations on the ice. I also think that AV has more talent to work with in NY. An argument might be made that Torts did not fully appreciate the impact travel has in the West. That combined with over reliance on his top players has to impact sooner or later. Just as AV did not use his 4th line neither does Torts. Prior to the suspension he was starting to increase their TOI which I thought was positive. My take on the Canucks at this point is that the only positive is the goaltending. Both tenders have played well. The d-core gets a lot of passes when they should not for a very experienced group. Tanev has played himself into a top 4 placing which is positive for him but does not say much for the senior group. Even though the overall rating is high for Van IMHO the tenders are more the reason. Love the way Stanton has moved back in and has not lost a step. Corrado is doing well. I would move a top dman for a long term asset under 27 years old. I see Bieksa has volunteered. I highly doubt Gillis makes another Roy move which is a desperation move IMO. Daniel has not been the same player since the Chicago forearm. Kesler has not shown he can anchor a top line. Higgins has been the most consistant. Since Van will soon be passed by PHX and Dallas I prefer that Torts start playing his 4th line 8 min of TOI and start rolling the young talent through his lineup. Sorry but time to move some vets out. Van is further ahead than Buffalo and have not yet mismanaged their affairs like Calgary. Buffalo does have more prospect depth. What is really comical is the universal hate thrown at Hartley a few weeks ago. No mentioned of what a great job he is doing in Calgary. He is doing a much better job of the type of game that Torts wanted to bring to Vancouver. It will be very interesting to see if Van fans will support a younger club that does not win as much as the past 4 years. If we are lucky we can get by on a 1A and 1B top six with a 3 & 4 who get decent TOI and opportunity for young player development. Absolutely no player should be untradeable. It is always about what comes back. Van has a great inventory of experienced NHL vets. The excuse that NTC's preclude movement is just that an excuse. Vets want a say where they go and whether they will have an opportunity to win a CUP. It is not going to happen in Van for awhile so I suspect a willingness to move.

My enthusiasm for the game is ebbing almost as fast as Van's fortunes in 2014. As much as I realize that injuries are changing the way the game is played I don't like it and pine for yesteryear. Canucks have to rejig their timeline and accept that this club with a few add ons is not a CUP contender. It is too early to tell whether Horvat can center a #1 line or not. However it appears that Kesler cannot. Sign a UFA but do not trade pics or prospects. Interesting comment by Denny Potvin yesterday. He likes Torts but said he would not have enjoyed playing for him. He thought raw emotional and personal appeals to players does not work. He felt a team approach with a clear identity was better. You pick the players who can fit the system rather than adjusting the system to fit the player. I refer back to comments I have made about the Canuck identity being dominated by the Twins. He commented about the SeaHawk strength under Pete Carroll being about drafting players who fit his system or signing FA players who could adapt.

I thought Vaulk's comment last night was pretty accurate. Weise was stuck on the 4th line getting less than 5 minutes a night on some nights. As a guy who has had success when played more he was probably at a crossroads as far as longevity in the NHL. He brought it to a head and was traded. I still think consistency is a issue with Weise but a 3rd line role might see him break out. I still have the opinion that on a CUP contending team the 4th line has to be playing at least 8 minutes a game. Van rarely does that with Torts or when AV was here. It is obvious that the Van identy is all about the Twins and their style of hockey. All the lines seem to focus on a east/west game. It appears to me that opposing teams are defensing Van better all the time by forcing them to the perimeter. Seriously? Torts said Booth was their best player last night. How many puck battles did I see Booth lose last night. I quit counting. Fans used to laugh at how easy Raymond went down. While Booth does hit he also goes down easily. Absolutely no doubt that Lack was Van's best player last night. I was stunned by Daniel's comments during the interview. He was talking about building on their effort. The Wings should/ could have had half a dozen goals last night.

There is a trade ban during Olympics and then a short time before the March trade deadline. Gillis knowsthat playoff teams always look for d-men going into playoffs. If he cannot use the guy he will be able to move him.
-
You very well might be right. However I suspect Weise was the same situation as a up coming UFA. A UFA for a UFA. I haven't seen enough of Diaz to really comment. I think Weise has played himself into a position to get another contract. His problem in Van was they wanted a 4th liner who had a physical edge. IMHO Weise saw himself as a top 9 player and would have went after a deal that might get him there. In one sense I find it disappointing as I don't think the 4th line in Van gets anywhere near enough TOI. My other issue with Weise was his inconsistent play delivering what Torts wanted. I am sure from his perspective he was playing his game. Diverging interests. Fans should not forget that Weise had speed but also a pretty decent shot. Good luck to him.

Van's issue is not the Twins. They are transitioning towards 2nd line and eventually 3rd line rolls on this club. IMO the big issue is the perception that Kesler can fill a 1C spot in the NHL. He has not shown that he can. I suspect he could be trade material. It is not often that I see Kesler make his linemates better hockey players. Kassian on the otherhand is showing flashes of doing just that. He could become the anchor of a top 6 line. Trading Horvat in another desperate attempt at playoffs with a roster that is not CUP worthy is more than short sighted.

Not till late in the 3rd did I see anyone screening in front of the net. The PP's were laughable as they passed around a perimeter with the left side dman dropping down for a shot. I started asking myself who was coaching this PP? The only positive for me was the play of Stanton and Luongo. Luongo kept them in it. Not to worry Vinny will save them.
-
Van d-core offense is so bad right now that Weber looks like a Norris candidate. Stanton should be sent down for conditioning as well. Stanton 2 or 3 games. Schroeder 10 games. I know there are time limits to a conditioning stint just saying how many games needed. Putting JS in after 2 games is a joke.
-
Kassian dominated one particular PP as he QB'd off the half wall. He set up some shots that should have gone in. When he controls the mental side of his game he will be a huge force for the Canucks. He will anchor a top 6 line.
-
Another season where secondary scoring has been inconsistent at best. Where would this team be without Santo? The Twins are entering that time in their careers where expectations for them should drift towards a 2nd line role. I have advocated for years that their skill set dominated Canuck thinking. The team might have developed a stronger ID if they had spent more time on different lines. Two premium puck handlers on two lines with some shooters. They have the physical conditioning for another 6 - 8 seasons. Kesler on the other hand has not shown a 1C identity IMHO. Because of this Van would be foolish to trade pics and prospects for a CUP run that would not be serious.

It is laughable to what extent the presstitutes in this country seem to think they control the agenda. The 'hallway' to the Flames dressing room? Torts was trying to enter the Flames dressing room? Who said what to whom? Every rink I ever was in had a somewhat common hallway to dressing rooms. Any comment could have led to a confrontation. Who is the unbiased observer who will 'set the record' straight in NY. What BS. Does the Calgary assistant coach get a call? He looked far more aggressive than Torts. I would also question more than a fine when Roy tried to tear down the divider between benches last fall. That was OK because he was establishing himself. No inquisition by HNIC that night? Quite honestly I am almost done with the NHL.
-
Any coach that can get Calgary playing pretty decent hockey over what they had last year is doing a good job IMO. Does no one think that Hartley didn't watch the clips from Van's trip to California? Calgary can team build as well, no? Hartley threw a challenge/message to Van and Torts answered. Nothing wrong with that. PJ Stock was railing against what he would have done when he was a player. Pretty boring game!
-
The armchair GM's on here are laughable. MG has done a better than average job IMO. I have little idea what he is up against in the hockey world. No one really knows what deals have been contemplated or nixed. The Canuck reality is the team has been dominated by the Sedin Twins for a decade. As their roles transition to a 2nd line role MG will need to replace them with top line forwards. I have doubts that Kesler can play that role. I do not see prospects who can play that role. At best I see Van with a balanced offense until someone steps forward.

[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours.

Ott is interesting as he is an instigator which might jump start Van on some nights. That said I think Richardson has been great at 3C and would feel comfortable going forward with him. Van's biggest problem is scoring. Get a Andrew Ladd. Nice size. Clutch. Cost more than Ott but bigger impact. -
Interesting that Fox was comfortable signing with Van because he grew up with Horvat and plays with Guance. Guance very positive about his Vancouver experience when talking to Fox. Van's Utica team will look great next year.
-
Best Canuck game of the year! The only way it could have been better is if Hank had given Nolan a forearm shiver as he came in on him. Seriously it was playoff hockey. Canucks can refine their physical game. I thought Sestito got a bum call and that Kassian's 2 x10 was excessive. Vancouver plays like that and their talent depth will win them more games than they will lose.
-
What's going on with David Booth?
Boudrias replied to Everybody Hates Raymond's topic in Canucks Talk
Tre Mac; Exactly! Torts sits him as he should and fans turn on him. Send him to Utica and hope that he lights it up so that he can be moved somehow. No body wanted him last time he was waived so that shows little interest at $4.2 mil. -
Sorry but the Twins cannot lead a Canuck team to a CUP. Their time as the go to guys is done. Very valuable 2nd liners with a PP specialty. Not a put down just a measure of their opposition and what it takes. IMHO any success this year will surround Kesler and his line. More and more I see Kassian as a top 6 leader.

What happened to Team Canada can be debated until the cows come home. I thought Horvat's line was the most consistant in a pretty inconsistent performance. Canadian media blowing hot air where the sun don't shine is a big reason. Where has Canadian hockey gone? No team identity, a lot of singular play (Drouin). I think Horvat's line stood out as they were passing the puck with more success than others.
-
Ya, and Druin was the heart & soul of that team, NOT! Canadian hockey has lost itself. It is sickening to see players looking to the ref after every hit or board play. Cherry is bang on. Sutter sold out.
-
I thought Horvat was pretty consistant thru the tourney. Wasn't it T-Bay that drafted Drouin? If so they should be worried far more than Vancouver. Very little team play in his game.
-
Too Early to call Kassian a dissapointment?
Boudrias replied to Go Go Canucks Go's topic in Canucks Talk
As Dingleberry at NBC puts it, he is a 'MONSTER'! He will be a dominant force for the Canucks.
