I completely agree with all of this. And yep, at 11 we’re going to have a lot solid players to choose from (many of which would easily be top 10 picks in an average draft class draft). There is a chance (albeit a slim one) that all three of the players you mentioned are available at the 11 spot. If so, which would you choose? As it currently stands I would lean towards Moore, but I really like Dvorsky too.

If the hockey gods aren’t feeling gracious enough to grant us Bedard or Fantilli, then please at least let this happen PS that is one stacked top 16 IMO. A strong case could be made to draft any of those players. Having said that, I’m not super high on Yager. Of the players that might still be there when we pick, I’m really liking Leonard and Barlow. Unfortunately I highly doubt Reinbacher will still be on the board at 11.

I’m pretty sure that with Ottawa and Buffalo both winning tonight that means that the absolute worse we can place is 11th. That means that no matter what we will have at least a chance at winning the Bedard sweepstakes! ”So you’re telling me there’s a chance!” Lol

I’ve kept all my comments regarding Bo classy, because he was always so classy as a Canuck. However there’s no way around it, that was a classless comment he made. Nonetheless it was entertaining and honest, and much better than the cut and dry BS the players normally say, “we’re firing on all cylinders… we need to put together a 60 minute effort… blah blah blah,” lol. But now that Bo threw his classiness out the window so will I. He was punching way above his weight this season and everything was going right for him (which many of us were well aware of). It was only a matter of time until his stats came back to earth by his standards and that’s exactly what happened once he joined the Islanders. Peace out Bo. He has a career average of 0.67 ppg. This year with the canucks was a straight up anomaly with him suddenly putting up 1.10 ppg. And then since joining NYI he’s back down to his standard 0.54 ppg.

Yeah this draft is loaded with high end talent. Of course I have my preferences, nonetheless I’d be happy with any player on that list (although I’m not as high on Ritchie for a 8th - 10th overall pick as you though). Dvorsky and Sale are both extremely intriguing as well.

Solid list. I really like Moore as well, and Barlow too. This draft class really does look stacked.

[Signing] Canucks sign Nikita Tolopilo
YearoftheNuck replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wow, the kid is massive and has excellent numbers! Sure it’s a second division, but at least he’s playing against men, as well as professionals. I like this signing. -
This is a solid list. I’ve got one on my notes app on my phone that I’m regularly tweaking, and my current top ten list is actually almost identical to yours lol! The only difference is that I have Barlow in the 10 spot. I would not be upset if we drafted Danielson though.

The NEW core for the Vancouver Canucks has been revealed

If/when Petey gets the C, I wonder if the edit that poster and swap out the A for the C? -
Ditto… this will be the Year of the Nuck lol

I am absolutely loving Reinbacher’s game! This kid is so impressive, especially against full grown professionals. The way he took a few steps into that one timer was unreal! If we pick in the 8-10 range, I’m thinking that there’s a good chance he’ll be gone. What that will do for us though is possibly bump one of the many highly touted forwards down to us (maybe even a guy like Smith or Benson if we’re picking 8th). However if he is there when we’re picking, then I would love it if we took him. I don’t think he’s 4-5 years away from making the big club, which is the usual growth curve of a denfenseman. The reason being is that he’s already larger and stronger than many current NHL players, and because he’s already excelling in respectable pro league against men, and most importantly is because he’s just very talented.

This is a fantastic post! Thank you so much for taking the time to do a breakdown of the numbers like that. At this point, with Demko, Pettersson, Hughes, Kuzmenko and Miller playing lights hockey, I’ll be happy if we just don’t climber higher than 9th spot.

If this is the case, then we’ve basically won the lottery. By many accounts, if it wasn’t for the the Russian factor, Michkov would be a lock at #2. I haven’t seen enough of him to form a strong opinion either way, but with so many experts touting his next level skill, I’d be very excited if we somehow landed him.

Yeah there really seems to be. There’s a ton of variance, with some experts ranking Dvorsky at 3, whereas another has him at 19. And some are very high on Sale, placing him in the 4 spot, and another has him at 17. There’s a lot of instances of this too. With so many good players, and undoubtedly some busts sprinkled in amongst the gems, we’re really going to need our scouts to bring their A game with this pick. -

So true. And that fear lingers in the back of my mind too. However this year was a gong show in so many ways, namely riding Martin and Delia, neither of which are NHL goalies IMO, and I just don’t see next year playing out the same way. The main thing is that up until the arrival of two legendary defensemen on our coaching stuff, our team was playing horrendous defence. We still have lapses of course, but I really think Gonchar and Foote have worked wonders in fixing our D. -

Totally. When we were in sixth place, our odds of winning the lottery were only 7.5%. If we end up finishing in ninth place then our odds are 5%. That’s really not all that much of a difference. PS I think we will likely be in 9th place, because even if we continue to play well I don’t see us passing the Red Wings or Capitals. -

Absolutely! I think Moore would be a great 2C playing behind Petey. The first half of round one is absolutely stacked! That’s why I’m really not all that concerned with Canucks playing well, because even if we end up picking 11th for example, chances are very good that at least a few of the handful of players that I’m personally very excited about will be available… Moore, Reinbacher, Dvorsky, Barlow, Leonard, etc. -
I would be absolutely stoked with Dvorsky, Reinbacher or Barlow. This is why I’m not sweating it too much with the Canucks playing well right now (aside from lower our lottery odds, but really if we fall from 6th spot to 9th, our odds only change from 7.5% to 5%). Of course Bedard would be the greatest thing ever to happen to the Canucks, but it’s just such a long shot regardless of where we would be realistically picking even without playing this good. As long as we’re picking in the top ten I really see us being able to nab a very solid player. PS I wouldn’t lose any sleep if we picked Sale, Leonard, Yager (or Moore, or ASP).

If Hronek could surpass so those three (which I do believe he very well could) that will be great news for our franchise. Having Hronek and Hughes on the back end might just be a thing of pure beauty. To your question though, all three of those guys were great in their own rights. Juice was my all time favourite, but I think the best overall was Salo, if only his bones weren’t so brittle. His bomb from the point was lights out and he was solid on the defensive side of the game as well.
-
Wow, this guy is silky smooth. Good speed, soft hands, great passes, and excellent vision. He could definitely be a dark horse. To make the team next year. I wonder if his play has factored into the Canucks not offering Bear an extension yet? That and hopefully a verbal agreement in place to sign Jake Livingstone once he becomes available.
-
Absolutely, this draft is stacked all the way to about the 15-20th picks. I could see a guy like Cristall falling into someone’s lap the way that Cole Caufield did back in 2019. Obviously he’s not as small as Caufield and I highly doubt he drops to 15, but if his name is on the board when we’re pick at let’s say 10th, then we have to take a hard look at him.
-
I’ve been very high on Reinbacher for the past few months, and if we’re picking in the 8-10 range I’d love it if we take him. Having said that, if Jake Livingstone (such a rad name BTW) does happen to sign with us soon here then I would rather us target a centerman to play behind Petey, and there’s a good chance one of Dvorsky, Smith or Moore will be there. With Hronek, who just turned 25 in November, and hopefully Livingstone, who is 23, our right side could be set for years to come, which is not something we’ve had the luxury since the good old days of Bieksa and Salo, followed by Bieksa and Tanev. We were so spoiled for that stretch that many of us might’ve forgotten how hard it is to get a few good RHD.
