[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If it weren't for the team's development timeline I would be for resigning Miller. He is a special talent. As you outlined his age doesn't align with the core hitting their peak years. If I was to bet on any player being able to extend his ppg production it would be Miller. The problem is that is more risk than this org can handle. Especially after trading for OEL. My biggest issue is the duration of any new deal with JT. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I understand the logic of signing players for big bucks when your team is a defending or contending CUP roster. That said I also think the big $ deals will drift down to younger players as well. Not only does it allow the signing team to capitalize on the player but it allows them some flexibility in moving the player if circumstances change. Obviously PA has not received an offer for JT that makes a deal worth taking. We don't know what is on the table for JT right now but rest assured there are offers on the table. At some point a team ups the offer or PA decides there isn't anything more to be had. Either way I don't see JT suiting up for the Canucks in October. The risk that he regrades back to his career mean or that he is injured simply makes the risk to high for the Canucks to risk. Resigning JT is a short term decision which again the Canucks cannot afford. Resigning JT leaves the revamping of the d-core unresolved and leaves the org depth as the solution. This doesn't mean that another player might be moved instead or that a depth player catches fire. My assumption is that Miller has to be moved because he won't resign for an affordable contract. -
I expect that wage demands alone will keep inflation above 5%. Global energy will likely resume their climb back to all time highs. Major factor is how long the Ukraine war lasts? Is the Chinese real estate bubble something that will go global if they have a collapse. Does the Chinese government have the wherewithal to react appropriately?

[Rumor] Canucks interested in Calvin De Haan
Boudrias replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The subterfuge involved involved in player movement must be huge. Many millions of $'s involved. I expect NHL clubs hire some top people to help them craft a strategy. De Hann could easily be a management effort to tell those they have been talking trade too that in fact the Canucks might stand pat and wait for their deal to crystalize. It throws some weight back on other teams who want Miller or some other player they have been talking to PA about. -
To an extent wishful thinking IMO. So many people over extended, AI trading, and huge ETF and mutual funds who have to buy based on their allocation numbers. The fundamentals have not changed enough to assume that inflation does not carry into next year in a significant way. The USA drives the world economy and as they head towards mid-terms the incumbents will try and talk inflation down.

He doesn't PK so lost a lot of TOI. Made some nice passes. Young guy so he drops down. He can build off this.

They should pick up a journeyman then. This kid has to get TOI and reps.

I thought Truscott looked decent enough. Skating strong. Looked bigger than I thought he was. Got more ice as the game wound down.

Why would you want to put a developing player into a 7-8 spot?

Is that his Russian body guard there with him?

Investing in the stock market - Discussion

Exactly. RIO's dividend policy is to pay out 50% of FCF to shareholders. I bought it and it dropped $15 a share within 3 months. But I got a $4 per share Dividend back in April. I can sit on that! If the USD weakens at all RIO and the golds will climb. -

Pending shortage of metals is why I bought RIO-N. So much Stage One thinking going on with the EV conversion. Your point about mining crypto versus the minerals for EV is bang on. Over $1 trillion tied up in crypto which ultimately amounts to a blip in history. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Marky, Tanev and Tofu all gone for no return. Confirmation of the long term asset management fiasco known as the Vancouver Canucks. Yes, limitation of options existed. My point being is that ownership, management and fans talk a long term commitment to CUP contention but inevitably op for playoffs and a outside chance at contention. That is how I view the JT Miller situation. Even if he was resigned the Canuck development timeline does not support serious CUP contention during his hope for premium years. Resigning him eats up CAP space that should be used for resigning the young core and leaving management with enough CAP space to jump on building a younger and deeper core group. Resigning Miller is the higher risk option. -
I was a huge NFL fan years ago and still am to a more limited degree. The CFL with 3 downs kinda lends itself to the passing game whereas the NFL can offer a more balanced attack. Seattle with Wilson and Lynch compared to Lulay and Harris were all fun to watch. The height for me was Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris on the offense and the Steel Curtain led by Mean Joe Greene and Jack Ham. They could win games on the ground and in the air. Wow, flashbacks. This years Lions are a great watch. Rourke is special and he has lots of quality receivers. The running game is OK but not special. When the defense knows that it is a throw on almost every down it becomes their advantage. Rourke is special because he gets the ball off so quickly. The team will go as far as he takes them. That said the defense is much better this year as well. If they continue to get better thru the season we might have a Grey Cup contender.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am hoping Miller gets moved, before Oct.2nd, because it eliminates a lot of possible problems going forward. I agree that he likely has another great season but since he is not likely to resign here I want something back. I don't disagree with the idea that even if he is moved that the Canucks still make playoffs. Bottom line the new management has to be lazer focused on 3-4 years out. Get the CAP space and do further deals from strength. I don't want the team pay structure disrupted by a Miller contract that pays to much and gives to much term. It clouds the timeline. Miller does not fit that timeline. All this aside I wonder how quickly the CAP grows over the next 3-5 years? -

Seriously this company had $25 million in revenue last year. Peaked at $472 billion in market cap. I cannot take this stuff as serious investment. I guess playing this as a trade could be an option but I don't see how it would be anything but gambling. How much time does one one to spend on such things? The older I get the less time I spend. As in 'Jerry McGuire' show me the money. If I am putting my money into a company I want a dividend large enough to warrant my investment. Building a steady stream of cashflow is my imperative. I don't think that as any age limitation. If I could start over it would be my mantra from day one. -

I am still hoping that Miller is moved before camp. If it doesn't happen I can still see his trade even if Canucks are in the playoff hunt. Many different scenarios play into that assumption. Bottom line is it is highly unlikely JT resigns in Van and something is better than nothing. -
+ 16,000 isn't big enough. If I was in the Lower Mainland I would go. The draw has to be 2x that. I doubt the CFL survives with attendance as bad as it is around the league.

I was thinking the same. Perhaps some of Campbell's thinking is that Rourke is a rookie and needs the reps more than anything else. There doesn't seem to be much hesitation in having him run the short yardage plays either. I was a little disappointed that all the backup QB , O'Connor was allowed to do was run the clock down. No attempted passes. I would have expected a couple of playbooks which would have given him more opportunity.

$5 billion trade surplus in July of which about 65% was from energy exports. That means a stronger Canadian $ which cheapens imports for the consumer. Lowers the cost of living. Oil & gas should be used as a tool to help Canadians as they transition away from hydrocarbons not penalized. IMHO Trudeau and his crew are incompetent.

[Signing] Devils re-sign Miles Wood
Boudrias replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Now that's a package! -
My thought on refineries was the short term loss in demand for feedstock would have a downward pressure on price. I just don't see the level of highway traffic I expected this summer. Many people likely staying closer to home. I agree that any reduction in price will be short term. Processing capacity has not changed. A full blown recession would drop demand. Everyone had better hope it isn't a cold winter.
-
When you look at such price moves how do you factor all the variables? Are companies hedging and how much? Are production expectations increasing? Did the Chinese taper their buying? How much are the Americans releasing from their strategic reserve? Has demand tapered because a refinery went down? The market has been so tight any variation causes market volatility. Top all this with the huge amount of money sloshing around the world looking for a play.

[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Boudrias replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I agree totally. The crunch will come when some players aren’t willing to work the timeline. Look at how quickly Ottawa shipped players out who were not in line. The Avs had a bit of that as well.
