  1. Interesting. Gates did a talk about his plant that could be mass produced and major components shipped to locations. Sounded pretty realistic.
  2. OK not much water. The beers were only 55 cents.
  3. Look at how deep the Avs were. Canucks have a way to go. I am a fan from the beginning and want to see a Cup before I get planted. That said the long term is the way to do it. Over 50 years it was always about short cuts. Biggest issue is managing assets and realizing when the team has to move on or make changes to improve the team. Deal from strength not desperation.
  4. Look at the reaction to the lady in Victoria who advertised for a doctor to treat her husband. She was swamped by feedback according to her CKNW interview. She was calling for a public inquiry as throwing money at the problem would likely not solve it. I think Horgan should jump on this idea. Housing and healthcare will likely be the biggest issues in the next election.
  5. Bill Gates was financing a proto type small reactor model. It was to be built in China but I have not heard if it is moving forward.
  6. Is Podz back in Canada? I worry about him getting out of Russia.
  7. Bottom line is that sports teams provide content. Broadcasters are desperate for content so they are at the mercy of the providers no matter how they couch it. If I remember correctly the new USA broadcast deal with the NHL was delivering about $5 million per year to each NHL team. It made me think that CAP limits would increase faster than expected.
  8. Lots of reality and truth in what you say. IMHO the gutsiest play by a Canadian team in many years has been Ottawa. Does that mean they become serious contenders before any other Canadian team? I don't think the Laffers are good enough as they put to much $'s into too few players. With goal tending maybe the Oilers. Vancouver has a way to go and I don't think there is enough depth now or coming in the org.
  9. I thought Philly was pretty patient with Mac. Used him as they needed him and he had a clear idea of expectations. Things were so touchy in Van during the losing that Mac was afraid to do anything that might put his team in a PK. He always seemed willing to step up to defend his team mates. I don't know whether he will be able to stick in the NHL or not as there are always younger players coming to bump you out. Glad he got another contract.
  10. Defense: Better after Boudreau arrived but still poor. Is Meyers a 1RD? Don't think so. Was Hamonic a 2RD? Maybe but I don't think so. Is Schenn a #1 or #2 RD? I don't think so. The left side was the strength of the d-core Hughes and OEL. I thought Dermott was a good add. If he can play the other side as well then good. Poolman is a question mark for me but my take is he is not a top 4 player. Canucks absolutely need a top 4 RD prospect. Highest need in the org. If Miller can deliver that by trade then they have to move him.
  11. Carolina doesn’t seem to have suffered much taking a Montreal player. They ended up paying to much.
  12. I know I sound like a broken record but my championing the energy sector was the only avenue I saw of preventing an almost inevitable takeover by the Americans. The revenue would have made Canada a far more independent force. I realize it would have guranteed nothing if the Americans used overt force. I admire the Americans for many things but the Canadian reality is that the USA has used us just as we have used them. The difference being that they are 10X bigger.
  13. The Great Lakes Compact agreement passed by Geo Bush in 2008 gives Great Lakes border states and Ontario and Quebec veto power to large diversion of Great Lakes water. That said if the water is not moved out of state then border states can access the water. These exceptions are increasing each year. The Ogallala Aquifer in the mid-west supplies water to 1/5 of all USA corn, wheat, cotton and cattle production. Some thought that populations will migrate to the water rather then pipe it out.
  14. We were in Cabo San Lucas years ago and were told all the water in the resort was sourced from under the beach in front of the buildings. The salt water was strained thru the sand and filters to produce potable water. I had never heard of this before.
  15. Glad to see that the Americans aren't being intimidated by the Chinese. Dry weather is emptying the American aquivers and surface storage. How long before they look to Canada for major diversion of water south? IMHO it will be the end of Canada. My tin foil hat tells me the reason the Canadian oil industry was trashed was to keep Canada weak enough to be compliant. It was the only vehicle that could have generated the dollars to allow an independent Canada.
  16. I see the Pope, media and hangers on had not trouble going maskless during a flight recently? Law for some but not others?
  17. I wish Brandon Sutter recovery from Covid. Quality person going thru hell.
  18. Burnhnam should be back next game. Best hands in the CFL.
  19. The Seahawks have peaked and Russell is gone so I am back into the Lions camp. Roarke is fun to watch but the d-side is also much better. That said I watched the Calgary-Winnipeg game and they were very good. I think the Lions can build thru the season and challenge.
  20. There is nothing that forces politicians to toe any line when it comes to finances. Until that happens nothing will change. I am a big advocate of the kitchen table where budgets are hammered out. Everyone doesn't always get all that they want. The process itself is an education. If your arguments cannot carry the day then rethink and resubmit. Lobby those who might benefit. Today it is all top down. The vast majority of people are serfs. Respect capital and labour. Most of all respect the family.
  21. Miller can't control where the Canucks trade him. Or can he? Any team that wants to deal will want him to resign as part of the trade. If JT isn't much interested in going to a particular team he can make demands that ensure the acquiring team's interest will go away.
  22. Just imagine the accounting bill for a day trader. Factor that into your P&L.
  23. But isn't that the issue? He was found innocent. His career earnings potential has been harmed, thusly a suit to recover. Yes, a case can be made that Jake's long term income was being impacted by his level of play. No argument. If he had no future in the NHL then many players end up in Europe making a living playing hockey. This charge and subsequent acquital has impacted his long term earnings potential and possibly his ability to get a job. I don't know the detail of how the Canucks and the NHL were able to drum Virtanen from the league but I suspect he will have cause to recover funds. Obviously a guess on my part.
  24. With all the anti oil sentiment in Canada for the past 7 years I cannot see why oil companies would invest more money? I guess they haven't been. I see the Saudis admitted today that they cannot ramp up production as much as they thought. Russian production has peaked as well. The sanctions have taken away their access to western oil tech that was maintaining their flow rates.
