  1. Just Dick Van Dyke, Mel Brooks and Betty White left in the Nonagenarian Comedy Legends Club now (let me know if I left anyone out).
  2. The media definitely isn't making it sound like Vancouver is still in the running. But the US just had their highest number of new COVID cases diagnosed in a single day today and that number is only going to keep climbing into the forseeable future. If the NHL should somehow come to their senses and realize that the only way to guarantee their games will go on uninterrupted is if the don't play any in the US, and that the best way to guarantee this would be to play in the safest city in North America, then we would still be in the running. Heck, if the NHL execs were using any common sense at all, they would have all 24 NHL teams playing in BC!
  3. Playing dirty -- using physical intimidation -- wasn't really a big part of European hockey until they learned it from Canadians, I'd have to say. No matter how much we disliked the "Commies", we have to admit that we were the kings of physical hockey in the '70's. The Soviets had nothing that came close to the Broad Street Bullies or the Big Bad Bruins at the time.
  4. Considering that Jake is just finally showing some indications that he might justify Benning drafting him #6 overall, I have some doubts that Benning will be looking to trade him in the near future. If one of our top young wingers ends up going for a top young D, my bet would be on Boeser.
  5. And this could be why, at least in part, that the Canucks went against everyone's expectations and didn't reunite Toffoli with Pearson. That would have made Horvat his centre and probably made him much less excited about his future if he did resign with this team.
  6. So do you think the playoffs would go through the summer and end in late August every year? I can't see the league going for that and the only way around it would be to shorten the season and/or the playoffs, which I can't see the league going for either.
  7. If it means we get to keep Toffoli (and Jake) long-term, I'd definitely trade Pearson. Toffoli might not be too happy about losing Pearson though.
  8. You might be right re: Mac. But i have to say, in his last game or two, he looked damn effective out there! He was overpowering opponents with his size and sheer will, and contributing on the score sheet as well. Although Loui might be better defensively, Mac made a bigger impact in is last few games than I remember Loui ever making with this team (with the possible exception of scoring into his own net in his very first game).
  9. I'd like to know what happened with Teves too. He was looking so good early in the season, almost on par with Rafferty, then seemed to drop off the Utica radar completely part way through the season.
  10. Anyone who thinks a Sutter would be sat out in the playoffs doesn't know who the Sutters are and doesn't understand the difference between the regular season and the playoffs.
  11. Experience always trumps inexperience come playoff time. I see Sutter, Beagle and Leivo all getting into the lineup ahead of Gaudette. He and MacEwen will be the top forward subs. And Motte will be ahead of them if Ferland is ready to get in there and take his place.
  12. Yes. He came back and got 1 game in, just before they shut 'er down. It seems to me that it may have been the same situation with Motte as well.
  13. Despite their dire need for centres at times, Cull rarely played MacEwen at centre. I don't think the Canucks saw him as having good potential as a centre in the NHL, so they settled on grooming him as a winger.
  14. He might be. But I just can't put much hope in that lasting for long, given how it's worked out the last few times he's been cleared. Especially not when you consider how the physical intensity gets dialed-up at playoff time.
  15. I'd also have to say that I would sub in Kesler for Ronning as the 4th line centre. Pretty similar skill level, but Kesler's bigger and would have the Flyers chasing him all night. I would suggest Cooke or Burrows for much the same reason...but they'd just get killed!
  16. Then I assume hair-pulling will be allowed again? If we're going by '70's rules, you can't have a good fight without grabbing a big handful of your opponent's hair and yanking back his head!
  17. Or we could hold onto him and let him help us make a serious drive for that Cup that we've never obtained, rather than trade him for picks and continually remain in rebuilding mode.
  18. Yes, somehow I just don't see Benning walking away from Tryamkin and letting him sign with one of our competitors on a whim. I think that what may have been misunderstood is the fact Benning, very understandably, isn't going to offer Tryamkin a contract until both the salary cap and the Canucks' contract situation for next season is more clear.
  19. If Green is looking for more of an 'energy' 4th line, I'd agree with you. But if he's looking to move up to more of a skilled 4th line, I think he puts Leivo there. In reality though, there will likely always be enough injuries to mean that Leivo, Motte and Mac will all have a spot in the lineup (except when they're the ones injured).
  20. If all forwards are healthy, I'm pretty sure Green would give Leivo one of the last spots in the bottom 6, leaving Motte and MacEwen as the spare forwards (and Eriksson, hopefully, gone).
  21. I think a lot depends on Ferland's health, and the health of our forwards in general.
  22. Me too, but I just don't think there's going to be any room for him Joe. I think they'll be using some slightly more skilled fourth-liners in his place starting next season.
  23. Yes. BC couldn't compete with Ontario or Quebec most likely, but it would still be interesting to see how we would stack up against teams from Alta, Sask, Manitoba. Not just players who played for the Canucks, but their all-time Provincial teams vs. ours.
