Ridiculous to speculate before studying him on practice or at the actual NHL game-level. I will be happy if he succeeds and is miracle boy in action. If u start exaggerate on his actual performance after his debut then i would have an issue with it. I dont care for words, i want results. Prove on the ice that he can perform on the level u describe. If not then id say ur just a fanboy. If he performs badly and ur still praising then id have an issue with it. Tough love if u so want to call it that. I want to see something from him on the ice...something that shows he has got something that will place him on a solid path to greatness. If so only some details that shows he has potential. But dont exaggerate it plz, it easily turns rather silly....Everyone has expectations and i will definetly support his journey, but i will compare it to what it takes to be an NHL Defenseman. Hes young and full of potential, question is how good is he right now? that is something that is truly exciting in my world anyway cant wait to see the kid play.
-
Well.....i will quote u on that and hope u will be right, coz that would be like a godsent miracle appearing for the D on this team. Dont pressure the kid too much, hes young. jesis...

Lol at some of the thoughts on here....let the kid come and see how he adapts to playing in the NHL. Ive read posts on Dahlin being crappy so im wondering how they will think of Hughes. This will be his first time competing at this level and with a team thats fighting without a cause (playoffs). Dont expect miracles, just try and see details and how things might be if what is needed falls into place. Huge expectations from everyone, but i mean seriously its sooo much harder to come into the league as a Dman and becoming established. I dont have any other expectations on him other then that his passing play should be above average. Thats it. Much needed for the teams D.....

Well since brock and petey were split up and some experiments with different lines no wonder he was missed. immediately when jake returned bo got his partner back and Leivo got to play with brock and petey and they are starting to produce again.
-
Very nice indeed to see Jake back. He was severly missed on offense and immediately made an impact. With tanev getting back and the recent signing of hughes theres something to look forward to for the next game.
-
Finally! exciting to see this guy on the ice, hopefully adding another dimension to the D. hope to see him both on PP and PK. Let him eat up as many minutes as he can handle. not many games left anyway. Let him get into his groove and hopefully he will evolve as everyone expects him to do.

If leivo continues like he has i dont think they will be separated. As long as he keeps up the skating and finding open ice he should be on that line.
-
Im thinking more quinn and tanev or quinn and edler. Quinn has to be on the top 4 Dmen anyway. He needs to grow and develop.
-
Leivo was probably our best forward against the Coilers. He was the one that cut through the Midzone and found open ice with his powerful skating and that is exactly what is needed as a third liner with EP40 and Brock. I really enjoyed seeing them together again.
-
Edler is HUGE for this team. Hes like 15-20% better then all other D on canucks roster. The importance of his offensive play, with puckdistribution and his positioning and shooting is on another level then the other Ds. And his size and skill in the Dzone is without question one of the few that can battle in front of the net. The only thing that would seem logical if u trade him would be for a 1st round pick, a young talented defenseman and some conditional picks. Otherwise id so happily lock him up for a 3 year deal 5 mill NTC. GLADLY!! hes so important for the team and reaching his level is no easy task. Hes not fast anymore but the positioning and his skillset is just so high. See how Biega even seemed to have improved when playing with Edler? Edler should be the mentor for hughes when he arrives. Watch and learn kiddo......this is one of the best the nucks has ever had.
-
I say lock Brock (pun intended) for long term, 5-8 years 6 milion. The kid is young and got a natural nose for the net. If he spends the summer working hard on skating and conditioning along with some mobility training, i bet he can combine that wicked shot of his in full speed. It would raise his level of play tremendously. If he nails that id say he will definetly get even more multiple point games and goals playing with EP40.

Despite the 3 gaols against the coilers, id say Demko is an ok backup thats on the rise of becomg established. That save on draisalts breakaway was awesome. hope he gets a few more games behind Marky on these last games of the season.
-
Both jake and Baer are severly missed on offense.
-
Yup, the thing is hes been so amazing everyone expects him to score every other game and combine it with a couple of assists. The kid has been a impact player on the team and his importance for the teams success is simply huge. It is a long season and he just needs to work through this and strive to improve and grow with the task. Every team he faces sees him as the no 1 threat and rightfully so. It will take some time to solve this as a team and for his line to find solutions together in order to generate oportunities. I still follow his progress with every move he makes and we talk about Elias this and Elias that at the local gym. Its not like its in Vancouver only that ppl sees his greatness. Everyone is taking notes of it and with such a great start to his NHL career the expectations are always big when he plays. Like mentioned its 8 goals from tying a scoring legend like Pavel Bure we are talking about here. Sure that would be a great accomplishment, but id say hes done an amazing job so far, and since he is in a slump he will learn from this as well and find ways to work through this also.

watched the game against the isles. They always kept 1 marking player and always prioritized teaming up 2 against Petey. There has got to be openings for the other players on his line when they do that. Then again this injury epidemic is hurting the team badly. either players elevate their game or theres no chance of making the playoffs.
-
this is a tricky injury and u cant do more then play only if ur healthy and ready for it.
-
god everyone is putting masive pressure on hughes. Its always more difficult for a Dman to take the step up to be a established NHL player. I have no idea how good hughes is on that level but i am positive his passing game will be good. What is needed is a D that can SHOOT. The only one that can do that is Edler at this point. He has a massive slapshot. Does hughes really have that? i have no idea but i know that is what is needed. Otherwise the Boxplay facing the PP can simply take more chances since the shot will not be concidered as high of a threat. I am really hoping to see some great things from hughes....but im not so sure about his shot.

Well as good as petey is, both he and his line was taken down efficiently by yotes defense. I hope they learned from playing this kinds of system that the yotes use and take control next time they meet. Nucks is a better team then the yotes and should normally have a slight edge over them. Concerning the constant talk over his bodyweight, i would say they are mos likely gonna give him a pretty thorough training program to gain muscle so that will come pretty easy. Its a question of how he will be able to use that on the ice as well as how his experience from his first year will make him react and "think" hockey. It will take time and hard work, but for now theres no stopping him. He will simply keeps evolving. tip of the iceberg........
-
I still think Bo is a better 2 way player. He doesnt have peteys brilliant hockey IQ or shot, but he has great defensive capabilities and omg how good he is on faceoffs. Bo is more natural as a leader. Petey will most likely become the captain once he has matured as a person a bit more. So maybe in 2 years he is captain. But right now i cant find a better captain then Bo for this team.
-
The sedins are not part of the team so its only natural they will not be ones to interfere or want to make an impact. Im sure they are curious about EP since he has had such great success playing for the team they have spent so many years in. However they dont know him personally but are probably curious about him like everyone is, and i think they just dont want to take any influeantal part in the team since they are no longer playing. Sort of a let the team grow on their own with mentors/teammates thats on the team and not say or do something that would risk a negative impact "from the outside" so to say. Afterall, its a team thats on the start of rebuilding the core and the star players of the team. They need to find their own way.

NHL Network with an analysis on EP40
-
I agree with u fully on that. kinda lacking Ds that can shoot...
-
I just thought it has become so appearant that everyone now recognizes EP40 as the biggest threat of the team on That 3-3 tying goal vs the kings. he had 3(!) players, both of the d-men watching and going for him as the puck then went open to gaudette that got the scoring oportunity and made the most of it. its just.....so poetic that these oportunities will arise more and more. Man i wish they played tonight again....all games are crucial to get to the playoffs. Petey is evolving to a hockeygod. Good times....good times....only dark cloud in those blue skies are all these injuries atm.

Stecher has taken the role of edler on the pp and hes doing a good job there.
