Sid, sorry to side track but what do you know about Livingstone?
-
Not to worry DeNiro. Livingstone will sign with the Canucks this spring. BC boy comes home to play RD at 6'3" and 210 pounds!

OEL is still serviceable but I question +20 TOI. IMHO his contract, as you pointed out, tells the tale of how players generally peak and then start to slide in performance. OEL was a reclamation project before he got to Vancouver as he was already sliding. I honestly don't see the Miller contract much differently. JT will do well for a couple of years but his regression will happen. Both these contracts will limit CAP opportunity for years. Neither fit well to a timeline for serious CUP compete.

The Laffers are a 'light' contact team so I hope Rathbone gets another game tonight. His skating and passing could do well.

While I expect this lift to be short lived it is a nice break. Really happy with my AVGO buy last month. Just sorry I couldn't buy more. Up $82 per share. -
Each November 11th I remember my mother's cousin who died in Holland 10 days before WW2 ended. My mother said our family was never the same afterwards as Denis was a smiling, unassuming, caring leader. He tried to join at 16 but was turned away. He returned at 17 and was signed up. He was with the Canadian forces when they liberated the Aleutians from the Japanese. He landed in Normandy about D+ 21 days. He fought thru Holland and survived a dozen engagements and received a battle field commission. He was in a command shelter when a German mortar killed him. My mother asked that if I ever returned to Europe that I would go to the Commonwealth Cemetery in Halton and pay respect to Denis's memory which I did 3 years ago. It was a truly humbling experience to see his grave amongst so many young Canadians. A peaceful setting but I left feeling so angry. Why did so many young men have to die there. Why were they left in a foreign land? Those boys should have been brought home and buried in Canada. All Canadians should have the opportunity to visit and honor those who sacrificed so much for us.

Demko's struggles this season is a blessing in disguise IMHO. His superior play last year covered up fundamental weaknesses on the d-side. This year it is truly exposed. It will force change.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Montreal Canadiens | Nov. 09, 2022

I know what you mean. I was very involved thru my son's minor hockey. He played with the same group of kids throughout. You see them develop both as players and young men. After high school they went their separate ways but when they get back together it is amazing how quickly the years disappear. What I find incredibly hard to see is how sad Bo's body language is. I suspect he knows that he could be gone. -

At the end of the day Deb I want a CUP more than I do a successful NHL season. That might sound contradictory but we have all seen competitive NHL regular season teams. SJ comes to mind. This is what I see in our existing roster. If everything goes well for them they might make playoffs and might win a round. IMHO that is not serious CUP contention. Not good enough but not bad enough. If a tear down is in the cards then most of the top players we all cheer for will likely be gone. As one who has cheered for this club from the beginning I have never seen the Canucks do a complete rebuild. Last spring I actually thought that if PA could move Miller and Boeser that they could do a revamp on the fly. Now I am not so sure. Don Cherry always said you build a team from the net out. Old Don has a lot of hockey sense. Canucks have a huge problem on the d-side. Winning with offence largely does not work. -

If Rathbone isn't getting the games he needs to develop in the NHL, and isn't in the teams plans, then send him to Abby and play him there. At a minimum he burns up the AHL and the Canucks benefit from an increased trade value. -
500,000 immigrants a year is doable if there is a concrete plan to house and employ them. I don't even know if there is any federal incentive to build such housing. We haven't had a major housing development in our town in 10 years. Lots of older homes are bought and renovated as bonding is not required. Older experienced builders are not prepared to go thru the bonding process. The hands on experience of apprenticing is being lost as experienced builders either retire or simply scale back to just themselves working. Really sad. No money and no plan is typical of this federal government.

Shouldn't we expect deflation to reassert itself? Demographic doesn't support a lot of growth. Immigration will increase demand in the larger urban areas.

Would you sit Rathbone to play Burroughs Higgy? The profiles say Rathbone is 3 pounds lighter than Hughes. He looks bigger. Elite Prospects has him at 190 pounds. I find this kind of discrepancy frustrating. I like Burroughs a lot and wouldn't mind seeing him platooned with Rathbone based on opposition. That said IMHO Rathbone has far more to show us and he has to have games to do that. I thought he had a good game in Ottawa.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm fine with moving either Miller or Boeser to add to the d-core. Bo not so much as he as shown himself to be a good leader and FO man. He is lights out on office right now but has had extended periods in the past with scoring droughts. I also wish he was a tad more physical. If Bo goes I still want Miller traded but would be easier on Boeser. All of this is thrown up for reconsideration if PA can nab a top 4 UFA defenseman. It still required CAP space. -
How much does he weigh now? Drafted at 167 pounds, Yikes.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Ottawa Senators | Nov. 08, 2022

A fun game to watch even if some weak goals. Bottom line: Our Martin outplayed their guy. When the inevitable scramble starts in the Canuck d-zone how is either Martin or Demko supposed to react? They have the same pressures as their other team mates. They will gamble just like them. If the Sens had hit the net (de BrinCat) they would have won that game. - Much of Rutherford's critic is legit. However Boudreau's job is to win and his d-side won't do that for him unless the goalies play lights out. Canucks need another top 4 d-man that can provide reliable play. - Defense: Considering the number of games YTD I thought Bear had another good game. Rathbone got caught a few times but his puck handling and passing are obviously superior. I hope he plays again in Montreal. He has not got enough games to establish himself and he needs them whether he plays well or not. Canucks have to no what he is capable of. Dermott returning to the lineup might cost Rathbone his opportunity. Sorry but OEL and Meyers are no where close to good enough to be a top PK pairing. - Offence: Canucks have enough fire power to overwhelm defenses if given the opportunity. EP40's hit (can't remember on who) in the 3rd was a beaut. IMHO I consider him the best 2 way player on the team. The 4th line is getting much better. Wow, Garland's ability to stick handle in tight and his puck retrieval is outstanding. * Still think that Miller and Boeser can be moved for d-side upgrade. -
[Speculation] Friedman says NYI scouting Canucks
Boudrias replied to 86Viking's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yikes! Is that our undercover scout? -
Reinhart was darn good Joe. Ohlund, until his eye injury and Denis Keirns were right up there. To bad we didn't have Reinhart earlier in his career.

This road trip could tell the tale for the season. 5 games. By the finish the 20 game plateau will be close. Many GM's will be looking at their rosters to see if they should upgrade. I don't see Vancouver beating out Vegas-Oilers or Flames so is a wild card spot possible? I doubt that too. Sorry. -

If he senses a gut job then I think he moves on. Inevitably I think we are headed for a tear down. Maybe PA is good for that road but is Rutherford. He will likely retire before a new roster matures. Will the Acqullinis be up for that? Will the fans? In 50 years they haven't been. Look how ownership in Ottawa was pillored. Actually the most loyal group has been Edmonton. Years of whoops. -
No I am not putting anyone on notice here. Miller was 6 years old when he started to do this. The adults in this situation failed to notice what was going on. That includes Miller's parents as his behavior was probably manifesting in other situations as well. There again those in the education system should have picked up on Miller's behavior in other situations. Miller's behavior would not have been singular in how it manifested. Many of us will remember situations in school where inappropriate behavior was ignored. Teachers often simply passed their problems up to the next grade as students with emotional problems were passed thru the system. But isn't that the way our society works? People with emotional or mental health problems rarely get the attention they need. People on this thread so anxious to think the worst of Miller don't know from where he is coming from. That is not a defense of his actions! No 6 year old has the capacity to truly understand the 'whys' of his behavior. From 6 to 14 years old and possibly until today his behaviors might not have been addressed. Thinking that Miller is even capable of true introspection might be unrealistic if he has not received help. Many people with such tendencies will simply adapt to societal norms but periodically lash out. Awhile back I read a book written by a GP. He stated that about 1/3 of his patients who came to see him complaining of physical ailments did not in fact have those ailments. What they wanted was a confidant, a shoulder, someone who would say they cared. Yes, some probably were mentally ill. Very sad commentary on the human condition.
