Thank you for your insight. You really know the Wild. I’ve felt that BB’s value would be quite high in Minnesota with him being a hometown hero, but you’re right, maybe that wouldn’t be the best fit for him.
-
Just curious, would you do Dumba for Boeser? I personally would hate to see BB go, but if we could do a multiplayer swap with Minnesota and get Dumba and Greenway back that’d be pretty great. It would address two of our biggest needs; a minute munching skilled RHD and a massive physical winger who can chip in a few points.

Forwards Toffoli - sign as long as it doesn’t exceed 5.5. I think he’s too good of a fit on Petey’s wing to let him walk. Leivo - I’m hoping he comes back. A perfect third liner in my mind. I’m sure we can sign him for a very low cap hit as well. Virtanen - It’s difficult to say what the market value would be for him, but if we could package him and a B prospect for a fast, big #3 defensemen then I’d be all for that. Virt has so many weapons but his low hockey IQ (by NHL standards) and his frustrating beyond belief inconsistency in effort, make me feel that it’s time to move on. I don’t think these playoffs did much to help his value, but hopefully his 18 goal shortened season is still fresh enough in other teams’ minds. Sutter - man if there can any takers for him out there, then we take it and run. Just too slow, and so often looks completely winded when back checking (head down and gasping all while moving relatively slowly). I commend his effort, but I think Father Time is catching up to him. Defensemen Tanev - being banged up so often he will undoubtedly want term probably over dollars. If Benning can work some negotiating magic and sign him to a very reasonable contract then I’d love to see him stick around for a couple more seasons. He compliments Hughes so well that I’d hate to see him leave. Also, he’s just such a warrior. Fantenburg - a solid 7 D option. I’m sure we can resign him to a 1-2 year contract for pretty cheap. Stetcher - I love this kid’s heart, but if he could be use a piece in a trade to either unload Sutter for a usable piece coming back the other way, or packaged with Virtanen to get a true #3 d man, then I’m all for it. Juolevi / Rathbone / Rafferty - time to give these guys some lengthy looks. Time for some fresh blood and more speed on our backend. Goalies Demko - our goalie of the future and probably even present Markstrom - Resign him only if a NMC doesn’t apply to the expansion draft. We absolutely cannot lose Demko in that draft. All in all, I feel that we need more speed and tenacity sprinkled throughout our line up. If we could have an entire bottom six with the heart of a lion like Motte then I’d be happy. I love that “high motor” guys is what we targeted in the last few drafts because those types of guys, and a lot of them, are exactly what every team needs to win. Podkolzin, Hoglander, Rathbone and even the forgotten man Woo are exactly those types of players and I’m estatic that they’re all property of the Canucks. With the high end youth we currently have and those prospects coming up, I think we’ll be dangerous for years to come.

So proud of these guys. This was a big stepping stone year for the Nucks. Thank you for creating this post. I agree with the majority of your ratings. Just a couple I would personally change: Horvat - A - such a good all round playoffs. What he did in the face off circle is was astounding. Scored a ton of big goals. Heart and soul. Virtanen - C - brought energy at times. But man watching him try to make plays on the second PP unit is painful. Such low hockey IQ but so many other dangerous weapons at his disposal. I would love to see him put it all together Edler - B- - pretty good playoffs all round, but some pretty big gaffs, especially tonight. I think his age and wear and tear are catching up with him.

Did anyone see what happened to Ferland? Man I hope it wasn’t another head injury for him.

Can anyone help me out with this? On NHL.com it looks like the draft order will be determined by PPG. If so, it looks like we would be drafting 15th as the standings currently are if we were to lose (I pray we can pull this out though). So if we lost (again I really don’t want us to lol) that would mean the Wild would leap frog us, dropping us to 14th pick? And say there’s a few more upsets and Arizona, Chicago and Calgary were to win, then we would move up even more spots to 11th. Is this right? Thank you Again I’d love us to win, but it would be nice to know that there could be a silver lining such as a pick in the 11 to 14 range depending on how things shake out with the other teams. Of course a shot at the first overall pick is pretty sweet too.

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he was just keeping the seat warm though for when Benn comes back. It would be great to see Juolevi get this chance, but also pretty crazy pressure to put on him... his first NHL action in a play in round. All in all I’m incredibly happy to hear that he’s had a solid camp. I feel very bad for all the setbacks this kid has had. He’s due for some good luck.

This makes sense for Beartschi. I’m selfishly happy to hear the news though because his future with the Canucks is already basically done, whereas Lind is just getting going. Having Lind come to the training come will be much more beneficial.
-
Agreed. Nonetheless, I think a fully healthy Brock playing against his hometown Wild is gonna light it up in this series and squash any of this crazy talk about trading him... or it will increase his value so much that we might even be able to package him for a gem like Chabot. I think there’s very few scenarios that could pry Chabot away from Ottawa though. The guy is an absolute stud.
-
Looks like he’s put up solid numbers his entire life. Hmm, maybe this could be another free gem like Rafferty.
-
Yes, but with us only playing 69 games all things are not equal here. As I broke down in my post, if you go by the points per game average we’re actually ahead of the Jets and Flames, therefore putting us in a playoff position.
-
If the season and playoffs both end up being canceled, I’m wondering what will happen with our first round pick this year? The way I see it, it could play out a couple ways: 1. because we were technically in a playoff position, Tampa gets our first pick 2. because it was never officially determined whether we were going to make the playoffs or not, we retain our pick for this season and Tampa gets our first next year. I’m thinking that to determine the order of picks in the draft, they will calculate the points per game average. So even though we’re currently 12th from last place, after calculating the point per games average it drops us down three spots to 15th I believe. This is the equation. I used to determine the Canucks points per game average for this year: 78 points / 69 games played X 82 games = 92.70 points Using the equation above it would actually leap frog us ahead of the Flames, Rangers and the Jets despite those three teams having more points than us. Reason being is because we’ve played less games. The Flames and Rangers average out to 92.54 points and Jets average 92.39 I also wonder what they’ll do with the draft lottery?

This is what I came on here to find out too. Ultimately I think no one knows at this point. The way I see it, it could play out a couple ways: 1. because we were technically in a playoff position, Tampa gets our first pick 2. because it was never officially determined whether we were going to make the playoffs or not, we retain our pick for this season and Tampa gets our first next year. So even though we’re currently 12th from last place, after calculating the point per games average it drops us down three spots to 15th I believe. It’s a pretty simple calculation to determine the average: 78 points / 69 games played X 82 games = 92.70 points Using the equation above it would actually leap frog us ahead of the Flames, Rangers and the Jets despite those three teams having more points than us. Reason being is because we’ve played less games. The Flames and Rangers average out to 92.54 points and Jets average 92.39 I also wonder what they’ll do with the draft lottery?

I’m not trying to be insensitive, but if the season were to be suspended and eventually even cancelled due to the Corona Virus, then it looks like we would currently be picking 12th overall in the draft. That’s crazy that after such a good season that we could end up with that high of a pick. Of course with the standings being so close, one win could catapult us all the way up to about 18th or 19th. Tweets such as the ones below from an article in The Province make it sound like it’s a real possibility: https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/cult-of-hockey/national-basketball-association-postpones-season-is-the-nhl-next-not-now-tsns-dreger-reports/wcm/2ed0d9ca-cf32-4427-9485-57e6278f9931 Adrian Dater @adaterRumors are heavy – and these are people connected to the game telling me this – that NHL will follow NBA lead and suspend season. Eric Engels @EricEngelsOne exec said, if one player gets it, the whole thing is done. Now it’s happened with the NBA and the league has suspended its season…Spoke with people all around the NHL today. Last thing anyone wants is to cancel the rest of the season/playoffs. Belief is that all options would be examined before that 1 is exercised. But general sense I got was most feel it’s a matter of when, not if, action will be suspended

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Edmonton Oilers | Oct. 02, 2019

Solid game by the Nucks. We definitely looked like the superior team. A couple bad mistakes cost us though. Sutter was terrible on the McDavid goal. Schaller looked pretty slow. Swap Schaller for the speed demon Motte, and worn down Sutter for the fresh and hungry Gaudette and I think we have a faster, better team. All and all I enjoyed that game a lot. Myers looked fantastic. Hughes was dynamic. Pettersson looked dangerous as usual Miller was solid as well, I really like that addition. -
[GDT/PGT] 9/26 Canucks vs Coyotes @ 7:00 PM

I like that lineup. I really hope Jake can regain some confidence and put some anger in his game, then take one of the spots on the 4th line. A handful of games in the A might serve him well. I think Motte should hang around as the 13th forward though. I love his tenacity. -
Wow! Watching these videos his speed and feistiness really stands out. This guy is entertaining!

A few takeaways from the Victoria game: Benn is a beauty! I feel like he’s everything I always hoped Guddy would be. He plays a solid game. Very gritty, sound positioning, and nice passes. He will shore up the mid/bottom pairings of our D-corps. Such a good signing! Miller and Horvat have some great chemistry. Miller’s no look pass on Horvat’s goal was gorgeous. And his pass at the end of the first period which Horvat hit the side of the open net with was extremely nice as well. Miller is a gamer. He’s going to compliment the high end players on our team perfectly. Kole Lind looked much better than last year. I think a healthy off season really helped. This kid might just materialize into a top six winger within a couple years. I’m happy for him (and us lol) after the tough season he had last year. I know it’s just one game, and a rather ugly one at that, but I feel like GMJB made excellent moves this offseason. And the contracts he’s signed (including Boeser) were all very reasonable. He’s evolving into a very savvy general manger, rather than just being a decent GM and a great scout IMO.

Plus 2 for Woo! Nice. I’m stoked to see this kid play some preseason games.
