So Canucks get a tad of CAP relief and the first guy who comes along is a deal? -
He'll be in Van by next April? I hope he gets a few games then.

Last I looked their debt/equity was 128%. When you consider the amount they have spent on their EV rollout not so bad? One could rightly question FW/EPS and revenue. Value fundamentals are really good but a lot of unanswered question. I'll pass for now. Also looking at AVGO or Broadcom. They are into so many excellent sectors. A lot of leading edge stuff. Solid div grower. CLose to 52 wk low. I have to crunch numbers yet. Might reduce GOOGL and MSFT to buy it. -
I had forgotten all about that. Been years since I saw it here in Canada. Much more common in the USA.

Bottom line, yes. Businesses don't run a dual pricing system. It would be impossible. I guess a sharp consumer who was paying cash could ask for a discount and might get it. No dif from small businesses who run credit accounts. The customer doesn't pay for his credit extension unless he goes over term. Another question you could ask is how 'dividend credit cards' get their rebated cash? It has to be coming from the retailer but I don't know how that works.
-
Don't you think this is much to do about nothing? The fee on credit cards has always been there. Any self respecting business would recognize that cost in their margins so as to recover it. What are retailers going to do add another line on their bills separating the card fees out? It is kinda gimmicky. I remember when credit cards became popular and how as a small businessman I liked them. It reduced the cash on site, eliminated the risk of bounced cheques and yes it reduced the reluctance by consumers to buy. I had a branded franchise outlet which charged 2% to clear my credit cards. I found a broker who would do it for a 1.5% fee. When I took the info to my franchisor it was an emphatic no! I suspected they were getting a slice of that 2% but also realized they were getting valuable customer buying data from their cards. Credit card costs are a big deal for thinly margined businesses where the unit costs cannot be increased.

Apparently their Aetna coverage was downgraded in a survey. I like the Cano purchase. I am hoping they also buy QIPT eventually. -

Anybody looking at GM? Incredibly cheap. FW/PE at 5.7. Possible upside of 62%. FW/PE x P/B = 5 They are selling everything they make and their margins are improving. 2023, 2024 EPS look great. -
I can see many western governments getting worried about their weapons inventory. Might curtail supplies to UAF.

That game last night was brutal. Never seen Wilson miss so many receivers before. Luke Wilson and Jay Onrait are fun to watch after any game. I thought SN fired Onrait?

Both my sister-in-law and nephew had Covid this spring. Both have had health issues for the past 4-6 weeks which haven't put them in bed but have not been feeling well at all. Testing has now established a virus in their kidneys. Their doctor is saying it is becoming common with recovered Covid patients. Both are recovering without pills. Scary since people like Sutter who have had long Covid issues.

Deflation 2010-2020 even with massive government spending. Governments were spending in a failed attempt to increase GDP. No growth was crimping their ability to fund expenditures. IMHO much of this is a reflection of our aging demographic. People are retiring and simply not spending as much. It is one facet of a more complicated equation.

Classic! It wasn't that long ago when the 'Special funds' funds had everyone taking a flyer on useless stocks. Speculating versus investing? Investing is hard enough. But hey it all creates a marketplace. -
Not sure who Virtanen has been playing with but he likely makes the cut. He works cheap.

I think you have to decide whether you are investing or speculating. Either can be a legit approach if you don't get side tracked. I don't like speculating because much of that process is market timing which is difficult to do. Markets have been so volatile over the past year that buying opportunities come along regularly. Huge amount of cash floating around globally, much of it moving in and out of the market on a ongoing basis. Lots of money directed by technical programs. As a value investor some of this movement doesn't make a lot of sense. -

My portfolio FW/PE is 10.3 so I am happy to hold and collect my dividends. I am watching earnings to see if they start dropping but I am actually expecting increases on my energy stocks. Utilities are relatively bullet proof on eps. That was quite a ride today. -
If politicians truly reflect the will of the people then we will get what we deserve. Every time a government spends more money than they bring in it is a tax on the people. Today, in media, from politicians, we hear nothing of what government is actually costing us. Is this deliberate or just lack of knowledge? People have been educated to think that government can defer costs into the future without any day of judgement. Top this whole experience with the lack of GDP growth and Bruce there it is. We are in big trouble.

I lean heavily on the USA. I want to retain the dividend tax credit as much as possible so I look for Canadian companies with healthy USA sales or investments. When the USD strengthens, like now, the return in CDN get a bump. -

I kinda wrote off Europe years ago. IMHO their banks are not investible. Politics permeates much of their investment process. 'To big to fail' is a reality. Countries will make those judgements. I doubt either DB or CS will go under. If the fallout could be contained more minor banks should be allowed to fail. -

I wouldn't hold my breath looking for a new refinery in the Lower Mainland. A sunset industry which has more than enough capacity elsewhere. In the quoted article it labeled Vancouver being a major refining hub. No it wasn't. The refineries mentioned never had much in the way of volumes. If memory serves Shellburn never exceeded 30,000 boe per day. The rest were no better and that is why they were shut down and production moved to Edmonton. Trans Mountain was delivering refined product to storage anyway. The scale of the refineries in Washington State were such that any shortfall in Vancouver could easily be made up. Trans Mountain's upgrade will throw more volume into the market. Suggestions that government throw money into refinery construction is laughable and a tad ironic considering the general BC attitude towards hydrocarbons for the past 15 years.
