  1. Great post! Especially in retrospect I’m so stoked with this pick! He brings much needed grit and nastiness to our top 6. And a great all round talent, killing penalties, back checking, and lighting the lamp.
  2. I wonder if Canucks have actually completed a few trades and are waiting for the draft for them to be announced in front of their home crowd?
  3. I like where you’re going with this! It’d be great if we could convince them to swap their 8th pick for 10th as well. I feel like Benning might be missing some of the obvious ones though and is too busy barking up the wrong trees, for instance the moment that Karlsson signed that contract, Benning should’ve been on the Sharks regarding Braun (who knows maybe he was though, as I’m obviously not privy to what’s actually going on behind the scenes lol).
  4. Make this happen Benning! Seeing Juolevi and Puljujarvi on the ice together, hopefully rekindling some of the magic from the 2016 World Juniors would be awesome! Who knows, maybe when Aho and Laine become free agents they’ll come here to reunite the band lol. Seriously though this guy has so much potential and his career is just getting started, not to mention he’s 6’4” 200 lbs at only 21. We should absolutely make Edmonton a solid offer. I would love to see him with Horvat and Pearson. The three of them are some big strong guys with a lot of skill. This could be the type of line that could help him reach his potential and would be very difficult for opposing defencemen to contain. Then sign Anders Lee as Pettersson’s LW with Boeser at RW and we’re looking good! Much stronger top six than last year.
  5. When reading Button’s latest list (https://www.tsn.ca/trouba-trade-adds-canadian-content-to-tsn-hockey-s-mock-draft-5-0-1.1321746 ) I came upon this statement regarding the Hurricanes: “Owner Tom Dundon says his team will not draft defencemen in the first round as long as he is owner.” What a ridiculous thing to say. You not only lose leverage by showing your cards, but openly say you won’t allow your GM and scouts to freely to their jobs, and forget about picking BPA if that player happens to be a defencemen. With owners like this guy, and Eugene Melnyk out there, it makes me actually pretty grateful for the Aquilinis lol.
  6. If there’s any truth to the rumours of trade talks between Vancouver and Buffalo, and if it’s Bogosian we land, I hope part of the trade results in being is a swap of our 10th pick for their 7th. Picking 7th could possibly put us in striking distance to make a move for Byram if he’s still on the board at the 5th or 6th spot. Come on Benning, make like Burke drafting the Sedins and think multiple steps ahead.
  7. I’ve only watched a few Sabres games the last couple years, so I’m asking this question sincerely; upon taking a quick peek at Bogosian’s stats and Ristolainen’s stats from last year I saw that Bogo played 65 games last year and was a -5, and Risto played 78 games and was a -41. Obviously stats only tell you so much, and Risto put up way more points, however is Bogo really that much better defensively? Did he maybe just get much easier assignments?
  8. This quote basically kills my hopes of getting Boldy, the left winger, lol. Of course we all know that wingers hold the least value of all the positions, but Benning’s emphasis here on the order of positional importance really makes me think that he won’t be going with a winger with this year’s 10th. My guess is that he’s targeting Söderström, Krebs and Zegras. Possibly Broberg too. Both Krebs and Söderström just scream a Benning kind of player to me. The great thing is that anyone of those four players would be a very welcome addition to our prospect pool. Broberg has a few elements of his game that make me a bit nervous, but if he reaches his potential he could easily be better than the other three players mentioned. Also, he’s extremely entertaining to watch I’m personally hoping for Zegras though.
  9. Some serious droppers in McKenzies rankings; 71 - Patrik Puistola 82 - Pavel Dorofeyev I’m hoping one of those guys is there when we draft in the third round.
  10. Does anyone know who all has come to Vancouver for extended interviews? I know that Krebs came, and I believe Zegras as well, but any word on any other players? Thank you
  11. One of my favourite jerseys when I was a kid was the Hartford Whalers (kinda strange I know lol) and that redesigned jersey with the white stripes kinda reminds me of that... which is a good thing! Man I wish the Canucks would take a look at that image and just make those couple tweaks. Of course they won’t, no large company would, but my goodness those extra couple of white lines makes a big difference.
  12. I really like all of them, and I’m honestly just so happy we didn’t end up with the cartoon Johnny Canuck. I have a retro jersey and even the little Johnny Canuck shoulder patches drove me nuts lol. And it makes so much more sense now with the retro stick and skate logo having the ice be white and the stick being blue. It takes a bit of getting used to but I think it’s going to pop beautifully during games. Also, I was never crazy about the “Vancouver” on the old jerseys, especially when their motto was that “We are all Canucks”. It’s kind of contradictory to say we’re all Canucks (referring to our entire province) and then blatantly single out Vancouver on our chests lol. I think the jerseys look perfect now with the wording gone and the logo larger and slightly higher up so that it no longer sits like a belly patch lol! Just my opinion.
  13. This! His insanely high hockey IQ would also make him a great fit for Pettersson. These two extremely intelligent, hard working and highly skilled players on line together wouldn’t even be fair for the opposition. Outside of the top three, I truly believe that Boldy would be the best fit for our team.
  14. I love the jerseys but I hate the photoshoot they did. It’s like everyone is posing for a selfie lol. Why the mean mugs?
  15. If say Dach or Cozens have dropped to 8th, which is a real possibility, I’d say there absolutely is a point to moving up because there’s very little chance those guys get past Anaheim. However if we try to make that trade on the draft floor I don’t think Edmonton would be inclined to do so with the opportunity of picking up a skilled power forward who can skate extremely well. If we want to swap picks with them, then best chance we have of doing so would be before the draft. And even if the Canucks have limited interest in those players, they undoubtedly have a list of probably five guys that they would like at the ten spot, but just because there’s five guys on that list doesn’t mean they view them all equally of course. They will have their preferences on that list and moving up two spots will likely ensure that they land the guy the covet most. The guy that went two spots lower than Hughes last year was Kravtsov. The guy that went two spots lower than Pettersson was Anderson. Two spots can make a huge difference.
  16. Yeah there’s some unrealistic proposals going on in here. I’d be happy swapping players as well as swapping the 10th for the 8th, and hopefully a mid round pick.
  17. Very good read here: https://thehockeywriters.com/2019-nhl-mock-draft-round-1/ Larry Fisher brings up some great points in his mock draft, many of which have already been mentioned on CDC, but still with a read. A few few interesting takeaways from this article (these are very brief notes): - Turcotte goes to Chicago because he’s a hometown boy (a rarity for the Blackhawks) and to could be a great successor to the ageing Toews - Podkolzin goes to Detroit because Yzerman has played with many great Russians and built a team of great Russians in Tampa. If there’s anyone who will see his value and not be sacred away by the Russian factor it’s Stevie Y. - Broberg goes to Buffalo because they like their Swedes, he could be good playing with Dahlin, and he’s got exceptional raw talent. It’s funny, I’ve seen Broberg play several times now and although I see his potential, I’d rather us go with a forward at 10, but Fisher’s points almost make me a Broberg believer - Newhook goes to Vancouver because we don’t have many speedsters in the top six and that part of his game could really compliment our top six.
  18. Absolutely agree. That’s why I was saying if “one of the sweeteners” was swapping picks and no the only sweetener. So in short, your proposal plus swapping picks. And i I think it almost goes without saying that Loui would have to be going the other way.
  19. It’d be nice if one of the sweeteners to taking that extra year of Lucic’s contract (and the very important expansion draft aspect) was that Edmonton would swap their 8th pick for our 10th. We would basically be guaranteed one of the forwards in this draft that many on here covet. Very likely at least two of the four of Cozens, Dach, Boldy and Zegras would be there at the 8 spot. Even though Anaheim needs more D prospects, with the decline of almost all of their key power forwards, I don’t see a big body like Cozens, Dach or Boldy getting past them.
  20. Thank you! You saved me a ton of typing lol. I couldn’t agree more with everything you wrote. I want to like Jake, I truly do as he has some great strengths, but I just find myself frustrated with what could be too often.
  21. Wow Button’s List is straight cooky dooks, but interesting as hell lol. Oh man if we got to choose between Dach, Turcotte and Cozens!! I don’t see any way whatsoever that all three of those players are there when we’re picking. And if things played out similar to this, and Soderstrom was still available at 25 I bet Benning would be offering up our second and whatever else it took to get that pick. Waking out of the draft with Turcotte or Cozens as well as Soderstrom would be absolutely insane. When reading Button’s list I kept hearing his comments during the U18s playing through my head. I think he’s solid at what he does, but he falls in love with certain players and seems to put on his blinders when watching them. For instance I watched ever Canada game and I personally wasn’t nearly as impressed with Harley as Button was. Even when Harley had a bad shift Button would somehow find a way to praise him. It was the same with Broberg.
  22. I like Jake and think he’s a solid third liner, but I would be more than willing to trade him for Zucker. Jake probably will very likely become a 20 goal scorer (he probably would’ve gotten there this year if it wasn’t for injuries) but one thing that he has always lacked, in juniors and now in the big league, is solid hockey IQ and for that reason I’d be willing to part ways with him. Hockey IQ cannot be overstated. Green has definitely helped him improve on that a bit, but honestly I think that the ability to think the game at a high level is simply something you’re either born with or not. And then there’s his inconsistency with effort which drives me absolutely nuts, because when he’s firing on all cylinders it helps make up for his low IQ game, but the second he takes his foot off the pedal he becomes a detriment to the Canucks.
  23. Nope, that’s far too much term. I’m definitely not okay with that. If we could get him at 5x6 or 6x6 max then I’d be okay with it. With the cap raising as often as it does, just a few years into his contract 6 million will seem closer to 5. NHL inflation lol
