  1. I never had the attachment to Jerry Lee that I had with Elvis and Orbison. Can't explain why.
  2. Exactly. Bruins knew he wouldn’t clear so they moved him. Canucks will have to clear some space for him on the roster.
  3. For sure it often comes down to choices, not all good. What JR & PA inherited was a CAP'ed out team. I have little doubt that the experience within this new management team have a good idea of what they are dealing with. I threw out Dickenson's name but there are others that could have been added. I guess my bottom line question here is whether there is in fact a fractured dressing room. If there is then the org problem goes beyond the product on the ice. Certainly as a fan I have no knowledge of whether my suspicion ha any substance or not. If it has any credence we might see player moves that surprise us all.
  4. I think fans should start asking why Dickenson didn't fit in Vancouver? He goes to the Hawks and is playing lights out. Another point last night. The org spent 2 second round picks getting him and then trading him away. What was going on that 2 coaches, Green and Boudreau could not get a game from him? Is this all about the rumoured discord in the dressing room? Many ex-Canucks are doing just fine on other times. Canucks will be playing against one on Thursday. Rutherford came in and turned management upside down as he let many go and added a huge number. I support this effort and it is early yet on what the results will be long term. I brought Dickenson up as an example of very bad asset management and how important the role of CAP is in the org. To some extent it appears the current management was forced to deal Dickenson.
  5. Pretty sure the new brain trust in Vancouver have a pretty clear idea of what they have and don't have. Question becomes how you address the weak spots. Analytics alone identifies where the problems are. I suspect all the GM's around the league have talked to PA and JR. What Van wants and what they are offering is probably well know. Many Canuck fans are writing the season off. Many fans would be happy enough to do whatever it takes to make playoffs. While I am reasonably happy with the forward group that is where the chips are that could be used to address the d-core. IMHO you cannot be playoff competitive in the NHL with 1 1/2 top 4 d-men. That is where we are today.
  6. Canuck standouts: Demko, Miller and Burroughs Burroughs is rounding into a solid 3rd pairing d-man If Hughes had played the Canucks likely win last night.
  7. Doctors are getting like lawyers. They know where the pickings are good. 6 games in and the Canuck players are dropping like flies.
  8. 2.66 gpg isn't going to win many games. 4.5 goals against per game will definitely lose you a lot of games. What bothers me more than anything else is that Boeser is out again. I wanted Miller moved last spring and thought Boeser might start strong enough this fall is raise his trade value. I think Canucks have to move on from Brock.
  9. He was demanding the contract he got. Likely demanding more than he actually got. He is tradeable without restriction until next June I think. With his price tag he will obviously have to be playing better to attract offers. I would be surprised if JT does not snap out of his scoring funk pretty soon.
  10. Miller likely wanted to say F-off after listening to the same questions for the 10th time. I was one who wanted to trade Miller last spring but I never questioned his desire to play well and win hockey games. Confidence is huge and lack of it causes the half second of indecision that costs goals. I feel sorry for these guys as they struggle thru this challenge. I still think the club needs a 1RD in the worst way.
  11. Ahh yes, the classic forehand/backhand roofer by Burrows. How many times did we see that? Sorry but Roddy Brind'Amour started salivating before he left the Saddledome knowing the Canuck pigeons were next on his list. This guy is hardcore. He'll play Chatfield just to rub it in and get a few more sweaters on the cheap.
  12. Geez Alf maybe we can get Dickensen back from the Hawks. He's scoring at 1.25 ppg. A 2nd rounder might get him. Whoops, we already spent that pick.
  13. I listen to Don's podcasts. He still has it IMHO. They were going thru the teams and he said Canucks wouldn't make playoffs. Also said Mathews wouldn't score 60 when all of Lafferland says he will.
  14. I felt sorry for Miller when the camera picked him up at the end of the game. He looked devastated. I didn't want him resigned because I thought they could get max value for him last spring. Canucks needed major help on the d-side and I thought Miller could bring pieces that would eventually solidify the backend. Top that with the fact that Miller's age didn't compliment the core. I also wanted Boeser moved simply because I don't like his game. Both Miller and Boeser could still be moved but unless their on ice performance improves the return will be less than hoped for. Many fans on here see this group as serious contenders, I don't. Are there players within the org that can make this group a contender? Possibly. Is the long term (4-5 years) better served by trading existing roster players like Miller and Boeser. I side on moving the later.
  15. I was against moving the Utica team to Abby and scratch my head over what I was thinking of? The fact that Juulson can possibly play for the Canucks after playing last night is a major positive.
  16. Really liked his play in the WJC. Canucks developing some depth on the d-side.
  17. My GSY is treading water but AVGO had a decent jump this week. I only took a 1% allocation in AVGO and will buy on weakness. Chips are 75% of sales. They are moving into solutions. We'll see whether GSY can keep growing their revenue and earnings. Their earnings growth next year is tagged at + 26%.
  18. They had a game plan written from the SARS outbreak and didn't use it I don't think?
  19. Deep down I think most Canuck fans think the team is only a player or two away from serious CUP contention. Why shouldn’t they as management has follow the path of adding players in hope of playoffs. The core is, right or wrong, Petey, Hughes and Demko. Everyone else is part of the process. I have called for a rebuild since 2014 and nothing has changed much. The org depth is better but is still very thin. IMHO opinion both Miller and Boeser have to be moved at some point this year. A 1RD has to be found. He doesn’t have to be that right now but has to have serious potential. This takes time and most fans don’t have patience for it. At the end of the day there are no guarantees. The clock is ticking and the core I mentioned have to see a future or they will be gone.
  20. To bad about Poolman. I thought he had a good game in Columbus. Tonight it is the Russian hordes time to shine.
  21. Correspondingly imports become more expensive. Food prices are already going thru the roof. Canadian oil will benefit because they sell in $USD. Canadian companies who have USA sales but report in $CDN gain on the FX. Last Friday the 10 Yr. Canadian yield was 14.3% cheaper than the USA. I was doing business in 1980 when bank rates hit + 18%. To an extent much of this is a confidence game. The dif between 2022 and 1980 is the relative credit worthiness of the government. I would suggest Canada today has far less leeway. Ultimately Canada has a balance of payment concern. Canadian oil exports are providing a lot of USD to help pay for our imports.
  22. Maybe the Canucks finally land Barry Trotz after all these years? Doesn't he have a summer home on the Okanagan?
  23. Bought more AVGO today. Also more GSY. EPS growth +20% by 2024. Entering car finance market which is a big market. I will buy more EIF but must hit my buy target of 42.75.
