Maybe if his TOI is kept below 20 might help? I'm not impressed most nights.

I guess we will see this spring. He is finished in late March I think. If the Canuck season doesn't turn around there will be big changes anyway. That means opportunity for young talent wanting to crack an NHL lineup. I remain optimistic.

The BC Real Estate Discussion Thread

A high level of naivete here don't you think? Penalize investment capital which is what the left is fawned of doing then reap the rewards IMHO. Build rental for what purpose a 5% return along with the horrendous issues associated with doing so? I doubt there has been a rental property built in my area for 10 years. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I see Miller and Boeser being traded before Horvat. Bo would be a hot commodity if PA did want to move him. To me that would be the wrong move. That said we don't know what Horvat would think about a tear down if that was the plan. He might want to opt out. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign J.T. Miller

The boys with shades, trenchcoats and fedoras, standing behind Jacobs, take care of capping Alf. Whoops I meant CAP. -
The carrying cost of such an investment at $650 million would be $39 million per year. That doesn't include the arena. Yikes!
-
I don't know if his not signing was a miss Alf. He said he wanted his final year championship and to finish his degree. His public statements say he wants to be a Canuck. When you think about it Vancouver should appeal as the team has a talent deficit.

No doubt that the leash is short in Boston. Did Studnicka get a fair shake? Sure there could have been butting heads but that isn't unusual in hockey. DeBrusk had his battles as well, to the point of asking for a trade. I would like to see this kid for 20 games.

Imagine the disability premiums teams pay in the NHL these days. How much does it cost to cover a McDavid or McKinnon if they are knocked out of the game?

We are sounding like pretty dispirited fans this morning aren't we. If a full tear down takes place I can only hope the org that Rutherford has put in place is up to the task. Unfortunately many fans will equate such a move as a guarantee of a CUP. There are no such guarantees in the NHL. IMHO many fans would be happy enough with a winning team that doesn't win a CUP but is there contending. The assessment has to be whether this roster has the pieces to be a true contender. If not can the needed pieces be acquired or do they exist within the existing org? The Canuck history has always been to sacrifice tomorrow for contention today. Someone was complaining about the current ownership. I suspect the Acquilinis are like most Canuck fans they want a winner now. They have spent to max CAP since they took ownership. I have absolutely no problem with the support they have given this team. If it comes down to a decision by them to tear the team down the financial cost to them will be significant. It will also be a bitter pill for them and all Van fans. I don't consider this roster a serious CUP contender. Some nice pieces for sure. The crux of the problem is on the d-side with only 1 serious top 4 defender. The forward group has talent but over reliance on a few. -
Misses the net a lot when he gets a shot and his d-zone play has not stood out IMHO.

I couldn't agree more. Obviously the ask on players differ considerably. Gretzky answered this question many years ago. The re-build on the fly throws a lot of responsibility onto the GM making the right moves and reflects the assessments made by his scouting department. As a fan who has wanted a full tear down since 2014 I am leery of a 'rebuild on the fly'. We have a number of examples of teams coming out of their tear downs with significant talent embedded in their rosters; NJD, OTT, DET and to a more limited degree LAK. IMHO Vancouver has been a team thru its history of rebuild on the fly. It has meant the depth in the org was what you saw on the ice. There was little else. How many times have we seen young players set up for failure as the org threw them into the league without enough support or patience. I have particularly liked the Sens rebuild. They shipped a number of talented players out to build their youth. That young group has matured together and become a very cohesive group. I don't see a lot to get overly excited about with this Canuck group. A lot of hope put on the Russians, Some desperation in the top 9 and one talented defenseman. -
Wow! One of the few reasons I watch the Steelers and now he is leaving. Sure his game has dropped off but he doesn't get the touches he was getting previously. I'll follow him to the Bears!

Identifying players by race, creed or sexual orientation means little to me. Players who actually make the NHL all face challenges of some sort to make it. Saying that I am not suggesting Bear's journey is any less. Many year's ago the Laffers made George Armstrong their captain. Did they do that because he was native? I don't think so. He was a natural leader. Trottier no dif. I wish Bear well but I will watch him as a hockey player.

I don't see Forsling play enough. That said lots of nights he is playing top pairing minutes. If I was smarter I could link his stats. Career; 245 games 25 goal + 62 assists = 87 points or 0.36 ppg (+56). This year; 9 games; 2 goals + 4 assits = 6 or 0.66 ppg and +6. His stats have really climbed over the past 2 full seasons in Florida. At 26 years old his stats are still climbing. If Rathbone could come close to this it would be a solid career for him. Forsling is 186 pounds now and can play defense now. -
Go Lions. I have enjoyed watching them this year. Lots of good players. Have to stop Calgary's running game.

The sad situation with Rathbone is that the Canuck d-core is seriously challenged. Weakest part of the team IMHO. With a stronger d-core Rathbone could be sheltered more. He cannot make a spot without being able to play solid defense. It was the same reason they gave up on Forsling, isn't it? -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

Brock has a superior shot which isn't used all that well. I have called for his trade because of his health record and some concern over his effectiveness. That said he had a decent stretch last year as a net presence. He has value and moving him is all about the return. -
If Rod Brin had reservations then I will as well until proven otherwise. Hurricanes are serious CUP contenders and Van is not. Bear might be part of the group that builds towards contention. Bottom line is he is not costing much so lets watch.

Absolutely agree with you. Pushing this kid into the top 6 doesn't help his overall development. Hogs, no dif.

(Proposal) for Mitchell Marner

No to Marner? The Laffers counter with Nylander and a supply of hot dogs! -

For sure you will meet him when he comes back to the Canucks to coach them to a CUP. His gig in Montreal is just for experience. Does anyone really think he is finished here? He promised us a CUP and Burr is no quitter. One of the best who ever wore a Canuck uniform. -
No, I don't think you are wrong. My memory, as bad as it is, is that Bear moved the puck well in Edmonton. The Edmonton team was no great shakes while he was there so judging his capabilities should take that into consideration. Like his age as that fits well with the core. I am really questioning whether Poolman will ever be back. He might be out of hockey. Can Bear evolve into a a steady 2RD? PA has a 100(?) people in his front office now so surely they have a couple of books written on this kid. Rathbone has had a couple of stronger games. I think he has to get enough games to get a good evaluation. Who I worry about is Kyle Burroughs who is also playing well. At 27 he could be on the cusp. Does Rathbone, Stillman or Dermott force him out of the lineup? Someone probably does. I like his game. Physical, straight line and decent skater. All the aforementioned players are much younger than Kyle Burroughs. As much as I like him I can see him being included a trade.

I thought Rathbone had the best game of his Canuck tenure. He was holding to ozone line well and moving the puck very well. There are new bodies coming into the lineup and returning injury players. I am hoping that Rathbone stays in for 20 games so that we can get a better idea of his potential. Some fans want to trade him but that is a tad quick as we haven't seen enough of him. Everytime I look at Florida I groan over how well Forsling is playing.
