  1. Yes, Placeholder. He never seems to get enough credit for holding place as well as he did!
  2. But he's still not going to be a 2 way player on the wing. And he's definitely not going to bring any sandpaper to the bottom six, if he played there, which is pretty much a prerequisite on a Green team. Therefore, I'm sure he's never going to play for Green again.
  3. That's great! Would be interesting to see an all-time team for every province as well. Got any time to work on that?
  4. Did I miss Game #2 of this series, or does the tape no longer exist? If I recall correctly, wasn't it a fairly close contest?
  5. All I can say is that it isn't someone who ever played a regular season game for the Canucks (i.e., he's not one of the two all-time #55's listed in the Canucks' media guide). That means he's very obscure and going to be challenging to identify! However....I do have 2 training camp guides from years when the Canucks wore those uniforms, and the '92 guide has Brian Loney listed at #55 and the '95 guide has Sandy Moger. Someone with better facial memory than me will have to decide if it's either one of those two! Edit: Now having looked at Hockey DB, my best guess would be Sandy Moger.
  6. Just 1:03 into the game, the WOR graphic reads: "Voice of Jim Robson" . That one had me seriously questioning my own ears, but it's definitely not Jim Robson on WOR. Very odd!
  7. I voted Esposito, but had no idea that 'French Connection' Rene Robert was a pre-NHL Canuck! He is so much younger than the others. How was this possible?? Do tell Biestra, do tell!
  8. I voted for Mike Rogers over Gilbert Perreault because, unlike Perreault, Mike Rogers (the 3x 100 point scorer) was actually Canucks property, but the Canucks decided they didn't want him! Here's the story: Back in 1979, when the WHA folded and 4 ex-WHA teams joined the NHL (Edmonton, Winnipeg, Quebec & Hartford), the pre-existing NHL teams had the option to take back any players whom they had drafted who had instead opted to sign in the WHA (typically, for more $). The Canucks had drafted Rogers in the 5th round in 1974. But they had also recently brought in Rogers' ex-WHA coach, Harry Neale, as their own head coach, so then-GM Jake Milford asked Neale if he thought the high-scoring Rogers could have similar success in the NHL. Rogers stood 5'9" and the thinking in the NHL at the time (when the Broad Street Bullies still wreaked havoc) was that 'soft', skilled player of that size could not succeed in the NHL. So Neale said 'no' and the Canucks passed on Rogers, who instead stayed with the Hartford Whalers and went on to have three 100 point seasons with the Whalers and, subsequently, the Rangers. As an aside, Neale instead recommended that Milford take back John Hughes, a tough defenceman whom the Canucks had drafted in the 3rd round in '74 (who then opted to sign with the WHA Phoenix Roadrunners). Hughes went on to finish second only to Harold Snepsts with 181 pims on the Canucks in 1979-80, but was cut loose after just one season to sign with the Oilers for one last, short-lived kick at the NHL can.
  9. I voted for Odjick because he was the best crazy-scary, psycho-killer type of fighter the Canucks ever had. A true legend in that regard. But as for best technical fighters, my first choice would have been Rypien hands down, followed fairly closely by Brashear. It's also too bad that not enough posters on this board are old enough to remember Randy Holt, who was actually pretty similar to Odjick in his legendary fighting status. He just didn't stay with the Canucks long enough, nor have enough fights posted on hockeyfights.com, for people to appreciate his fighting legacy.
  10. This post just needs a little tweak: "We could easily wish to trade Myers and bring Tryamkin as a replacement." There. How's that sound now?
  11. GAA is simply a statistical prediction of how many goals a goalie would be expected to let in in each game he plays. If he only plays a few minutes and lets in essentially anything more than 1 goal, his GAA is going to look really bad, just like Thiessen's.
  12. Guys like Herter, Polasek and Holden ended up being busts as 1st rounders, but they were at least rated to go in the first round. Patrick White, he's a whole other story. Gillis went 'off the board' to draft him, and there turned out to be very good reason he was never on the the board!
  13. My guess is that Benning sees him as a Motte replacement then. He's most certainly not as physical as Motte, but started off his first two years of NCAA scoring at a much better rate that Motte. Motte finally caught and surpassed Michaelis in scoring by his third and final NCAA year, but this might have been due to being on a stronger team. Looks like a 4th line upgrade to me.
  14. I voted for Patrick White, possibly our biggest 1st round bust of all time (but Mike Gillis does get big kudos for somehow turning him into Christian Erhoff), and nominate Lars Zetterstrom, the largely unknown and much less successful half of the great "Lars & Lars" signing of the late '70s.
  15. Yes, he has. But the same people who don't want us to know that Kim Jong-un has died or that Covid 19 is hoax are trying to keep us from knowing this too!!
  16. Nominating Volpatti (BTW, this is getting silly).
  17. The problems are, firstly, that half of the players you listed as playing centre in Utica had to be converted from the wing, because we don't have enough natural centres. Secondly, how can you assume two borderline hopeful prospects like Karlsson and Focht are going to step in and become AHL regulars and give us a "glut" of centres? Even Lind and Gadjovich, two highly-touted 2nd round picks, didn't play as regulars their first year, and Gadjovich still hasn't made it there yet. Unfortunately, that's more the norm than the exception for players drafted outside the first round.
  18. Not sure which of this lot to vote for yet, but nominating Gary Smith.
  19. Interesting to know if this is in Van or Utica?
  20. Voting Kurtenbach and nominating Gary Smith, again. I realize most other CDCers have to idea who Smith was, but here's an excerpt from an old article I found on him. Read this and tell me, what other ex-Canuck that you may be thinking of voting for at this point ever came close to finishing 5th in Hart Trophy balloting any year?: "His first season in Vancouver he played 65 contests, winning 20 of the Canucks 24 wins that season. The following season was easily Smith's best, as he and the Canucks had their first winning season and were for the first time a legitimate NHL team. The team had 38 wins to capture their first Smythe Division championship, and Smith was the key. He played in 72 of the 80 games, with a record of 32-24-9. His 6 shutouts that season is still a team record. He finished 5th in Hart Trophy balloting that season.Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Robson still thinks Smith perhaps should have won the Hart that year." 21. Looking at age and injury history, if Benning resigns Tanev over Toffoli, I think he'll regret it.
  22. I dk. I think in the cap era, any team that wants to stay competitive over the long run has to look ahead and see how much they'll need to be paying their top young players, then make some hard decisions on cutting loose (or trading) veteran UFA's. Stetcher is definitely one of these players, and as much as I'd like to keep Tanev, I think that he likely has to be one of players too. If it comes down to a choice between resigning Tanev or Toffoli, I'd definitely choose Tofolli.
